Russia has declared war against Europe and will not stop until the last European is dead.

Wow this is news to me when did this happen

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Can we please stop overusing the word genocide

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Yes, correct. Now Saddam Hussein on the other hand…

Edit: oh you’re one of the hexbear people, jesus you people are insufferable

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Saddam Hussein didn’t literally genocide kurdish people? Not saying that justifies a country halfway across the world to brutally occupy them, but it’s not like that didn’t happen.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

In the former instance there was an actual concerted effort to specifically murder people of a certain minority. In the latter there was a misguided attempt to squash an insurgency and build a new government at all costs. This is documented history and I can only assume you’ve been drooling on some communist furry subs for the past decade and just left adolescence. You can’t just change word’s definitions for your own childish deranged goals.

Did I say I think we should have invaded Iraq and Afghanistan?

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Yes this is me, thank you for advertising my accurate comment. China is indeed targeting and concentrating minorities into camps. Words have meanings.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Thank you for your well informed comment, the whole thing was indeed a clusterfuck and you know more than me. What are you doing on that godforsaken instance?

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

You’re agreeing with my comment and have 10 upvotes but mine has 2? Curious

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

I don’t think the war was justified.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Not saying that

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Can we just emulate the rules that the torrenting subreddits use? They still exist after years.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Fuck russia but do we really need to be supporting a proxy war at the moment? Why is Ukraine so important to us?

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

I don’t know were they?

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

We’re not a world police and shouldn’t be acting like this and we very suspiciously only help very specific countries enforce their independence

The US just invested more than $1 billion into carbon removal / The move represents a big step in the effort to suck CO2 out of the atmosphere—and slow down climate change. (archive.ph)

I recall the biggest direct air capture facility ever made in like, Norway?, only being able to capture about a few seconds worth of our yearly carbon output lol

What’s wrong with Jenkins? Works pretty great for automated scripts that need to run on a schedule, but I imagine you and this post specifically mean in reference to CI/CD

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Ah man, yeah I use it for a much more constrained and very narrow use case. We only use GitHub actions for CI/CD, it can be clunky itself in some aspects but otherwise works great.

Multiple hour builds dear god 😵‍💫

What are you an Army general? I kinda would prefer the government not give any more reason for a nuclear strike by Russia. Which is absolutely where we’re trending if America starts dropping pretenses and begins directly arming incursions into Russian borders.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Okay armchair army general, I guess we’re going to nuclear war against a country on another continent that we’ve not technically declared war with because of your expert geopolitical analyst.

Welcome to the old Internet. Decentralization is good in a way, people will have to try harder instead of having everything spoon fed to them by Google.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

I guess I didn’t exactly mean it as elitist gatekeeping, I see it more like people are being abandoned by major websites and this is the result.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

The two biggest ones I know of are startrek.website for trekkies and blahaj for all things trans/lgbtq. But even those don’t see to have much activity. We need better advertisement to smaller communities somehow.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

I agree with you that India doesn’t need to take sides, but I’m pretty sure Russian/West cooperation had been increasingly positive since the cold war ended, right until Putin decided he wanted to be an imperialist again. The West didn’t make him invade a sovereign, non-threatening country.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Where do you people come from

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

How dare you advocate for national stability through hard times

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

A tankies one weakness… he’ll never recover.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

They’re both bad

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

I felt like it was working briefly on my instance and now it’s not again…

Just checked the issues and I don’t see anything about context for the latest version. I think the devs are unaware.

I had to look up this road, it goes right by Stonehenge in England. Absolutely wild.

12.3 Billion Miles Away: NASA Has Lost Communication With Voyager 2 Spacecraft (scitechdaily.com)

NASA’s Voyager 2 has lost communication with Earth due to an unintentional shift in its antenna direction. The next programmed orientation adjustment on October 15 is expected to restore communication, while Voyager 1 continues to operate as usual....

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Because they’re low orbit communication satellites that require a lot of fuel to maintain said orbit, and are designed to deorbit pretty quickly so as to not pollute LEO with junk?

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

As site_aggregates table getting 1500 rows updated on every single new comment

Is this accurate?

astral_avocado , (edited )
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Huh? I’m not an instance operator (yet). I was actually asking you a question, does this actually happen? Have you seen this on your own instance?

Was hoping to get some discussion going on this.

Edit: do you have any example logs from your postgres instance demonstrating this?

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

I had similar issues, I joined a small Mastodon instance and for some reason couldn’t see comments or amounts of boosts. I guess it was just misconfigured

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

There’s a script for instance operators to run to fix that but I don’t have the link on me

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

There are a few threads I’ve seen happen – and instigated – where I was overwhelmingly downvoted by tankies yelling at me about “anglo/western fascism” and denying the uighur genocide. They defend the Chinese government with a fervor that easily marks them as tankies. It’s a real problem.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Yes. It seems to be a propaganda echo chamber they’ve placed themselves in where they wholesale distrust any western/European media and 100% trust all Chinese/Russian state media. They full on defend Russia and China as a core part of their political ideology.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Lmao

astral_avocado , (edited )
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Lemmygrad absolutely seething at all the blatant orientalism in this thread 😂

Edit: lemmygrad.ml admins got my boy above and rewrote his comment. He’s now in a reeducation camp, everyone pour one out for him.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

How dare anyone mock someone who indefinitely inters minorities for “cultural reeducation”

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Oh my god you’re right! I almost forgot the West does bad things too! I guess that exonerates China and I’ll take your word that a CIA affiliated newspaper managed to confirm they stopped concentrating minorities en mass.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Please just let me go to my local CVS and get this. I’ve considered trying to trick a vet into giving me the one they give dogs (that was originally developed and used for humans but taken off the market for total bullshit reasons) but easier said than done.

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

You’d be surprised at how many imbeciles a simple step like this will weed out. Lotta unqualified people applying to everything

astral_avocado ,
@astral_avocado@programming.dev avatar

Those onion layers don’t add up to nothing… also I’ve heard it’s under constant attack. Plus not enough people running relays and exit nodes.

It is confusing, Tor is an excellent privacy tool if used properly (don’t log in to stuff), but I guess it’s still a technical hurdle to most. Probably also from a lack of marketing.

I think in countries where the government is decidedly more authoritarian it’s more known. On my relay right now I see a ton of russian and a smaller amount of German connections.
