This will never solve

geekworking , in Trump Floats the Idea of Executing Joint Chiefs Chairman Milley

So if the general who didn’t act as quickly as people expected should be hanged, what should happen to the Commander In Chief who started the attack then gleefully watched for nearly 4 hours without doing a single thing to stop it despite everyone around him begging him to do something.

provisional ,

Rules for thee, but not for me.

Treczoks , in Lego drops prototype blocks made of recycled plastic bottles as they "didn't reduce carbon emissions"

LEGO is doing research in so many areas for that plan. Some succeed (Like “Plants made from plants”), and some (Like the PET blocks) do not.

I have participated in a trial some years ago where I got a set that was obviously hand-packed, but looked like a normal set. I believe it was chosen because it contained a selection of bricks in rather large quantities, i.e. it contained a lot of 1x2 bricks in one color and some others like that. Participants were asked to build the model, answer a questionnaire - including entering a code that came with the package, probably to identify the batch or whether it was a placebo set - and send the set back. In hindsight it was bad that I answered the questionnaire immediately after the build, because I noticed an interesting affect of the model on the next day when I tore it down for return. The model had collected dust overnight. I mean, any LEGO model collects dust, but this collected more in 24 hours than others did in weeks or months. And there was no way to add this information.

AceFuzzLord , in Gen Z can’t work alongside people with different views because they ‘haven’t got the skills to disagree’ says British TV boss

Yeah, I’ll just say if I’m working, I just don’t wanna hear politics brought up at all. I’d rather focus on work or maybe small talk. I don’t wanna end up in a scenario where I expose my political views only to find I’ve made enemies with the wrong people in a company or group.

overlyanxious ,
@overlyanxious@sh.itjust.works avatar

HA as much as im amused by the idea of being in the radical politics generation i agree with this, politics dont belong in the workplace & it’s better to shut it down & not. also jesus christ politics are polarized sometimes, why the hell would anyone LGBTQ want to befriend somebody who holds the opinion all trans people are pedos?

wishthane ,

I do but only with people I’ve actually made friends with who I’m pretty sure will either agree with me or at least respect my point of view. I’ll share mildly political articles in discussion groups for those specific things at work sometimes, but those are places where people have specifically opted in to hearing about them and are interested in the topics.

NuPNuA , in Gen Z can’t work alongside people with different views because they ‘haven’t got the skills to disagree’ says British TV boss

It’s fucking hilarious seeing a bunch of septics in here without a scooby about Channel 4 deciding it must be full of bigoted managers that the gen Z won’t tolerate. When it’s always been one of the most progressive channels in the UK and has been allowing diverse voices to shine for years.

centof , in Gen Z can’t work alongside people with different views because they ‘haven’t got the skills to disagree’ says British TV boss

Meanwhile said CEO is the one that intentionally promotes ‘clueless’ people (Read overtly offensive) people as leaders and then paints the workers that are coerced to humor them as in the wrong when they don’t put up with it.

NuPNuA ,

Have you ever actually watched Channel 4? They’re one of the more progressive voices in UK media, I very much doubt that their management are all secretly bigots behind the scenes.

vamp07 , in Republicans launch probe into Biden administration’s response to Maui fires

z3rOR0ne , in Women are less likely to receive CPR in public than men: Study

This Radiolab Episode always comes to my mind when people bring up CPR in any context. Apparently doctors overwhelmingly don’t wish to be resuscitated for a good reason…

krayj ,

It’s critical to point out the primary scenario associated with the survey and chart data in that article.

“Given the scenario of irreversable brain injury”.

That changes everything.

z3rOR0ne , (edited )

Oh definitely. 10 minutes max to administer CPR before death is pretty much certain. IIRC, after 3 minutes chances of brain damage rise to 80%.

Not to mention the 30% chance of painful broken ribs, but hey at least you’re alive with probably a hefty hospital bill, at least in the states.

