If this was downtown or at parks I can kinda see them providing something. Knowing this is likely at a university library or building its just removing access that was already there.

Linux admin with 20 years experience, looking for "beginner" distro [Solved, the real beginner distro was the Debian I've used along the way]

I’m over tinkering with my OS. So I’m looking for a distro that “just works” out of the box for my laptop. Also I want to test an “easy” distro I can install for my grandpa....

InternetCitizen2 ,

I got my start with Ubuntu and feel its still quite solid. Many say that Mint is a better Ubuntu than Ubuntu these days. Personally running popOS as I have their hardware.

He’ll discover he was never lost. Simply had to march to the beat of his own drum.

Who ever wrote that could box Iron Mike Tyson and not suffer cognitive decline.

Strictly speaking nothing. But it is written to rile people up, which is a poor journalist ethics. The opposite would be true: “capitalist engineers solve X”

How easy is it to switch back to windows?

I’m considering switching to linux but I’m not a computer savvy person, so I wanted to have the option to switch back to windows if unforeseen complications (I only have 1 pc). Is it just a download on usb and install? And what ways can I get the product key or “cleaner” debloated versions.

InternetCitizen2 ,

If you feel comfortable swapping out the drives on your computer that would be the easiest way. You can buy a cheap ssd to install linux on it. If you really hate it you can just switch back to the windows drive. This also helps you avoid dual booting.

Are business not funded that way now? May explain why the boss asks me more stuff about the company vehicle than any other driver. I thought I was just a top earner.

Medical Bill negotiation, how should one do it?

So I went to a hospital the other day and was told I have a de-deductible of $3,000. I am not sure how much my insurance paid (if anything). At some point I have to talk to the hospital about payment and I want to talk them down to accept a lower amount. I do have some savings to offer, but I would like to get them to agree to...

InternetCitizen2 OP ,

I will definitely be doing that.

InternetCitizen2 OP ,

Why would that not contribute to a deductible?

InternetCitizen2 OP ,

Thank you for your response. I will be reading the links you provided!

Viruses & Task Viewers

Hello everybody! I can say I’m a newbie at Linux. Wanted to ask about Linux’ task viewers. On the famous task viewers such as bpytop, htop etc., can viruses hide from them? Excluding the injected codes, can virus & tracker/logger softwares hide from classic task viewers of Linux? Do they show all kinds of services and...

InternetCitizen2 ,

Good point, but seems like a non starter from many opinions on Linux forums.

Very true. Thanks for your answers!

Or being all he can be in the Army! Ends up being a paper pusher there too.

This right here is the answer. To elaborate a bit; they are taking the Bible as an Axiom, A self-evident principle or one that is accepted as true without proof as the basis for argument; a postulate. The problem is that research around devolution, the formation of the universe, or Earth’s age point to those Axioms not being as solid as once thought. In science this is not an issue; we have moved from Newton’s view on gravity to Einstein’s view with General Relativity, see this for more. In Christianity this is not as simple; remember God is all powerful and all knowing, and by extension so is his word in the Bible. If you conclude something that does not agree then you are challenging that aspect of God. That is the core of fundamentalism. You can already see how this framework leads to a young Earth or dinosaurs living with humans.

Mint is always a good point to start when in doubt. Ubuntu is also solid and has lots of documents online.

Not a troll. Just a voter trying to get both sides.

I stay close to vanilla. For others its a form of art.

Even if our apps used resources better the adware will just use the free space.

InternetCitizen2 ,

Its a pretty good survey and has a good sample size. Statistics is hard. I won’t take the criticism too seriously.

Tbf a lot of that stigma has to do with trust violation.

Getting into Civ 6

I got into Civilization rather late with their fifth entry. I was hesitant because as I get older I need more time to game than I do new titles. Still I picked up six with all DLC during the last sale. I have to say I am liking the changes. It was good to wait because Civ does need its DLCs to feel complete....

There is also a meta discussion here on liquidity (how easy it is to exchange something). People want currency because it is easy to exchange. Your landlord might be okay with getting paid in a mix of gallons of milk and some cuts of beef, but most will not. Trading for “non currency value” is not uncommon. You might get paid with stocks depending on your work. If you buy a car you might trade in your old one.

InternetCitizen2 ,

That explains the pain I was having with 650M.

InternetCitizen2 ,

I was a physics student and going to have to say Ubuntu as well. I think looking at Mint and Pop are also nice picks. Besides Ubuntu being pretty good OOTB most online resources use it as an example; that is very valuable when still astudentt.

InternetCitizen2 ,

or is forbidden to have much of anything within walking distance of homes?

I think we both know it is. No one knows why tho.
