whocares314 , in Man guns down 3 women, including his mom, in separate shootings within 1 hour: Florida police - ABC News

All that conservatives will see is a violent black man. Gun control will continue to not be part of the solution. He was going to do it gun or no gun, if those women had their own guns they could have defended themselves, clearly it was a mental health issue….

And fox news will whip this into a racial frenzy in 3… 2… 1.

But seriously, this guy needed a lot of help. Apparently he was on his way to Georgia to kill another ex? I’m seriously wondering what might have driven him to commit these acts?

JimSamtanko ,

Not only that, but they’ll spin it into a need for even more guns- all without seeing the irony.

sevan , in It's wild how many job listings might be fake

I’ve definitely felt this. I have applied to quite a few roles that I am highly qualified for and get the “we selected someone else” email and then see the role posted again a few weeks later. I wouldn’t necessarily expect to get every job I apply for, but I would expect to get a screening interview for most of them.

IamSparticles ,

That’s not necessarily a fake posting. It may be that they offered the job to someone who took time to decide not to accept. Or accepted and then changed their mind when they got a better offer. Or used the offer as leverage to get a raise/promotion at their current job. Games get played on both sides. Hell, I once hired someone who just didn’t show up on their first day. Or the next three days. We tried to call and email. We didn’t hear anything until a week later when they claimed they were sick and couldn’t come in. No explanation for why they couldn’t call to let us know. That was the most immediate termination I’ve ever dealt with.

NeptuneOrbit ,

OK but why aren’t they contacting this person? If an offered is not accepted or whatever, HR should have some record of who the other top contenders would be.

But unless of course hiring isn’t a priority and then who knows. Which is the actual accusation.

IamSparticles , (edited )

If an offered is not accepted or whatever, HR should have some record of who the other top contenders would be.

It doesn’t work that way. We search until we find one person we want to hire and we offer that person the job. If they decline, it doesn’t mean we go down the list until someone accepts. Everyone else was rejected for one reason or another, so we continue our search. I’m not saying OP definitely did not run across some fake postings. It’s a possibility. But there’s also the possibility that they’re not as qualified as they think they are, or their resume doesn’t make it clear that they are. Or whoever is screening applicants is screwing up. Job searching is tricky, and so is candidate searching.

Feliskatos , in Gender non-conforming family called "Satanic" after being outed by school

I note the article doesn’t name the school. My thought process that led to this was on the first reading I noted it said it was a charter school. Charter schools were sold by our legislatures as being hybrid public-private schools that lacked religion.

I think this charter school is crossing some lines that were promised wouldn’t be crossed when charter schools were approved by legislatures. Those kids need to find a more accepting environment, they’re currently being harmed.

Liz ,

Whenever a group in power says “we promise we won’t do the bad thing” you can be rest assured, they will do the bad thing.

bitchkat ,

The article sounds like school was fine for the most part. It was other parents that were dicks. And the one faculty member that complained about being forced to use pronouns. Probably the same person who leaked info about the kids sex.

June, 2020 - We still didn’t know where our next roll of toilet paper was coming from.

Today ,

In December 2020, I found a giant case of toilet paper in an old school building that we used for storage at work. I hid it in a closet so I would have a secret stash. Every now and then I would go by to make sure it was still there. 2 months ago they cleaned out the building and changed the locks.

That idiotic panic is what finally pushed me over into getting a bidet attachment. Best decision of my adult life (I don’t make very good decisions).

ImADifferentBird ,
@ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I got really lucky, in that I had made a Costco run shortly before the shit hit the fan and didn’t have to worry about toilet paper while it was in short supply (not hoarding, I had just stocked up like I usually do). Actually ended up handing out a few rolls to friends and neighbors who were having a harder time than I was.

It probably helped that I got a bidet a few months in, and that cut my TP usage dramatically while making my butt also feel cleaner and less irritated.

I say, test both of them!

They should both be tested for drugs often, the working class is forced to undergo drug testing, why not the owner class as well, they are ‘civil servants’; by multiple people and organizations, that would be fun to see differences in reports and writeups, even more if data is shown on what chemicals are in their system.

The claims arrive as Trump himself changes his tune on how well Biden may perform at the CNN debate. Having previously called Biden the “worst debater I have ever faced,” Trump recently told the All-In Podcast that the president will be a “worthy debater” and that he does not want to “underestimate” Biden on Thursday.

“If President Biden needs to take performance enhancing drugs in order to participate in this week’s debate, then it is imperative that he and his physician disclose that to the American people,” Jackson said. “CNN’s people leaked debate questions to Hillary Clinton in 2016,” Grenell posted on X. Grenell was making reference to previous reports on how former chair of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile gave notice to Clinton’s team about a debate question ahead of her 2016 debate with Trump.

Responding to the incident, Leavitt told Newsweek: "CNN cutting off my microphone for bringing up a debate moderator’s history of anti-Trump lies just proves our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly in Thursday’s debate.

Rubber stamped? Biden gets trashed because he’s old, talks slow, has a stutter, and all they see are edited clips.

He has way more scrutiny than an average person. It’s so bad that Republicans are accusing him of using drugs because they heard him give a speech and literally couldn’t believe he could be coherent.

Cornpop , in Analysis: The fertility crisis is here and it will permanently alter the economy | CNN Business

Sounds awesome. Bring it on. Less people is better fuck the infinite growth economy

sushibowl ,

The problems listed in the article are real. we’ve built a system:

  1. Where a lot of economic growth stems from an increasing supply of (cheap) labour
  2. That relies on people of working age being able to financially support a retiree class.

Both of these are going to fall apart if the population stops growing. The smaller group of working age people won’t be enough to support the amount of retirees, and without population growth there’s no economic growth.

It’s sad that economists correctly see all this coming but then conclude that the only solution is “make more babies.” It’s short term thinking almost by definition, because in the limit it’s rather obvious that at some point we will not have the resources to support any more people. And the closer we get to that limit the less each individual person will have (even worse when wealth is not equally distributed).

Unfortunately I don’t see any economist putting forth a plan that accepts population decline and alters the system to account for it. It wouldn’t be easy but it seems no one is even trying.

Cosmicomical ,

How is it not easy? 90% of all jobs are automated or are going to be automated away in the next few years. I only see one social class that holds us back from de facto post-scarcity. We just need to get rid of it.

sushibowl ,

I commend your optimism, but personally I’m not sure automation is actually going to carry us through this in the time frames that we need. This population problem is going to hit really hard in the next twenty to thirty years. I don’t think we’re going to fully automate the world economy in that time.

Cosmicomical ,

2 thoughts:

  • the level of automation we have right now is enough to produce most of the stuff we need with very little assistance, as most of the useful stuff has been automated 30-40 years ago; while i agree that we are missing some important things, i think the real problem is the cleptocracy at the top
  • the stuff that is being automated now is really a problem more than a solution, and is going to stop progress by putting out of work software developers and other creative professions. I’m not saying it’s going to replace them all, but if it replaces enough job positions, it’s going to make the profession a risky choice for new students and that’s going to slow down the engine a lot
Asifall ,

Israeli warmongers like Netanyahu perverting what it means to “learn from history,” and dishonoring the struggles of those that came before them by taking on the methods of those that tried to snuff them out to snuff out a different people. (and it wasn’t just camps, they starved them in the ghettos they locked them in as well.)

The I’m sure intentional lack of self-awareness is darkly cartoonish.

And that should alarm everyone as they both are clearly put there as puppets to be controlled.
