Dude, you gotta come south! Even the bad slaw here is edible, unless it’s made by damn yankees that moved here.

Like, maybe you wouldn’t like it, but slaw varies so much by recipe and by ingredients quality that it never surprises me that someone hates it until they try a different version, but still hates the original version they thought of as slaw.

Like, even KFC slaw, which is mid tier at best, I can just skip the damn chicken and have that. And that ain’t good slaw.

Like, damn. You get some nice, peppery cabbage, shred it fine and do more than add mayo, and you’ll be at edible for sure. Maybe not something you get seconds of, but it’s okay enough.

I fucking love some fucking slaw. Cole slaw is pretty much my favorite slaw, but there’s vinegar slaws too, and even yogurt slaws. And damn, you get some bbq slaw, all vinegary and with plenty of red pepper in it, there isn’t anything better on pit smoked bbq. Like, damn! Whether it’s on the bun with it, or as a side with a bbq plate, it cuts through the fats as a palate cleanser, and still manages to be worth eating on its own.

And some yogurt slaw? Fuck me running! It’s more like a fruit salad with a lot of cabbage added tbh, but it works. Carrots, raisins, and finely sliced apples, some salt and pepper. You’ll slap yo mama.

Oh! And you get some fucking prime-ass cole slaw, you grab a biscuit, you slap some fried chicken on that motherfucker and top it with slaw. Gods damn, boys, that’s the fucking lunch if champions right there!

I am fucking enthusiast about slaw.

You would be honestly very uncomfortable if you knew how much sensitive information is stored on the desktop of someone as an excel spreadsheet.

manny_stillwagon ,

I used to work for municipal government in a major American city. The database for the entire city downloaded query results to your desktop formatted as Excel 95. Still does.

At one point I had to install special R packages because someone retired and I was tasked with taking over the worksheet they had been maintaining forever and the usual R packages to read data from Excel can’t parse Excel 5.0.

There was also someone in the office who still used a typewriter on the regular.

manny_stillwagon ,

Yup, I had someone print off Excel sheets, manually highlight and write in corrections, and them bring the pages over to my desk to have me fix them in the file.

I also once had the city reject a report I submitted because the width of the columns in the Excel file were different from the previous year and they wanted to print it all off on one page.

Pure hell

thebuoyancyofcitrus ,

Some number of years ago, I was an intern within a department of state government. I was tasked with helping to enrich their databases. So they sent over an Excel file. I did my thing and added new columns, then I had to send it back over to someone within each division so they could do the data entry. To my horror, when I went to visit one of the division heads, I saw their admin sitting at a computer with a printout of my changes sitting on a document holder next to the screen…manually typing geographic coordinates into a data entry form.

Barzaria ,

Thank you for the awesomeness that is the script. If I might ask a question: why is the user agent Windows 10 if this is a bash script? I’m genuinely curious and I don’t know why.I imagine this might be WSL. You did mention it was an old script so maybe it had something to do with that?

ReveredOxygen ,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

It explicitly sets it to that to help disguise the fact that it’s a script rather than a browser

wuphysics87 ,

That’s a very good question. It was a few years ago, but it’s running right now on my computer on Linux.

Codename_goose ,
@Codename_goose@sh.itjust.works avatar

I can confirm that the script still works, but sadly the site owner of Vim has removed the file from the server. The script sees a file link but will download nothing. When testing the script with just NES, it will see a game, but will throw an error of “remote files name has no length”, so going forward you could test via a vpn and see if they adjusted their files to be available via a country that doesn’t care, or they just haven’t gotten around to cleaning up their file directory list post removal.

P.S. the script showed that 23 field failed to download so one can assume those files were the one Nintendo decided to have them remove.

wuphysics87 ,

There are some gaps in the numbers. That could be the case. Was it for all of the ones you tried to download?

Codename_goose , (edited )
@Codename_goose@sh.itjust.works avatar

Every section had missing downloads. But with some web inspection, I found some interesting obfuscation using what I think is JavaScript on the web pages that “used” to hold the download links, for the files that were requested to be removed. If we can figure out how to reverse the code to reveal the link again we could grab (assuming they are still on the server) the files manually.

If you want to chat about this I’m on matrix

WarmApplePieShrek ,

what is the use of saying that, if we don’t know your matrix name?

@codname_goose:matrix.org

dRLY ,
@dRLY@lemmy.ml avatar

Not surprised, I think a lot of sites tend to start removing things as they are posting about being made to do so. As I imagine that having them still up after posting about the removals would likely cause a surge in downloads. Not sure what kinds of things the sites might have to (or be compelled to if formally sued) provide to lawyers/courts. Would (at least to my non-understanding of processes) be that many more “infractions” to add to a “damages” total. Even if none of my assumptions are an issue. It is just like any other data issue. The worst time to try and get copies for a backup is after shit happens/fails. Though I imagine that at least for 8-bit and 16-bit games, there are plenty of copies on plenty of sites and torrents.

princessnorah ,
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The “user-agent” part of the script is the same as a browser’s user agent. So it’s trying to emulate a common user so the site doesn’t know it’s a script, and there’s not a more common user than a Windows one, so it’s lying about it.
