Cool data point, but 7% doesn’t feel significant to me

Probably because you’re not a woman that may need CPR one day. It’s easy to dismiss things that won’t ever effect you.

CorruptBuddha ,

Probably because 7% is a small ass number. Give me a 7% statistic about nonbinaries, and we’ll see how many fucks I think it’s worth.

bobman , in US FCC chair to seek reinstating net neutrality rules rescinded under Trump

If some websites seem to load significantly faster than others now (youtube, reddit, facebook), it’s because ISPs can throttle or prioritise traffic to certain websites and they do not have to report this information to their customers.

Mango ,

Oh yeah boi look at our data speed! (video capped at 480p expected speed)

Seriously, does anyone have a way I can keep my isp from knowing I’m streaming video so I can actually do that??

DSkou7 ,

VPN

winterayars ,

And that’s why i run YouTube through a VPN (sometimes).

Cihta ,
@Cihta@lemmy.world avatar

VPN is great and a solution but it can also be a hassle in many configurations.

And really there is nothing stopping them from throttling secure traffic unless you buy a business plan or whatever they come up with.

I hope it can be reinstated because allowing ISPs to throttle various traffic gives absolutely no benefit to the end user.

willis936 ,

To guarantee that all of your traffic is throttled?

winterayars ,

I get gigabit synchronous through VPN.

Last sentence sums it up.

systemglitch , in Women are less likely to receive CPR in public than men: Study

No way I help a woman in that situation. Zero chance unless I already know them well. not casually well, they have to know mebin return. So basically family and nothing further.

I know CPR.

Reap what you sow society.

I had a woman ask me to get I her car to figure out why it wasn’t starting for her one time, this isn’t even close to CPR and that feeling of dread hit me and I refused. No way I’m putting myself in even greater danger.

I know the reality is thing will likely be fine in both situations. Then I remember multiple women telling lies in my life, accusing me of things I never did.

I had to go to court and has her admit on stand she lied. I almost went to jail and she got off Scott free. That isn’t justice.

With how much more weight women’s voices get and how much favourably the justice system views women compared to men. Yeah no, fuck that, I will not put myself in a situation where a woman can tell another lie to ruin another life.

ZeroCool OP ,

lol @ these ridiculous fever dreams of an incel. We both know none of that ever happened.

systemglitch ,

Okay.

Codify it into law or it will just be destroyed again the next time we're stupid enough to elect a Republican.

VentraSqwal ,

I agree, but we can’t even fund the fucking government as long as the Republicans control the House.

They don’t have the votes. I’m sure they would if they actually had a majority any of the last 3 years that didn’t compose “best we can do” folks like Manchin and Senima.

Verizon would just block it with their corporate veto powers.

tallwookie , in Hunter Biden sues Rudy Giuliani, attorney Robert Costello for "hacking" laptop data

accessing data on an unecrypted volume isnt “hacking”

520 , (edited )

That depends. If they bypassed the Windows logon in any way to get to the data, that can be construed as hacking per the CFAA. Since that data is normally protected by a Windows logon in all legitimate cases, it can be construed as hacking.

Not to mention to purchase of a stolen hard hard drive.

themeatbridge ,

The lawsuit against Giuliani and Costello claims they used Hunter Biden’s username to gain access to his data,

Depends on what you mean by “hacking,” but generally speaking it just means bypassing digital security. Like how it’s still breaking and entering even if you use a key, or even if the door is unlocked. Legally speaking, “hacking” includes accessing something without permission, regardless of how easy it was to access.

SpeakinTelnet ,
@SpeakinTelnet@sh.itjust.works avatar

It’s also why social engineering is considered a form of hacking even though someone might willingly give you access to what was secured.

EvacuateSoul ,

Correct, even violating TOS can count under the CFAA, meaning you could log into your spouse’s social media with their permission, but if that platform says it’s against TOS, it’s a crime, since you’re accessing their equipment in violation of those agreements.

HubertManne , in US FCC chair to seek reinstating net neutrality rules rescinded under Trump

congress needs to put it into law which means we need to vote for congressmen that will do that. Granted mine do.

roguetrick , in US FCC chair to seek reinstating net neutrality rules rescinded under Trump

Wish we had a Congress that could codify it instead of worrying about the shit show that is admin law. Sadly that's what America runs on nowadays.

OldWoodFrame , in Before Jan. 6, the FBI predicted extremists would be 'very willing to take action' over a 2020 election dispute

Same issue as the “Bin Laden determined to attack US” report from before 9/11. Looking back on it, there was a report that seems to predict exactly what happened, but this was one of many reports, and vague enough that it could have been confirmed with a bomb threat in Atlanta just as easily as Jan 6th.

    tacosplease ,

Except this one was obvious to everyone before it happened.

Look at reddit posts from Jan 3-5. Everyone was saying progressives should stay home because the conservatives were going to get violent.

We all knew J6 was coming. We didn’t all know 9/11 was coming.
