It does get less hyper as it goes on, but only to a point.

It helps to think of your hair as essentially being a mane. Remember, lion manes also expose their forehead.

I’m running a 4090 on PCIe 3. Apparently I’m only losing about 5% off the potential frame rate, which is barely noticeable.

I’m hoping that advances in 3D printers will make this a reality in my lifetime.

I love Technology Connections, especially the series on the CED. It’s just fascinating technology.

Nah, too much punctuation and not enough random capitalization.

They did. It was based on the PC version that Gearbox fucked up and it took ten years for the classic mode graphics to be fixed. The remastered graphics were a lazy mishmash of Halo 3 and Reach models haphazardly thrown together. The remastered level geometry also didn’t match the actual geometry, which resulted in things like invisible trees blocking your bullets.

VindictiveJudge ,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

It was also based on Gearbox’s shoddy PC port, so the classic graphics were broken on release and stayed that way for about ten years.

VindictiveJudge ,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

Honestly, 3 doesn’t really need it. The art direction is excellent and just inceasing the render resolution works great. Same with ODST and Reach.

Holy crap, I actually think I understand some of what happened here. It sounds like someone learned about the Byzantine Empire and got very confused.

The western half of the Roman Empire fell in the 5th century, but the eastern half didn’t collapse until the 15th century. The surviving eastern half has been retroactively named the Byzantine Empire, but when it existed was just called the Roman Empire or the Empire of the Greeks, depending on the year and where you were at. The eastern capital (and Rome had two for a while for administrative purposes, along with two emperors) was Constantinople and it was specifically designed and advertised as a second Rome to justify having a capital there.

I think this guy learned about the Byzantine Empire / Eastern Roman Empire, but not how it relates to the Western Roman Empire. Throw in some assumptions, some logical fallacies, a poor understanding of linguistics and transliteration, and then serve with some conspiratorial thinking on the side and you get the above post.

Being attracted to anthropomorphized whatevers isn’t even all that odd. I mean, have you ever played an RPG and romanced a non-human character? If you think Karlach or Garrus are hot, then what’s the problem with thinking Lola Bunny or The Beast is hot? I don’t really get the fursonas or the suits, but I also don’t get the appeal of mashed potatoes, so…

Like if your computer got a glitch that caused it to burn CDs that, when inserted into another computer, gave it a glitch that caused it to burn CDs that, when inserted into another computer, etc.

If it’s illegal, then the ruling party starts throwing everything at their political opponents until something sticks, even if that was smoking pot once in college.

VindictiveJudge ,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

If felonies prevented people from holding government positions just imagine how many bogus charges would be leveled at the GOP’s enemies just to see if anything stuck. Just look at how Russia throws bogus charges at people to prevent them from running against Putin.

Fun fact: The Catholic Church, of all things, officially says the ‘let the earth bring forth’ bit of one of the bible’s two creation stories is a poetic way to reference evolution.

Now I’m wondering what high surface tension oceans would look like.

VindictiveJudge ,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

I’m thinking where you could lay down next to the water on the beach and have the surface of the ocean slightly higher than the tip of your nose.

But the 28.2 million cows in America only need about an acre of land each; meaning that the 124.7 million acres of land they roam is about five times bigger than what they actually need.

Wouldn’t we want cattle using at least a bit more land than they strictly need? Overgrazing was one of the contributing factors to the Dust Bowl.

Law 0 is also a derived law rather than a programmed one. Robots with both the three laws and sufficient intelligence that are in a position where Law 1 becomes a catch 22 will tend to derive Law 0.

Silica dust will kick up off the nearby dunes, carry in the wind, but due to its weight it’ll be less likely to erode higher elevations. So the tip top of the pyramid is high enough up sand in the wind won’t reach it as easily so it erodes way slower.

That, and the pyramids were stripped for building materials later on. Lower levels were easier to access, so people didn’t generally bother going all the way to the top, except for the ones with gold covered peaks.

Quantum entanglement communications also have fundamental problems that will likely render them effectively unusable. You need a key to decrypt anything you send, and the key has to travel no faster than c. It’s impossible to tell the data from the noise without the key. Attempting to read the data or to change the data being sent also collapses the effect, which can only be fixed by bringing the two systems together. In short, you can only send a single packet of data and you can’t use it without a key transmitted using traditional methods.

VindictiveJudge ,
@VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world avatar

The limit is c because you have to use cables, radio, or other traditional methods to send the key. The data in the entangled pair would also have to be set at the time the two devices are constructed, so that’s not super useful. It might be useful for single use authentication, but that’s about it.

Don’t think of entanglement as being like one object in two spots. Think of it like identical twins. One twin getting a hair cut does nothing to the other twin’s hair. Similarly, altering a property of one entangled particle does nothing to the other and actually means they are no longer entangled or identical.

No problem. I was pretty disappointed when I learned all the sci-fi writers were getting it wrong. Though, to be fair, it really should be called something else.
