I still don’t understand what r/place is /:

dneaves ,

Essentially, there is a massive pixel-divided canvas. It starts out pure-white.

You are allowed to place one single pixel of a certain subset of colors every x minutes (I don’t remember how often, somewhere between 5 minutes to an hour).

Your pixel(s) can be overridden by any other user who places their pixel on your space after you place yours.

Some people come together to form collaborative art, messages, etc. (As seen here).

In the past, there have been countries’ flags, a giant spreading black void, hidden Among Us beans, and many fandom-specific and subreddit-specific images.

Don’t forget to mention paid reddit employees like /u/chtorr can bypass the limit and just place pixels as fast as they want to censor wrong think

Thanks for explaining it. I had a vague idea via context clues it was something like that.

lemmy.fmhy.ml?

Edit: I mean this one isn’t gone forever, they’re just gonna have to get a new domain. I’m guessing it’s Vlemmy like someone else already said.

.ml top-level domain got taken back by the Mali Government “.ml” stands for Mali

Edit: lemmy.ml is still up either because the Mali Government haven’t gotten to them yet (lemmy.ml is after fmhy.ml in alphabetical order) or maybe they paid for the domain instead of getting a free domain like lemmy.fmhy.ml did.

Korne127 ,
@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

What do you mean with taken back? Don’t they need to… give it away for someone to get a ML domain?
And what about vlemmy?

jonne ,

The rules set by the registrar are that any ml domain needs to be used for something relating to Mali. Presumably you could run a Lemmy instance that has a focus on Malian content and keep using the domain within the rules, but the way Lemmy.ml was using it was obviously not.

Monologue , (edited )
@Monologue@lemmy.zip avatar

@jonne is right about the .ml part, as for vlemmy, one day it just stopped existing. nobody knows why. some people are theorising that the admin did not want to moderate and shut the instance down.

bdonvr ,

They say that. But lemmy/the fediverse really doesn’t allow domain name changes…

Imgonnatrythis , in Hmm I wonder what they think of the CEO of reddit?

Looks like the Russians now wiped it. And. Made it all white as they threatened to. Or perhaps mods did?

anolemmi ,
@anolemmi@lemmi.social avatar

Nope this is exactly how they ended it last year. They eventually change it so you can only place white pixels, no conspiracy here.
