Yep, it’s been a massive improvement for me over Reddit on that end. No more doomscrolling, no more literally endless fights with strangers (still some ofc, but grass touching is back on the menu).
I like it here because of the far left anti-capitalist bs. The internet is full of edgy incel nazis and it’s pretty relieving to have some safe spaces 🤷♂️
Less content, that is spread across multiple instances that can have duplicate communities.
on top of that, there redundant communities that are unnecessary even in the same instances. For example there is the android@ and the askandroid@. The first one has a decent amount of subscribers while the second one has a single digit number. I wanted to ask a question, I posted in the first one since it would make sense to reach more people. The post got deleted and I was told to go to the other one. In the first one they were posting only news articles.
This is ridiculous. Splitting communities in such way was the result of the huge traffic that such communities had in the past in other platforms. This makes sense only when the traffic is so huge that it is practically chaotic to navigate and moderate between news/articles and support questions. When both communities combined have 50 subscribers, such split only harms the platform and the users.
Everyone wanted to migrate by bringing an identical environment to what they had used to. However this should be adaptable to the current situation instead of directly copying it.

Ill call it garbage reddit-brain moderation. The reason for an /ask~ comm is cause your main comm is flooded with repeated questions that would stifle discussion. It’s also not a good solution to that problem, not too mention they don’t have enough users to be having that problem.
The way you form a community is to discuss the same things over and over until a hivemind develops, it’s a good thing to have a group consensus, not that individuals can’t disagree. Now the crappy moderation is gonna cultivate a crappy subreddit vibe instead of something better.
I actually found that I really like the “hot” scrolling so much better. On Reddit, everything I came across had ~hundreds of comments and everything was multiple hours old. I didn’t feel like I could contribute at all. But here… it feels a lot smaller, and most of the “hot” posts are not rubbish, so I feel like I can actually contribute!
Server hardware with their 15000rpm fans will do that. We have a customer specializing in GPU intensive number crunching. They have little storage cupboards accessible from the hallway for every two person office. Their workstations sit there and the cables go through the wall to the desks.
PSA: Trailers are made to look amazing. The actual gameplay is the most important content when judging if a game is worth following. But even gameplay can and has been removed or changed before a videogame is released. But most importantly…
DO NOT BUY PRE-ORDERS OR FIRST DAY BUYS!! The videogame industry has shown time and time again that they “will have to patch the game AFTER the game release, to actually make it a full and functional videogame” Give it time. You might just save yourself a headache and the loss of $40-$70.
I feel you, I haven’t gotten more a couple minutes of teaser trailer which showed nothing of importance to a game franchise that hasn’t had an entry in seven years.
Just sitting here hoping I’ll see the day it comes out lol
I hope so, I didn’t really enjoy hollow knight because I’m not one for the souls-isj gameplay loop but it was a damn good looking game with an excellent OST and I hope the sequel is good for the people who do enjoy it.
I preorder all the time. Have never regretted it. And generally get more content for it. But I also don’t watch gameplay or trailers before it comes out.
I'm an electronics hobbyist. This triggers a panicked sequence of shutting off every power switch and yanking every cord within reach.
I once had some lipo battery leads accidentally touch and weld themselves together, and the second I saw that glow and smoke, ripped the wires apart with full force.
Culture war issues will never go away until people figure out where the real source of their pain comes from. It comes from the 1 percenters. It’s a class war. It always has been.
It’s far, far less than 1%. It’s more like the 0.0001%.
64 billionaires divided by 38 million people times 100 = 0.000168% of the population. I like where your head is at but 1 percenter is an old and inaccurate term.
If the culture war is the class war then the class war is the culture war. Dealing with the culture war is often many many times more actionable. We can and should deal with both.
While I think the rich are one of the most influential sources of it, I’m not convinced they’re the only or even the majority. Like, of the rich stopped using bigotry to divide people, would people stop being bigoted? I don’t think so at all. I think there’s something wrong with humanity that makes it easy for bigotry to evolve even in the absence of power and perhaps worse, for people to want to be bigoted.
If sapolsky is to be believed we have the natural inclination to view in- and out- group as part of our brain. Everything else is learned or a coping mechanism. I guess this is why people propose lived multiculturalism especially during childhood as a solution to xenophobia.
No matter if he can be believed or not on this fact the book is fun wiki
But traditionally women weren’t allowed to portray women. Men had to dress in drag to portray women. If they are all for traditional values then I demand more dresses on more men.
Except when it comes to time to practice said traditional values. Then its “You need to live ??? miles away from your current home to work and break up your family”, “You must drive this late 19th century 2-ton death machine to get anywhere.”, “You can only afford to eat this synthetic imitation bread.”, “Everything must have lactose in it, or our economy will suffer.”, “We need to get used to the new normal of regular shootings, to do otherwise is an attack on our freedoms and our…”
Yeah for higher energy bands especially, I just don’t get wanting to sit at shows. I’d rather just not go if I didn’t think I could stand/dance through a concert. I think it’s cool when venues have some designated seating for those who need it but it’s always kind of a bummer when I go and it’s mostly or only seated…kinda kills the energy
Yeah, I'd much rather be on gen-ad and standing than sitting up in the bleachers, but for some concerts it's like 4x more for gen-ad over seated sections. Sucks, but I'd rather see the band sitting than pay that ridiculous mark up for it.
there’s something really funny about the idea of the hitherto metaphorical kids on one’s lawn clipping the lawn, and that being the thing that gets the old guy all grumpy in this scenario. Like not loitering or doing drugs, just unauthorised lawn maintenance.
I read it as 'walk across the corner of your lawn". Old geezers meme is them yelling at people to “stay off my lawn” Although unauthorised lawn maintenance would piss them off just as well I suppose.
