In a now-deleted Reddit post, one victim described how a “neo-nazi gang” with “their shirts off with swastika and other nazi symbols” held their friends underwater. One victim suffered a concussion, facial swelling, and a bruised retina resulting in partial vision loss, while another received a bruised eye, according to interviews with the victims. At least two sought medical attention after the attack.
The Observer acquired footage of the attack recorded by an eyewitness and verified the Reddit post’s claims with the victims. Video appears to show individuals who were part of the group that included the ABT members or supporters instigating the fight, which lasted approximately two minutes and took place in a part of the San Marcos River that is only a few feet deep. In the footage, apparent perpetrators seem to submerge two of the victims underwater.
Kelly Ghaisar said of the officers’ suit, “I find this filing appalling.” She said the officers “not only were not prosecuted but rewarded with years of paid vacation while Bijan was shot in the head for a fender bender,” and “the fact that Amaya and Vinyard are with their families, with full pay and benefits, and not in jail is a middle finger to justice.”
He’ll likely spend the rest of his life at Guantanamo now as a result of this plea. There’s apparently a law on the books now that makes it illegal to transfer Guantanamo prisoners to US prisons.

I like how the AP story says he’s “accused” and “has agreed to plea”. Pretty passive wording instead of “person who committed”, etc. I don’t think they fully believe it either.
That's how journalism is supposed to work. Being loosey-goosey with any definitive statements is how you end up with situations like people questioning whether or not JD Vance definitely absolutely 100% had sex with a couch.
It’s standard journalistic practice to refer to say that someone is accused or alleged to have committed crimes until they’re convicted. Even in obvious cases, such as mass shootings where the shooter is on video.
Don’t move skid row some place else. Shrink skid row by placing money into affordable housing. The next leader of California needs to be taking action on housing every day.
If a construction worker started cutting beams and caused the building to collapse that wouldn’t be “not doing their job”, that would be active and malicious sabotage. This isn’t even remotely an apology, it makes it sound like they just ignored a call for help, not actively created a situation that no one asked for.