I suppose that an addendum should be added to do not resuscitate tags. Do not resuscitate after specified time span. Or something like that.

bluGill ,

Do not resuscitate tags are not something i'm trained at reading. If I see them and do CPR anyway I am protected by my states good Samaritan laws. If I see them and do nothing I could be in legal trouble! (Not anymore, but I uses to be on an emergency response team and then I was legally required to get involved). Even paramedics are trained to ignore those tags, once the patient is in the hospital there are procedures to verify if they are valid (as opposed to a murderer planting them I guess)

z3rOR0ne ,

Ultimately I’m more in favor of the default response and laws around the subject being what they are. I just question these norms sometimes because I also strongly believe in the right to die.

This quickly becomes complicated given the contexts of the tragic experiences of those that survive life saving procedures like CPR with a significantly diminished quality of life due to permanent brain damage and other incurred disabilities. At what point does a person who wanted to live given full abilities of their mind and body comes to prefer to die when they no longer possess said cognitive/bodily functions? I honestly wonder.

Not something anyone who is watching somebody fall to the floor and stop breathing can take the time to contemplate, obviously. But the thought still gives me pause.

One of my biggest fears, bigger than dying even, is being “forced” to live when my mental faculties are far gone due to irreparable brain damage. And I wonder if it’d be less emotionally traumatic for my loved ones to have to see me like that than if someone trying to save my life had simply called the efforts no longer worth it after a (hopefully) thoughtful assessment.

I just honestly don’t know, and the thoughts around it do occassionally haunt me when I contemplate my own inevitable demise.

InternetCitizen2 ,

Reminds me of a chat I had with a prepped. I basically said that living in a functional society is hard, so I’d rather die quickly in a catastrophic collapse.

z3rOR0ne ,

As a person who loves being alive, I can honestly say I’d rather be dead under many different specific hypothetical circumstances.

My estimation is that you live long enough, you eventually encounter one or many of those circumstances. The right to live as well as the right to die the way you want should never be infringed upon.

Foofighter , in The price gap between renting and buying has hit the widest point since 2000

I see! So rent has to increase to close the gap, right? RIGHT?!

Transcendant , in Ride passengers rescued after dangling upside down, 75 feet up, for half an hour

I got an inversion device couple of years back during the throes of an insanely-painful suspected herniated disc. The instructions were very clear that full inversion was not to last any longer than 5 minutes as it could be extremely dangerous.

Can’t imagine doing 30 mins, with no previous exposure or training, fuuuuuck.

LanternEverywhere , in Costco now offering virtual medical care for $29

That's so crazy, and yet it sounds like a reasonable option compared to many of the other bad options out there

pdxfed ,

Yep, so basically, sign up for the HDHP that offers only a 30 minute annual checkup and menial bankruptcy protection if your issue is short term, for a few hundred bucks per months in premiums, then pay for your actual care needs through a transparent retail organization.

Insane that’s the best option. Fuck insurers, their lobbies and those who keep them installed.

I hate these generation based things. Some little time ago there was odd stuff about millennials everywhere. Now Gen-Z. In a few years Gen Alpha. Then whatever comes next and so on.

People just like to label people. And generations are just another option.

Tedesche ,

Agreed, but I see plenty of Millennials and Gen-Zers making plenty of criticisms and jokes about Boomers all the time. It’s no better when we do it.

CharlesReed ,
@CharlesReed@kbin.social avatar

Man, I've started to see it happening between just the Millennials and the Gen-Z. I assume a good chunk of it is for rage bait/views, at least that's what I'm hoping for. It's so much better when we're working together to try to better the future.

sadreality ,

Never seen this besides on algorithm driven social platforms tho...

I do see boomer hate every tho

Regardless of where it's seen, it's still a bad habit we all need to break. It only perpetuates in creating division.

Gazumi , in White neighbor hoses down prominent black doctor in house party feud

The underlying story here captures the issue of prevelent latent racism. I gave an eye roll when I saw that it was from the Daily Mail (a crappy UK newspaper). They routinely print articles that breed latent racism, but in a way to make people feel reasonable and not at all racist at the same time. Recently they were caught trying to do some “racism laundering”. They’d approached a black writer to be the face of their racist posts that would be produced by ghost writers.
