Men are like volcanoes. They can be quiet for decades before suddenly erupting their accumulated suppressed feelings

As a woman, the secret is the unload your baggage to friends one at a time as to not overwhelm them.

Having a crappy day? Talk about it.

Relationship issues? Talk about it.

Feeling stuck in your career? Talk about it

But don’t do it all at once, otherwise people will feel like you’re misusing them as free therapy, and takes away from the natural give and take between friends/partners.

This is important info that I feel I personally forget very often. Thanks.

Meanwhile, the reality as a man:

“How’s your day?” - it’s fine

“How’s the wife?” - she’s fine

“How’s work?” - it’s fine

Widdecombe is an ex Tory MP who when in Government pushed for cuts to welfare and many hard line right wing policies we now see in action today. Someone disabled phoned into the show today, he’d lost his wife this year and Widdecombe’s reaction was to roll her eyes at his problems and him. His response was “bless her heart.”

I was in a Filipino grocery once and they had “corn and cheese ice cream.” I don’t mean they had corn ice cream and cheese ice cream, which would be weird enough, I mean it was corn and cheese flavor. And they showed a huge dollop of melted cheese being poured onto the corn on the box. If it wasn’t a gallon box, I would have bought it just out of curiosity.

EhList ,

Corn ice cream is great, queso ice cream not so much.

I could see corn. It’s sweet. But mixed with cheese?

I have no idea what that means, so no. I was there for work reasons (shooting a scene for a TV show).

Merman!

li10 , in We've Been Duped

So rarely I see a job description that actually makes any fucking sense.

I used to think it was an experience issue on my side, but I’ve gone back and looked at the descriptions for the positions I’ve worked and it still makes no sense.

It’s all just generic recruitment lines about dynamic teams, managing workload, striving for the best…

Seems to be rare for places to just list the duties of the role these days, the best you get is an idea of the actual role from the “desired skills” section.

jimmydoreisalefty OP ,

You are correct, just a bunch of generalised bs so that they can push more work unto us when needed or when shortstaffed with little to no wage increases.

Filthmontane , in We've Been Duped

This is why unions are important. The job description is contractually binding.

Yep, I had a unionized job where it wasn’t the case and the union even refused to negotiate that clause because they feared the employer would just create ridiculously long task descriptions so they could have us do pretty much anything.

Everybody knows that new Mexico is not part of the USA! 🤣

    AngryCommieKender ,

New Mexico was named such before Mexico was named. The Spaniards named a much larger territory that encompassed all of the current state of New Mexico, New Mexico. A couple centuries later the Mexican people revolted and gained their independence, and named the country Mexico in 1821

Well, but New York is actually named after the duke of York

Edit: New York, New York City and Albany were all named after James II king of England and Ireland who was also James VII of Scottland, because before he became king he was duke of York and duke of Albany.
