UnD3Rgr0uNDCL0wN , in Twitter Exec Defends Restoring Account That Shared Child Sex Abuse Material

Twitter/X is surely legally complicit in this. Thought you guys over there had the FBI for this? Surely you can all report them to the FBI and tr and trigger an investigation into the website’s management?

Hype ,

The FBI serves the government, not the people. Reporting things to the FBI as a citizen only works if what you are reporting aligns with the current goals of the FBI. If the government is ok with what Twitter/X is doing, the FBI doesn’t give a shit. Behold the highly effective bribery lobbying system.

UnD3Rgr0uNDCL0wN ,

Didnt realise things had changed so much there.

beanz00_ , in Red Cross ends blood-donation restrictions that singled out gay and bisexual men
@beanz00_@lemmy.world avatar

how the hell have we reached a point as a society where people would rather literally fucking die than get life saving blood from someone who thinks differently from them?

Jardthebard ,

Bigots just assume the blood is always gonna be there. They don’t think as deeply as you credit them for

VindictiveJudge ,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

This started off when HIV was much more prominent in the gay and bisexual male population than anyone else. The Red Cross, among other organizations, decided it was better to just deny blood from gay and bi males than to check all their samples for HIV. Similarly, you can’t give blood if you were in certain locations in the '80s and '90s due to potential exposure to Mad Cow Disease. At this point, while HIV is still somewhat more prevalent in that demographic, rates have gone down significantly and HIV has spread to the other demographics. It’s also easier to test for than it was then. Repealing these restrictions was proposed quite some time ago and didn’t face any real pushback, but bureaucracy is going to bureaucracy, so it’s taken years to get this settled.

DragonTypeWyvern ,

It wasn’t the Red Cross, it was the FDA. This article phrases it as the Red Cross loosening restrictions because the FDA ended the ban in May, and the Red Cross’s own procedural bureaucracy is just now catching up.

billygoat ,

Person who lived in Europe in the early 90s here. Couldn’t give blood until earlier this year due to the Mad Cow restrictions.

    Doubt. I doubt these stories are being reported to him. He has been a Cassandra for years to the point that he lost his job and now he presents a bunch of anecdotal stories that can’t be verified.

    Sure Christianity hasn’t exactly needed Christ since the beginning but the specific claims in this article I do not believe.

    pulaskiwasright , (edited )

    That doesn’t sound very unbelievable to me. It’s not a direct quote and it very much sounds like the sentiment that I hear from evangelicals that I’m acquainted with.

    Good.

    The medical community needs to come down harder on these people, if you ask me. It’s not a free speech matter when junk science is being proliferated and causing people’s deaths, and there should be professional and legal consequences for people who do this.

    I’d just like to sit in on the closed door leadership meetings where they admit they think Paul masterfully hijacked the gospels and grew Christianity into a tool for oppression. Then divise ways to fuck over their own congregations.

    Burn_The_Right , in Dog abandoned at Pittsburgh airport after owner learns it needs crate to fly

    This story comes from a conservative tabloid. Is there any verification that this actually happened? Perhaps from a legitimate news source?

    Fester ,

    Any story that comes with a photo of a cop and a living dog is valuable to Fox News.

    aelwero ,

    Are you suggesting everything from a conservative source is “fake news”?

    That was one of the first little bits of verbal diarrhea that we saw from a certain oompa loompa looking motherfucker back in the day… You remember? The guy that turned most of the conservative side of the house into a jonestown cult? Don’t listen to the other guys news stories because blah blah blah they’re liberals and we don’t like em?

    It’s ok I guess, do the exact same shit you claim to hate… I’ll be over in the corner there with my popcorn and shit. At some point I’ll abandoned all your forums like I’ve abandoned theirs, whenever y’all go full batshit.

    Burn_The_Right ,

    Fox “News” testified in court (multiple times) that no reasonable person would accept their stories as factual. They testified under oath that they are not news.

    As for the rest of conservative media, every word uttered by a conservative is deception or manipulation. Every single word.

    lolcatnip ,

    You can’t know what’s real and what’s a lie on Fox News, so the correct response is to believe nothing they say unless it’s corroborated. But if you have another source, what do you need Fox News for? There is literally no reason to ever pay attention to Fox News except to keep tabs on what bullshit they’re feeding to their audience.

    aelwero ,

    It’s a very short article, woman left her microchipped dog in a stroller after she was told it couldn’t fly without a crate, and they intend to charge her.

    There’s nothing about race, gender, sexuality, age, no mention of anything that would immediately get identified in a typical left/right biased article. There’s absolutely zero politicizing, so why would there be any concern for factuality?

    I don’t have a clue what fox news even looks like anymore (I don’t really give a shit what outlet is hosting any given article, but I’m not going to actively looking for fox news articles, and I’m not prone to visiting righty communities that would post them), but clicking this and reading it gives me absolutely no indication that I need any grains of salt to go with it. I can’t say the same for like 99% of the articles that get linked…

    The “oh no… Fox… Lies!!! Everything is false!!! Beware!!!” Seems more like righty shit than lefty shit, so I’m gonna say something :)

    Burn_The_Right ,

    Fox lies. They are world famous for it. This is not a sleight or an insult. It is not a commentary on weak or partisan journalism. It is a fact. They are liars. They have testified to that in court multiple times. That makes them a tabloid. They admit that in courtrooms. Their veracity should never, ever be assumed.

    No one is picking on you. We are simply questioning the source, since the source itself admits to being questionable.

    Mdotaut801 , in Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'

    Diplomjodler , in Russia launches lunar lander in race to find water on moon

    It’s high time for the US to ditch their white elephant, the SLS, and get serious about space again. The new space race has already begun. The only real prospect for the US is the Starship program but that’s run by a crazy narcissist with dubious loyalties. Time to stop coasting and to take control again.

    raunz ,
    @raunz@mander.xyz avatar

    What’s the problem with SLS?

    Diplomjodler ,

    Way too expensive, to the tune of over a billion per mission. Not innovative and yet they can’t even get their ancient technology to work. Not reusable, like they take old Shuttle engines that have flown multiple times and then just expend them. Such a waste. The whole thing is just a boondoggle that serves no purpose other than letting politicians hand out government pork to their local constituencies.

    raunz ,
    @raunz@mander.xyz avatar

    While it’s expensive, it’s only too expensive if someone else does the same cheaper. In terms of payload mass the only competition is Starship. Starship is still in development and has no successful launches, while SLS has 100% success rate with one launch. So if you want your heavy stuff, or people even, to get into space safely you better hand over the money to NASA.

    Diplomjodler ,

    NASA had several options to develop smaller rockets with orbital refuelling. Which is the way forward according to just about every expert. There was one senator, I forget the name, who explicitly blocked research into that just so he could keep his pork barrels. The whole thing is riddled with cost overruns and piss-poor project management (launch tower, anyone?) This is of course mainly due to political meddling but overall this whole program has been a disaster.
