Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever , in Gen Z can’t work alongside people with different views because they ‘haven’t got the skills to disagree’ says British TV boss

If you remove the gen z distinction: yeah. People have lost the ability to acknowledge there are other world views than their own.

Sometimes it is a good thing. “Agree to disagree” on a person’s fundamental right to existence is one of the may things that has made the world so fucked up.

But also? People in general spend so much time surrounded by The Algorithm and having every aspect of their media and news consumption catered to them that it makes a massive disconnect. When youtube or even lemmy/reddit always shows you what you want to hear, someone doing the opposite is not only a personal insult: it is an attack on your very reality.

And while it likely impacts gen z and younger millenials more: one of my co-workers is a boomer ass boomer who was mostly hired as a favor to an influential person at one of the companies we are trying to get as a client. And it feels like every other sentence out of his mouth is “you are being intentionally obtuse” because he cannot fathom a world where he is not right and an expert in everything he thinks about.

And you can see it in most threads where people have an actual discussion. People LOVE to say “I think you are being disingenuous” or “you are being argumentative” because it is easier to call someone else a liar than it is to realize they came to a different conclusion.

Yeah I agree and think dismissal of perspectives and even dehumanization of people you disagree with is definitely a big problem right now.

There are even folks that do this and try to prop themselves up as “intellectuals” by citing various “fallacies” – like the straw man fallacy – without knowing what they’re talking about. I’ve only bumped into it a couple of times but it’s annoying when it happens.

You don’t have to agree with a perspective but to refuse to humor a perspective… to even try and understand where that person is at so there’s any hope of building a bridge… that’s deeply problematic.

Because authority figures seem to be really lenient to right wingers for some odd reason…

Those who work forces, are the same who burn crosses

    xuxebiko ,

The reason is politics. Right-wing polarizers are used by their opponents to scare voters into voting for non-right wingers. A sort of "Who will you vote for? Us who you sometimes dislike or for them who you always fear?"

Plus if they're arrested they'll not only become martyrs for the cause, it'll also create an opportunity for yet another right-wing leader to emerge.

    Kichae ,

Yeah, it wasn't politics that had the cops hugging the Border Blockaders, or carrying food and water for the Ottawa Occupiers.

Politics kept Trudeau from calling a state of emergency earlier. It was soemthing else entirely that had cops singing kumbaya with people calling for the Prime Minister's death.

Though Didulo did not initially explain the basis for her claim to be the Monarch of Canada, she later clarified that she had been “appointed” to that position by an American named David J. Carlson, purportedly the “Commander-In-Chief” and “King” of the United States.

    Rambi ,

I know this was a few days ago but this argument from a leftist pro-gun point of view is so stupid to me. If you’re concerned about fascists, why do you support arming them lol?? It’s just the easily rebuked good guy with a gun bad guy with a gun argument repackaged to appeal to left wing people. Muricans going Murican

    DragonTypeWyvern ,

They’re already armed. Besides immediately triggering a civil war that push a whole bunch of “independents” to the wrong side, all it will do is disarm the sane.

    Rambi ,

Lol this is such a stupid problem for your country to have. In the late 90s after having a school shooting here laws were introduced and people had to trade in their guns and were reimbursed. Since then we have had 3 mass shootings, all of which only had a few deaths each, with a murder rate of 9 per million per year. (About 5 times less than the USA based on a quick search.)

I have a friend from Texas and I found it quite funny that he seemed to feel bad for me that everyone here isn’t armed. He’s a good guy but he seems legitimately unaware that the laws on guns are never discussed because everybody of all political persuasions is happy with them, and see the situation in the US as an extremely easily remedied sick joke.

    Harrison ,

That’s 4x higher than car related deaths per number of car owners, and cars require a license and insurance, and doing something dangerous with one can have you lose your right to use it permanently.

Cars have the additional factor that they are practically required for living in the US, so reasonably we would be willing to accept a higher number of deaths than we would otherwise for other objects.

    DragonTypeWyvern ,

I agree, let’s do gun licenses.

    JustZ ,

    xkforce , (edited )

Blaming a group that is many many times more likely to kill those around them and habitually defends their hobby with gems like “What if we need to overthrow our democratically elected government?”, “There is no amount of people that die due to guns that would convince me gun ownership isn’t worth the cost” and some lame analogy equating guns with penises and gun homicide with rape as if that didn’t write the jokes about gun owners itself. (If you’re a little slow, it means a lot of you just came out and said the quiet part out loud. Some of you really do use guns to compensate for… shortcommings)

And the fact that further down, you’re arguing that “only 42,000 die a year” and that most of them are suicides (as if those deaths matter less for some reason) just proves my point. Could many of you handle guns responsibly? Sure. But I dont think that tens of thousands dead a year is worth waiting to find out which ones.

I drove through a tiny rural town, population 4300, in my province earlier this summer, which barely has enough people living there to support running a donut shop, let alone any sort of drag venue, and some idiot had signs at the end of his driveway saying “No more kids at drag shows!”. I mean, it’s literally the asshole of northern Ontario, a drag queen has never had a reason to go anywhere near there, he’s obviously never left the town in his life, let alone seen a drag queen in person, and yet he paid to put up signs on his driveway people will mostly ignore about a subject that has nothing to do with him. I just listened to the Darknet Diaries episodes (86/87/88) about the guy who “hacked” Trump’s Twitter, actually he was a white hat who figured out that Trump’s password in 2016 was “yourefired” because he used the same password on LinkedIn which got hacked.

And then he tried again in 2020 and Trump did not have 2-factor authentication on even though Twitter was trying to push it for political accounts, and his password was “MAGA2020!” which was near identical to the password for wifi at Trump rallies.

It was so easy that I basically guarantee other countries (and probably our own also) got in and read the messages, which brings up the intriguing possibility that they’re not looking for what he has retained in there, but what he deleted. Deleting incriminating evidence is essentially admitting guilt, not to mention obviously obstruction of justice.

Even if they could get in with little effort for them to be able to use the evidence in court it would have to be legally obtained. This isn’t intelligence gathering on a foreign adversary. The sad thing is, my brother has a name like “Benjamin”. My mother is a very mentally ill individual and is extremely militant about her children’s names “I chose your names and you will go by exactly what I named you!” and refused to let him go by “Ben” or let us call him “Ben”. Except, outside of the house he always went by Ben, she just didn’t know it. I always called him Ben when we weren’t home, because it’s what he wanted to be called.
