Yes? But that’s already explicitly warned about.

At work I had to fill out a form which threats to my health could impact me. Next to chemicals or radiation, working at a desk for more than x hours a day was also listed as a potential source of bodily harm.

fidodo ,

Exactly. Saying it’s a problem when playing video games doesn’t mean that it isn’t a problem anywhere else. For office jobs specifically, there is already plenty of awareness being spread and most offices give out onboarding material that gives tips on stretches you can do and on how to have a more ergonomic setup.

…I thought we all just stopped having apps the Home Screen when we could put them in the library and unclutter everything.

WarmSoda ,

That’s what I do. My home screen only has the time and weather on it. The next two screens have folders.

hibsen ,

Thank you, I thought I was nuts for a minute.

WarmSoda ,

I mean you still could be. I’m not a professional.

BReel ,

Yeah I have almost no apps on my Home Screen. Just one page of widgets, and 3 pinned to the bottom.

Otherwise if I want an app I just use spotlight. Quick swipe down and the first letter or 2 of any app and I’m in. I almost never touch the App Library.

This prob comes from using spotlight so much on Mac as well though.

hibsen ,

I hadn’t considered the connection, but now that you mention it I use Spotlight pretty much exclusively on my Mac too. Hopefully they don’t mess that feature up in the future or I’m going to have to learn how to manually organize things.

tyler ,

lol yeah I literally use Spotlight for everything, it’s way faster the majority of the time.

Bytemeister ,

You’ve just moved the same problem somewhere else if you do that.

I run a “main” home screen with Clock, Calendar, Weather and Alerts, then the next one is apps I commonly use, separated into folders, tools, photography, entertainment, comms, MFA, and then the next screen is my email.

hibsen ,

Eh, the default organization they put on the App Library doesn’t offend me. I did add a widget for Reminders and another for Music though.

This woman isn’t old old I’m pretty sure. Just someone who has spent way too much time in the sun over the years with no adequate skin protection. 50s I’d guess

dingus ,

Most old people don’t look like this. This woman has had some sort of chronic addiction to tanning. I’ve only seen someone once that looked like this in my nearly 30 years on this planet. I’ve seen plenty of old people. They don’t generally look like this.

DrBob ,

Old people with a deep tan look like this.

But even so, why are people so quick to jump on her for what is clearly a choice? I don’t like nose rings or ear plugs so I don’t have them. So her aesthetic is not what you would choose. Fine. Don’t do it.

merthyr1831 , to memes in I'm giving them a year until lifetime licenses start to mean nothing.

even if they keep lifetime licenses for now, it’s blatantly obvious how Canva plans to use Embrace, Extend, Extinguish to move people to a subscription service for newer releases.

If adobe can do it with Photoshop et al. without losing its brand reputation, then Affinity will follow suit in due course.

Ajen ,

Yep, they’ll probably stop updating the Affinity product and launch a new product line with annual subscriptions. Probably cloud-based.

merthyr1831 ,

I was more expecting Affinity to integrate and replace features with Canva until a subscription is all but required for basic functionality.

My dad worked on an assembly line making vacuum tubes. After that he was a calculator repairman for most of his life.

Calculator Repairman.

An entire life that is obsolete now. Because we no longer do much of the drudgery of assembly lines; we have machines that do it. Calculators (and other things) that used to require an entire infrastructure to keep running are now cheap and disposable.

Why can’t a high school graduate raise a family of four and buy a house? Because this isn’t that world. We’ve eliminated a lot of the jobs the middle class used to do.

Not on purpose, just because.

whats up with that.

does everyone really want a huge suv instead or are we being gaslighted.

spicytuna62 ,
@spicytuna62@lemmy.world avatar

That’s all they want to sell is trucks and SUVs. Ford doesn’t even make a car in the US anymore, except the Mustang. The Fiesta and Focus are just gone. They really tarnished the 3rd gen Focus name with that DCT. But trucks and SUVs just make them more money. There are only three choices of minivan here (Odyssey, Sienna, and Carnival) and if you want a wagon, you can buy a Volvo V60. But I’ve never seen one in the wild. Maybe the German luxury brands also sell a wagon here, but if they do, I have no idea they exist. Most of the time, when I see a wagon, it’s 20+ years old.

