CATO backed the suit and their board of directors is about half bankers or former bankers. This isn’t even the first time they tried this, back October last year.
They couldn’t win in public opinion, they couldn’t win by lobbying, so they tried it in court. They failed completely to demonstrate that they had any standing to bring this case.
They also claim to be libertarian. Just something to remember the next time people tell you that there is a difference between the two.
Yeah I admit I don’t understand the law very well but it’s weird how offended observer no longer counts for church separation laws. That web design event planner was especially interesting since no one gay had actually asked about it. Seems the lawyers just made it up.
It was very strange. Most lawyers expected the supreme court to toss it due to lack of standing. The fact that they didn’t means that they’re more of a legislative branch now. It’s not a good precedent to set.
So wait, even if I would use just the scanner from the device and not for copying purposes, it’ll still not work because of ink levels? If so, that is absolute bullshit.
Besides, I have lost faith in all-in-one devices. If one of them breaks, the rest of it goes too. And this is just a customer nightmare realized for HP to treat their devices in this fashion.
Yes. Canon did this shit to me a decade+ ago. Had to go to the store late at night to buy yellow ink so I could scan a goddamned document I needed to send out. Haven’t given them another dollar since.
Happened to me in Summer 2020 after printing maybe 100 total pages on a printer I’d owned for two months.
I kept getting emails about the HP subscription program and then my basically new printer inexplicably stopped working. I assumed HP bricked it and, as much as I hated to, tossed it out and told myself I was never buying their product again. Luckily the KC public library has free black and white printing anyway.
Are they though? Sure there are charges, and may even be convictions (I’m not convinced on that one) But will they actually serve real time, in a real prison, with other real criminals? It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it doesn’t end up being some sort of Wolf Of Wall Street type sentence (if any). And the ring leader in this circus will probably get a lo-jack on his ankle and be confined to Mar-a-lago (again if actually convicted)
Now, they deserve far worse IMO, for something like what they all did, capital punishment doesn’t feel strong enough for them. But our system is so screwed up beyond any real semblance of real justice, it wouldn’t surprise me if this all in the end, results with absolution no real world consequences for any of them, let alone the head clown…
They’re largely cooked–read the indictments in their entirety or watch two lawyers geek out over it. They were way too brazen, and even a conservative judge would have their hand forced by the law and public interest. These are the consequences of criminal behavior, and all criminals must face this eventually; I know because I’ve been locked up quite a bit and am familiar with the machinations of the US Justice system. They are in for complete psychological torture. I literally couldn’t imagine a worse punishment for these people whose realities depend upon narcissistic delusions and extrinsic reinforcement. It will be a painful disintegration for any person, much less an aged person with affluenza. They will experience isolation reserved for the worst people alive because of their profile and because of Thomas Silverstein making the Ultramax system airtight. Trump’s most likely end point is 100+ feet underground in Colorado, with all the other high profile crims, having destroyed all friends and family.
The RICO charges is an unappealable AND unpardonable 5 year minimum sentence, for example.
the county attorney said he had asked a court to withdraw the warrant he sought last week for alleged identity theft and unlawful use of a computer.
just want to add two bits of context to this lovely little glossing-over statement:
First off, to get a search warrant, you need to submit a sworn affidavit of probable cause, which generally gives a chronological list of facts that support the probably cause. The "probable cause affidavit" for this search warrant didn't do that. In fact, it was essentially just a copy of the search warrant itself.
Secondly, the District Attorney's brother owns the hotel that the restaurant is in. If the restaurant gets it's (very lucrative) liquor license approved, the brother can raise the rent by a nice amount.
More fun : the judge that approved it had 2 DUIs in 2 different counties in 2012. She blew off her deferment, and apprently the first DUI was not taken into account for the punishment during the 2nd.
She was of course a local elected prosecutor running on a GOP ticket, and friends to local judges at the time. The second dui happened in a judges car. She was appointed to this role in January, and no one will say if they knew about the DUIs, as legally required.
I remember when Vice was “bleeding-edge-unwavering-unapologetic-raw-insert-other-catchy-adjective news! The stories no one else has the genitals to cover!”
I never personally thought that but I’m pretty sure that’s what they wanted other people to think.
Whats fucked up is this type of bullshit has been a damned meme for over a fucking decade and they’re just now allowing a class action to go to trial. At this point lots of other printer makers have followed suit in some form or another.
yeah, I’m sue they’ll all be in perfect condition, too. nothing smashed, no hard drives mysteriously erased or “dropped”… oh, and can they bring that old lady back to life? no? yeah, well… it’s just a life, right?
"Look I know I called all these people groomers, which is a pretty serious accusation, and then used the power of the state that I run to strip them of some of the privileges they have, and explicitly said that I did that because they said something I don’t like, but this is bumming me out can you just drop it?
