azimir , in Black women say an Amtrak project threatens their Baltimore neighborhood’s homes — and children

It’s a tunnel with electric trains. I volunteer my pasty white ass’s house as tribute for this. My city has near zero rail service and I’ll take it in a heartbeat.

Yes, the US has been using infrastructure to harm minority communities for generations, but so far this doesn’t seem to be the most egregious example of that. The exhaust system being next to a school is the only concern, but only if there’s a fire in the tunnel (which should be rare unless Boeing starts making trains).

Either move the exhaust or move the school while you start digging that new higher speed tunnel! Let’s go for some real modern transit!

danc4498 , in Trump expressed concern that returning classified docs after subpoena could result in criminal charges, according to sealed notes - ABC News

Can anybody with actual knowledge of law explain why the prosecutors should be allowed to use Trump’s lawyer’s notes against Trump in this case? Seems like it would make sense that it isn’t allowed.

The problem with capitalism, is eventually you run out of other people’s labor

RememberTheApollo_ ,

You run out of other people’s money. You can squeeze labor to starvation working in a salt mine. However, if most all people lose all their money, capitalism is done, and currently runaway capitalism is doing everything it can to increase that disparity.

gerbler ,

This person was referencing the obtuse and infuriatingly repeated quote from Margaret Thatcher (rot in piss) “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money”.

I don’t think I need to point out exactly why this quote is stupid.

RememberTheApollo_ ,

I had no idea she said that. No, I’m not a Thatcher fan.

I reckon it’s the Taliban version of “I smelled weed in your car.” Just a pretense to being a dickhead.

Dankob , in Afghan girls accuse Taliban of sexual assault after arrests for ‘bad hijab’

So sad how leaders in asian countries limit women and that many Muslims accept it… my colleague is a Muslim, says she doesn’t want to wear hijab but her young daughter wears cuz she wants to without being forced by their parents. Just sad. Nobody should be able to put such great limitations on other people.

Or that whole Sleepy Biden bullshit, as Trump napped during his fucking trials.

orbitz ,

From the guy that also had ‘executive time’ blocked off many (most? All?) mornings of his presidency, he only wanted to be in front of the cameras. Trump has never worked for what would amount to a full time day in his life I bet.

Amazes me that a grifter who I doubt anyone would truly trust to babysit or even be a manager at a fast food joint gets so much support and offered access to some of the world’s most secret Intel.

^ disinformation.

The way this post is written is a lie.

Journalists aren’t moonlighting as terrorist, what Israel actually said in the article was that they don’t care if you are a journalist or a terrorist, even telling Hamas’s story makes you a valid target for state-sponsored murder.

This opinion conflicts with international law and makes Israel the one worthy of scrutiny.

Asked about the al-Aqsa network casualties, a senior IDF spokesperson told reporters in the Gaza project consortium that there was “no difference” between working for the media outlet and belonging to Hamas’s armed wing, a sweeping statement legal experts described as alarming.

“It’s a shocking statement,” Adil Haque, a law professor at Rutgers University in the US said, describing the position as showing “a complete misunderstanding or just a wilful disregard for international law”. ‘Reporting is not direct participation in hostilities’

Almost as soon as Israel began its aerial bombardment of Gaza in response to Hamas’s assault on southern Israel in which 1,200 people were killed and about 250 taken hostage, the al-Aqsa headquarters were evacuated as executives believed the IDF would target the organisation, two sources said.

Please stop lying.

Under the laws of war, a journalist can lose their civilian status if they engage in planning, preparing or carrying out combat operations. Simply working for an organisation such as al-Aqsa does not make someone a legitimate target to be killed.

“Reporting the news is not direct participation in hostilities,” Janina Dill, a professor at the University of Oxford and expert in the laws of war, said. “Even if they reported the news in a biased way, even if they did propaganda for Hamas, even if Israel fundamentally disagrees with how they report the news. That is not enough.” Combatants and civilians

Multiple Israeli sources said there had been a permissive approach to targeting across the IDF in a war aimed at the “total destruction of Hamas”.

Israel is a pseudo-Nazi state carrying out a Holocaust.

IndustryStandard OP ,

Hamas runs the government in Gaza.

This encapsulates mostly non-military affairs. Like hospitals, schools and in this case a media outlet. Some journalists get paid by the government which is ran by Hamas.

This is akin to a NPR journalists being classified as a military target because they work for the American government. Or any public hospital staff that gets paid by the government being classified as a valid military target

Kaboom ,

Which is why I said Hamas soldier and not doctor or whatever.

IndustryStandard OP ,

They are not soldiers

Targeting state media because you’re at war with that country is bonkers. Imagine the outcry if Ukraine were assassinating TASS reporters on sight.

Pfeffy ,

And they aren’t even just murdering State actors. They are murdering journalists left and right from wherever. Just like aid workers and people trying to feed the Palestinians that they are starving to death on purpose.