The US also has this fear culture that’s been going on at least since the 90s when SUVs really started to take off. I gotta be bigger because bigger is safer. That might be true when you run a red and cream a family of 4 in a Corolla, but most accidents involve a single car, and large trucks and SUVs are horrendous when they’re the only vehicle involved.

I could fit so much stuff and friends/family in it and the gas mileage was heaps better than an suv (not amazing but better).
I wish there were more out there being made.

Now I’m driving a Nissan leaf and when I got it titled it was listed as a station wagon which I thought was funny.

I don’t get why people always bring up the “drama” of the bubble color on iphone texts. That "drama"was overblown. I’ve never met anyone who actually cares if another person’s using a different type of phone than them. Those people have got to be such a small minority of the population (and likely have a huge overlap with the ones that are just crap people already.) At this point bringing up the bubble colors is just a convenient way to fill out a dull argument.

Alk ,

I’ve seen people get legitimately bullied for it. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it’s a minority among all demographics.

tophneal ,

It’s utterly despicable that you’ve witnessed this happen, and I ask out of genuine interest: how widespread have you seen this bullying?

Alk ,

It’s not the majority of interactions but it was common enough in high school and college that it became a VERY decisive topic. It seemed the Apple users who didn’t bully anyone were unaware it was happening, and the android users, whether or not they were bullied, were always mad about the bullying, which, from the perspective of average iPhone users, made it feel like android users were constantly nagging them, which just widened the cultural gap between the two groups.

So if someone who had an iphone learned you used android, there’s an equal chance you’d get someone who was a bully for no reason or someone who assumed you were combative about it and either way looked down on you for it. It was an unfortunate situation.

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

my issue is that in mixed platform group messages sometimes some messages don’t go through to some people in the group completely at random, nearly always when plans are trying to be made. it’s entirely Apple’s refusal to make imessages compatible with whatever android is using. Not about to shame the people who have androids because of it though, and it’s certainly not about the color of the text.

BCsven ,

Didn’t apple recently add thr open standard for messaging , RTS? or someting that Android has moved to

Donebrach ,
@Donebrach@lemmy.world avatar

IDK, all i know is that group messaging with iMessages between iOS and android is still garbage. Its an easy fix though it its really causing issues between people: just use a 3rd party app.

BCsven ,
smileyhead ,

As long as you are willing to use Google Messages and eventually go full circle.

cm0002 ,

You’re probably an adult, the whole blue/green bubble is targeted at high school student demographics, ya know, the same demographic who LOVES pointless drama and bullying over stupid shit like the color of a text bubble

Apple likes this setup because by the time you leave HS you’ll probably have switched to iPhone due to peer pressure and are unlikely to switch later because “it’s just what I’ve always used” and like you’ve noted no longer care about the blue/green bubble debate

Zangoose ,

I agree with your point but imo the drama doesn’t even just come from high school kids. I’m a year away from graduating undergrad and still wondering when (or if) people are going to grow up about it. Even then, full grown adults do it about as often as people my age in my experience. Honestly some of the worst offenders when it comes to green bubble shaming have been my family members on the older side who think everyone should just get an iPhone and refuse to use anything other than iMessage.

Top Left – More or less the default position, sensible enough, if a bit naive. Nothing wrong with this.

Top Right – Having knowledge is a good thing, and so is making decisions based on sound risk-benefit analysis.

Bottom Right – Well, at least it’s an informed decision. Just don’t try to pass off the risk on someone else if it backfires.

Bottom Left – Oooouuuuh, you don’t want to be in this quadrant, trust me…
