let’s hope this is the beginning of a trend. like when all our favorite celebrities started dying. but this time it’s fun.

Yes they guy did say the car was nice. But his name is not Jack!

ToucheGoodSir , in Lawyers for megachurch pastor blame 12-year-old for ‘initiating’ sexual contact

Reminds me of that story of a father that murdered his daughters rapist in a small town and the whole town was like “I DIDN’T SEE NUFFIN” and I believe the father did not end up going to prison for it. Is a BIG, fuck around find out situation for pieces of human garbage like this. Don’t think these boomer pedos/other idiots realize what quantum computing and all of the data centers across the world storing citizens data for decades means for THEM… Just requires some inspired algorithms and a police force that is willing to uh, NOT protect the baddies and do their jobs as detectives vs arresting brown people for drugz :|

assassin_aragorn ,

A conviction requires a jury of your peers to deem you guilty – if your peers don’t think you’ve broken the law by killing a child rapist, then you aren’t guilty.

ToucheGoodSir ,

I didn’t read the details too much. Having things happen in a court of law is important, however, if you look at say… a country like Ukraine. Their form of democracy is a bit different in this regard. Which has its ups and downs, as most societal structures do. For example, the Scandinavian model is one that is dependent on a homogeneous population. The ancient Greeks in Athens discussed this. Here is the relevant link:

jpreston2005 , in Justice Sotomayor’s Bodyguard Shoots Suspected Carjacker Outside Her Home

The random shout out to Nicholas Roske at the end of the article reminded me of his story. I sympathize with him. I guess that’s the reason there are political assassinations of progressive heroes like MLK and JFK, but there aren’t any of regressive cunts like kavenaugh. It’s because progressives have a conscious.

MehBlah , in Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma dies at 89

That is the problem with the impending disaster. All the people who could do something about it wont be here when it arrives. Its not like they care about their children. I’ve discovered to care about your childrens fate is a rare thing in people 60 and above. Most of them had it too easy. Being born and raised in a golden age.

RagingHungryPanda , in Lawyers for megachurch pastor blame 12-year-old for ‘initiating’ sexual contact

In case anyone is not sure, this behavior is completely normal in the Christian circles. The number of times I heard people, preachers, or whoever blame the victim for causing the man of god to stumble is far more than you would want to know, and was every time.

One thing to understand about many Christian groups is that they elevate their preachers to a very high standing and believe that they are “so close to the Lord” that they just don’t do bad things. So, in order to preserve this cognitive dissonance, it’s the child that tempted them to sin.

Atheists are extremely vocal.

we still live in a world where religion spoils secular life, so we’re apparently not vocal enough.

FlyingSquid , in Hamas is losing the backing of ordinary people in Gaza who are paying the human price of its war
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

This story keeps getting reported every few days and I’m really starting to question it. Even if it’s generally true, the fact that it keeps popping up as a story is really suspicious.

fukhueson OP , (edited )

I did a search for it and couldn’t find it posted. My apologies if this has already been posted here, I do make efforts to ensure I’m not doubling up on articles. If I missed it that’s my fault.

Considering the article was written on the 6th, I find it hard to believe there’s is a suspicious pattern of it popping up every few days.

A manual scan of the news community indicates this article has not been posted since the 6th. Nor another story like it.

EmpathicVagrant ,

I took that to mean it’s been released multiple times as a statement, not that you were sharing a duplicate.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Correct.

fukhueson OP , (edited )

Understood, I wasn’t seeing articles discussing this angle either. Not that I’m challenging the perspective outright, I myself just haven’t seen that to be the case. I haven’t been as attentive to news recently too, so I very well could be wrong.

Edit: no bad blood here, I’m not taking anything as an accusation, don’t want this misinterpreted.

Kalkaline ,
@Kalkaline@leminal.space avatar

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Sorry, it’s not about you. The story just keeps popping up from different outlets. I apologize, I didn’t mean to suggest you personally had an ulterior motive, just that this is starting to sound like propaganda the media is falling for.

fukhueson OP ,

Please see my reply to another user for clarification. I don’t know that simply because outlets are carrying the same message that it’s propaganda, it could be that it’s just information worth reporting on. But again I haven’t been as deep into news as of recently. This doesn’t strike me as propaganda personally (a larger comparison, for example, Sinclair outlets repeating the same script).

