The orphan-crushing machine is luckily just a metaphor for the way media tends present the stories in which a person remedies the effects of sociopolitical injustice as "heartwarming" without questioning why said injustice exists in the first place. The metaphor satirizes these stories by comparing them to a person raising money to keep 200 orphans from getting crushed while nobody questions why an orphan-crushing machine exists and runs in the first place.
The orphan-crushing machine can also be interpreted as a metaphor for late-stage capitalism, where useless products and infrastructure can be produced with the single purpose of further inflating business numbers and creating jobs.

Does that part make sense to anyone?
This strikes me less as fraud and more as a way to stay open to talent that you may not need immediately but still want to be able to add to your organization, in an era when basically nobody sends unsolicited resumes anymore. Like, maybe you don’t have a project in need of a Whatever Specialist right now, but it’s a field your company works in, and if a really exceptional Whatever Specialist is on the market, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to bring them on.
Debates dont matter and neither do you. Go get lost in the woods like when you did your walk of a shame after your 2nd failed attempt at becoming president.
Yeah except he is a person who hates losing and even when he does lose, he says he wins even when it’s obvious that he is a loser. The only reason he would ever say this shit is because he knows he is going to lose because he’s a massive fucking idiot and a child could beat him in a debate.
Those are talent captures. A lot of times managers have enough budget to barely hire someone but don’t really have the need to justify a guaranteed expenditure. They put out a job opening to see who applies. If a rockstar applies, they’ll hire them just to get them into the company. Good people will always find a spot. If a bunch of normal people, who might be just fine workers but aren’t standouts, apply then the fake job doesn’t get filled.
I’ve canceled very real job openings because the quality of people who applied didn’t really excite me and I didn’t really NEED someone. My team was chugging along and I had a little extra budget to help out, but my team continued just fine without hiring someone else. My budget got cut the next year by about what I would have spent on the new person, which would have made me get rid of a normal person while a rockstar would have been able to move somewhere else in the company.
That’s exponential growth, for yuh. Fossil fuels could decline significantly as a percentage of total, global energy consumption but we could still be emitting several tens of billions of tons of carbon dioxide every year, if global energy consumption continues to grow.
Here’s what I mean: between 2013 and 2023, global energy consumption increased 14%. As of 2023, fossil fuels accounted for 77% of global energy consumption. Now, let’s say that between 2024 and 2034 total global energy consumption increases another 14%, but over the same period the percentage of our total energy that comes from fossil fuels DECREASES from 77% to 65% (a fairly significant decrease, I think), the amount of energy that comes from fossil fuels would have only declined 3.2% between 2024 and 2034.

I’m not sure what the other commentors were hating on but I found this article to be a concise criticism of Drump’s “debating” style contrasting with an appreciation of Biden’s ability to actually debate. Drump wants to use these debates as an extension of his insane election rally’s and I , for one, don’t want anything to do with that.
Hillary Clinton is roughly the political equivalent of a grandparent who flunked out of high-school and never had a job giving the “firm handshake” advice about getting a job. It was cute in a naive sort of way the first couple times, now it just pisses you off.
That’s a really facile statement. Look, I’m no Hilary fan but you have to admit that she’s more than just some real estate loser wannabe (eg: Drump). This lady was Secretary of State under Obama and very nearly was the President of the USA (if there was a popular vote she would have been president).
Don’t get me wrong, she would have absolutely been a competent president; but her campaign was so godawful, self-sabotaging, and unpopular that she actively encouraged trump to run and enabled him to win. Her decisions and opinions are an active detriment to the party she participates in, and she lacks the self awareness to recognize that.
This is straight up fraud. I believe that one of the reasons companies do this is to signal business growth to prospects and investors. For public companies, that’s a form of securities fraud. I observed this firsthand when doing a job search a few years ago. I would apply to new job listings as soon as they were published. After not hearing a response I would check in to see if the listing was still active. I would frequently see the exact same listing reappear every six weeks or so. I watched this cycle repeat for more than a year with some companies. Each time the job is re-listed, the clock resets on networks like LinkedIn. It creates the illusion of fresh business activity and growth. One specific company that did this was Snowflake. To clarify, I am directly accusing Snowflake of securities fraud.
What addon is that? Its very frustrating using LinkedIn and having to click through so many pages of useless results, especially all the listings from other job boards.
I’m not at home to check at the moment, but I think it’s Jobs Filterer for LinkedIn by Jonathan Kamens. Lets you prefilter with regex for like company or job title, and give you a button to manually hide specific listings as well.
I mentioned this in my comment below, that its used as a means to secure debt from banks since they have high employment activity. Fraud seems like an appropriate word, but its only illegal if theres actual enforcement.
