These companies have been doing so good lately with everyone only wanting trucks and SUV’s as there is insane markup on those types of vehicles. The companies can afford to pass along some of those profits to their workers.
The Big Three have profit sharing. From 2022 profits, GM employees received $12,750. Ford employees get $1,000 per $1 billion in North American pretax profit. Stellantis employees got $14,760.
Trucks and SUVs are popular. But people do want economy cars-- they've just stopped selling them. These larger vehicles classify as light trucks and don't have the same fuel economy and emissions regulations as reasonably-sized cars. It's a big scam.
People don’t want domestic economy cars. People who like domestic brands want trucks and SUV’s. People who want economy cars will pretty much only look at Honda/Toyota and both those manufacturers still make economy vehicles.
I have never once seen someone online recommend a ford focus or Chevy cruze to anyone. It’s always a carolla/Camry or civic/accord.
Yeah, that’s kind of my point. Why would they keep making them when they have a rep of being bad and no one buys them? People want their trucks and SUV’s
I find the best way to change your reputation is to change who you are. If you want to be seen as making a good product you should make a good product.
They had from the early 70s to get it together. Make economy cars that people wanted to buy. Instead they continue to make bigger and bigger fuel consuming monsters. Then every recession beg for government money.
This is part of the ploy to continue that: get the employees to get pay from the union to carry signs for a few weeks. In the mean time they can sell what inventory they have at full price instead of discounts, and when inventory gets low enough they settle the contract and make more cars. there is probably some at GM who is looking at inventory levels (all those cars made in 2021 that didn't get chips), and will make an unreasonable demand if it looks like the contract is close to being settled.
This is why Just in Time is good: it forces companies to treat their people well so they are able to work when there is need.
Well considering BMW and Mercedes were once war manufacturers for the OG Nazis and are now breaking into the EV market…I’d say it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch of the imagination.
A florida law I actually agree with. In my area, 40% of home purchasers are Chinese nationals looking to park their money outside if China. No American can afford to buy a home and they’re using our houses like a piggy bank.
Same is happening in major Canadian cities too. Has completely destroyed the housing market. There’s other factors as well but that’s not helping at all.
Seriously, I’m a Capitalist (and a Classical Liberal) but why do these articles always talk about how much a labor action is going to cost a company but they never talk about how much the ongoing actions of the company have cost labor?
Lol it’s almost never critical of the US government. It will be critical of certain politicians and policies but rarely will they criticize the US foreign policy. Unless you consider puff pieces like this one for the CIA news you should seriously consider using other sources for foreign policy news.
Much more than one. They are always on the side of the military industrial complex. So is the New York Times so it’s not just npr but acting like they are beyond reproach is dumb.
Independent journalist and smaller outlets. Unfortunately places like Vice and The Intercept started out pretty good but they have changed for the worse. But the one place I’d never recommend is any government funded news source and no I don’t care if it’s only a little bit. Also it’s better to follow journalist then to follow outlets. Plenty of journalist write on substack and other places to remain independent.
The 9/11 attacks put the CIA on a dramatically different course. The agency went from an emphasis on traditional spy work — collecting intelligence and recruiting foreign spies — to a focus on paramilitary operations.
This quote is a huge lie. The CIA has been involved in paramilitary ops and coups in South America and other places since its inception. This article tries to pin all of the CIAs sins on the Bush administration which is a lie by omission and a hostile lie as it’s praising the agency on the Ukrainian Russian war. This puff piece was meant to make it seem like the CIA is in the moral right to be anti Russia but made a misstep on the war on terror. It’s propaganda and it is a terrible way to stay informed.
Judge David Strong issued his ruling Thursday morning, a day after the defense asked for a mistrial because Brookhaven police Detective Vincent Fernando acknowledged under oath that he did not give the prosecution or defense a videotaped statement police had taken from Gibson.
…
The judge ended Wednesday’s court session early because Fernando acknowledged under oath that he had not previously given prosecutors or defense attorneys a videotaped statement. The jury was not in the courtroom when he disclosed this.
“The bottom line is, this file should have been turned over to the D.A.’s office prior to the indictment and by file, I mean the entire file, including a video recorded statement of the victim, which was also requested by the defense to the D.A.’s office,” Strong told Fernando on Wednesday. He added that Bates acknowledged the request had been made and said that he had been told it didn’t exist.
And possibly also some police obstruction of justice:
Moore [the complainant’s lawyer] said he would ask the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to investigate the police department’s conduct in the case for potential obstruction of justice.
“We are hopeful that the Department of Justice’s involvement will help shed light on this serious matter and ensure that justice is served,” he said.
Moore has previously said he believes police were not thorough in the investigation and questioned why it took almost 10 months for Gregory and Brandon Case to be indicted.
I can’t figure out what outcome the cop was trying to achieve by withholding the video. The defense asked for it. The white guys. Maybe the cop is Black and wanted them to lose?