Edit: and no apology necessary, I wasn’t taking your comment so harshly, all good :)

Corvidae , in Dozens killed in Gaza as Israel strikes fourth school in four days

Hamas has denied Israeli claims that it uses schools, hospitals and other civilian facilities for military aims.

We’ve seen recent video footage of Hamas tunnels accessed via hospitals, and reports about Hamas using hospitals, schools, and mosques to hide weapons goes back decades.

bamboo ,

What video footage? I’ve never heard of this. The claims going back decades have been exclusively from the IDF and have never been able to be independently verified, in other words they’re bullshit.

Corvidae ,

They may be bullshit, but they’re very easy to find with a search engine.

nbcnews.com/…/israel-video-hamas-hostages-al-shif…

Pretty sure this video has snippets from the one I saw a few weeks or months ago:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJxejSK03Ik&rco=1

bamboo ,

I’m not sure “easy to find with a search engine” is a good proxy for truthfulness. The NBC article is entirely based on what the IDF says, and NBC says they could not verify the claims. There isn’t any evidence that prisoners were in the hospital for military purposes, it seems entirely reasonable they were taken there to be treated, Hamas has every incentive to keep the prisoners in good health. Israel on the other hand has systematically destroyed all healthcare infrastructure in Gaza and has tried to make up any possible justifications for their crimes against humanity. Giving them any charity or credibility here is just foolishness.

Corvidae ,

It is said that the first casualty of war is the truth. I do not think it is reasonable to believe anyone is telling the whole truth. This war seems to be driven by deep hatred on both sides. All those of us who are in our cubicles thousands of miles away (like myself) can do is to get a variety of news items from a variety of sources and attempt to discern the truth, and be willing to accept that we may not find it.

bamboo ,

I don’t advocate taking any belligerent’s word at face value. But, considering their independently verified actions and stated motives (particularly those most unsavory), it’s usually pretty easy to understand what’s going on. Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people, whose land they are intent on stealing. We know this because they’ve said so and their actions all point in that direction.

jaemo , in Lawyers for megachurch pastor blame 12-year-old for ‘initiating’ sexual contact

My word, but Christians are truly among the very worst examples of humanity. No wonder churchgoing is plummeting, even the lack of civility in modern society can’t pave over the abject awfulness of this cult.

Back to the stone age, where you belong, sky wizard cultists!

fukurthumz420 ,

keep it going until all the abrahamic religions are considered a cult by most of the sane world.

jpreston2005 , (edited ) in Urban heat island effect making temperatures 8F hotter in 65 US cities – study

Went to my pride festival last month. it was 98°F, but within the confines of the pride parade, nestled in the downtown district, surrounded by concrete, it felt like 110°F. The only thing I could accomplish was walking while fanning myself with occasional breaks in the shade. It was so bad, I couldn’t even pause to look at the vendors wares that were set up in unobstructed daylight. It was just too hot to stand and look at anything, I just walked right on by. There was a YMCA building that people would go in, just to stand in the air conditioned lobby for a moment. The doors opened as I walked by and I could feel the glorious chill air rush past me. I would have gone in, but I observed that there were elderly, frail people taking respite from the heat inside, and it didn’t feel right that I (as a young healthy man) should join them.

Basically, it was so hot that the only thing I could really do, is patiently wait until I hit my limit, and then gtfo. I don’t think I’ll ever want to live in a city again after experiencing this kind of heat.

FireRetardant ,

Everyone can be impacted by heat. Take those breaks in the cold air if you need them. In my experience elderly people often have some interesting things to say and I’m sure most of them wouldn’t have even noticed you joining them.

Yes, and it was nearly 20 years ago, and they’ve only shored up their hold on power since. However, their popularity waxes and wanes with their fortunes; they unambiguously have significant grassroots support, unfortunately.
