On Twitter, yes. There were tons of people for whom that was their only social media and they thought it was great. Not so much love for the admin as the community of course, and generally people were fine with the software.
If you build it people will complain, and engineers have always complained about the product they own/built. We also tend to lump communities by the worst subset of it’s members. Facebook: racist boomers, Instagram: Fake influencers, Reddit: Angry nerds, 4Chan: Really angry racist nerds. It’s just human nature to focus on the bad in general. Twitter actually used to be widely well received overall (especially when they added in those fact checks that Musk removed). Calling it a “hellhole” is subjective and was not the opinion of the overall population until it actually went to shit, otherwise it wouldn’t have been the preferred platform for many politician and news outlets world-wide.

What?! You are remembering that story wrong. She was a dolphin trainer or some scientist and jerked of the dolphin because she thought the dolphin was depressed and lonely.
That experiment was proposed by Carl Sagan, though I’m reasonably certain he meant that we should inject the humans with LSD to learn dolphin languages, not the other way around.

Sagan was interested in Lilly’s dolphin experiments because he was interested in developing inter species communication techniques, because he was really interested in how we could communicate with aliens.
Lilly was the psychonaut. He invented the sensory deprivation tank during the dolphin experiments, would use it on LSD to try to telepathically communicate with them, and gave the dolphins LSD a few times. Years after the dolphin experiments he went kind of nuts taking high dose ketamine and trying to communicate with aliens.
Haha, read his book. He wrote about kholing himself and in that state would receive communications from the aliens that are in a higher dimension and would give him instructions to change the course of events in this world to save humanity… Or something like that.

It turns out they do this too in places where they keep dolphins in captivity. Like with theme parks that do shows with them. Most likely to calm them down and so they can keep them in smaller places backstage when there are no shows going on.
It’s not successful though. Like, maybe if your measure of success is that it’s usable, sure. But no other OSes have adopted it. Not even Ubuntu’s downstream OSes like Mint or Pop_OS!.
Users don’t like it, vendors don’t like it, other OS maintainers don’t like it. I’m not sure why that would be considered successful.
I learned my lesson about ‘lifetime’ updates with a Tom Tom GPS unit, from the late '90s, maybe early 2000s. After about 4 or 5 years I couldn’t install the latest map updates, so I contacted CS. They said, “Oh yeah, lifetime means the time of the expected life of the unit, which is 4.5 years. We don’t support that model anymore. Any other questions?”
At least there’s choice with Android. I’d much rather it was possible for FOSS phones to actually exist but in the meantime the lock-in with Apple is an absolute non-starter, as is basically everything about their UX philosophy.
It really just depends on if you prefer customization or reliability.
For example, I’m an apple boi because I like that every app in the store is made specifically for an iPhone (which is easy for devs to do since there’s little variation). It leads to better maintained and performing apps because devs can optimize for the device it’s running on.
On android, you have way more choices, which some people prefer. But for myself, I get really annoyed when I launch an app and it fills 95% of my screen, but not all of it, because my phone is slightly taller then the 2000 other variations out there. It’s much harder for a dev to optimize their app when there are so many variables to account for on android.
Neither phone (or company for that fact) is better. They serve different demographics of users is all.

Im running an android phone from 2016 with android 13 and last week security patches. Smooth as silk, no google, no ads, battery lasts 10h SOT. That’s the reason why ill never switch to Apple as daily driver (I have 1 provided by my company)
Google is a bit better, Google allows you to both side load and unlock the bootloader. On those 2 things alone gives them at least a couple notches above Apple. Not to mention Android is designed around allowing you to customize things.
That being said, Google isn’t some savior, they’re still a giant corporation doing giant corporation things

Iirc the main dude is a vet with ptsd. If my partner told me he’s hit and started shooting in a direction i would at the very least also take cover and try and figure out the situation. They had a suspect in the car so they both freaked and thought the suspect was shooting at them. Not to excuse them, and fuck whoever allowed a ptsd vet to have a job that uses a gun. He should have had more resources to help him with his ptsd and to find alternative jobs that maybe don’t trigger it like that. Cops are trained to always be on edge over here because they never know who might have a gun, it’s stupid he was allowed in.
And people use his PTSD as an excuse. Dumb fuck veteran who is scared of being killed the way he killed others opens fire in a community and is lucky he didn’t murder an innocent person.
