JustZ , in Algeria bans 'Barbie' almost a month after movie's local release
@JustZ@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah conservatives all over the world are fragile bitches that cheer for censorship.

proper , in Algeria bans 'Barbie' almost a month after movie's local release

oh ok.

JustZ , in Entire police department in Minnesota resigns
@JustZ@lemmy.world avatar

Entire “city” has 1,176 people in it. That requires one cop.

BombOmOm ,
@BombOmOm@lemmy.world avatar

In many places, small communities will pay the state police to handle all police related business in the town as getting proper police coverage can be difficult otherwise.

DLSchichtl ,

Not here. State police only come out for really big shit, otherwise they stick to interstates. Highways and interstates also have highway patrol, but they focus on 18-wheelers. What you are describing is county here. They cover a handful of small towns and unincorporated land, but response times are DREADFUL.

Buelldozer ,

I hear ya but it does take a bit more than that. People get sick or go on vacation plus they can get called out any time day or night. They had 3 Full timers and 2 part timers and it looks like they were doing Code Enforcement and Animal Control as well.

Domriso ,

Good, now they can hire actual people to do those jobs and not subhuman mongoloids.

Madison420 ,

Random racism, neat. Way to bring Reddit to Lemmy.

DLSchichtl ,

What makes them subhuman mongoloids, Mr. Troll?

CaptObvious , in Rudy Giuliani, who pioneered the use of RICO when he was a US attorney, just got indicted on RICO charges

Didn’t he also pioneer the “perp walk”? Can we pleeeeease see him and The Cheeto led down the courthouse steps in handcuffs? Pretty please?

SulaymanF , in Sex in self-driving cars: Passengers are reportedly hooking up in San Francisco's driverless taxis

This brings up a serious issue once these things become ubiquitous. If there’s no driver then who will make sure these things are clean? Over time these will become smelly vomit-filled cabs with litter if it’s a completely automated 24 hour cab system.

JustAManOnAToilet ,

Sounds like they need to make the interiors waterproof and send them through some automated wash between fares.

cloaker ,

Hopefully public transport gains over them then, you can imagine how awful it'll be for the environment; and you'll likely get wet pants or socks where the car didn't dry quick enough 🤣

RagingNerdoholic ,

There’s a guy who wipes down the loads.

CADmonkey ,

I imagine it will be like those electric Lime scooters. They won’t bother to take care of them other than charging them, and we will soon find automated cabs in the river.

Rom , in Entire police department in Minnesota resigns

Finally, a city with good police.

_wintermute , in Entire police department in Minnesota resigns

It was his 193rd conviction for child abuse.

nxfsi , in Australian ex-priest has prison sentence extended to 40 years for molesting 72nd child victim

Literally 72 virgins

handhookcardoor , in Australian ex-priest has prison sentence extended to 40 years for molesting 72nd child victim

Maybe they should’ve arrested him after the 71st kid.

tider06 ,

Should have put him down after the first.

echodot ,

I think the authorities like it to get into the triple digits before they feel the need to do anything.

AllonzeeLV , in Florida woman doused herself in Mountain Dew to erase DNA after killing roommate in Daytona Beach: police
Tolstoshev , in Australian ex-priest has prison sentence extended to 40 years for molesting 72nd child victim

How many lives has he ruined? How many suicides? How many instances of domestic violence? How many people who had to live the rest of their lives in misery because they couldn’t get effective help?

I don’t even want a death sentence for people like him. I want him to be waterboarded every day until his every waking moment is filled with the same constant fear and anxiety as his victims.

GiddyGap , in Florida woman doused herself in Mountain Dew to erase DNA after killing roommate in Daytona Beach: police

What the…reads Florida…ahh…

xc2215x , in Sex in self-driving cars: Passengers are reportedly hooking up in San Francisco's driverless taxis

Not a surprise, much easier thanks to not having to drive.

TokenBoomer , in Vice blocked news stories that could offend Saudi Arabia, insiders say

Maybe for profit journalism isn’t the best model. Anyone have a solution?

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. NPR.

TokenBoomer ,

Got my mug and bumper sticker, still waiting on my tote.

chickenwing ,

Good way to only get the US government approved perspective.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

NPR gets almost no funding from the US government and regularly runs stories critical of said government. What are you talking about?

chickenwing ,

Lol it’s almost never critical of the US government. It will be critical of certain politicians and policies but rarely will they criticize the US foreign policy. Unless you consider puff pieces like this one for the CIA news you should seriously consider using other sources for foreign policy news.

FlyingSquid OP ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

They do one positive story about the CIA and therefore they’re in the government’s pocket? That’s a poor argument.

chickenwing ,

Much more than one. They are always on the side of the military industrial complex. So is the New York Times so it’s not just npr but acting like they are beyond reproach is dumb.

Bobert ,
@Bobert@sh.itjust.works avatar

What sources would you recommend?

chickenwing ,

Independent journalist and smaller outlets. Unfortunately places like Vice and The Intercept started out pretty good but they have changed for the worse. But the one place I’d never recommend is any government funded news source and no I don’t care if it’s only a little bit. Also it’s better to follow journalist then to follow outlets. Plenty of journalist write on substack and other places to remain independent.

TigrisMorte ,

blatant lie remains false. Film at eleven.

chickenwing ,

Yeah that puff piece was full of lies.

TigrisMorte ,

Nope just your claim. Puff piece was puff piece but not remotely false.

chickenwing ,

The 9/11 attacks put the CIA on a dramatically different course. The agency went from an emphasis on traditional spy work — collecting intelligence and recruiting foreign spies — to a focus on paramilitary operations.

This quote is a huge lie. The CIA has been involved in paramilitary ops and coups in South America and other places since its inception. This article tries to pin all of the CIAs sins on the Bush administration which is a lie by omission and a hostile lie as it’s praising the agency on the Ukrainian Russian war. This puff piece was meant to make it seem like the CIA is in the moral right to be anti Russia but made a misstep on the war on terror. It’s propaganda and it is a terrible way to stay informed.
