I hate this truck as much as the next guy but, isn’t this what any and every car looks like after a fire?

Empricorn ,

It’s… 1 year old. You don’t often find so many reports, news stories, and images of a brand-new $80,000+ vehicle deteriorated or self-immolated a single year later.

ch00f ,

EVs tend to look like https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/e672558e-6f1e-45cd-9330-d07f81d03cd3.jpeg this after a battery fire, and the Cybertruck is easily the most hated vehicle ever made. I wouldn’t assume that this one caught itself on fire.

Empricorn ,

I’m sorry, are you suggesting that people are spending 6 figures purchasing, then destroying these vehicles… as a meme??

hemko ,

No but could be a fire unrelated to the trucks electronics, or one that was well contained either by design or more likely a lucky accident

But yes I’ve also seen videos of people shooting at cybertrucks so who tf knows maybe???

ch00f ,

In case you’re not being sarcastic, Whistlindiesel…

But they’ve also been the target of some vandalism.

ech ,

Continue to stay away from youtube. It’s a dark place.

Empricorn ,

I think you replied to the wrong comment.

ech ,

I figure if you’re not aware of the stupid “pranks” influencers are pulling on youtube, you just don’t visit, and that’s probably in your best interest.

SLVRDRGN ,

Is there a reason the car looks like it’s giving up its physical body and becoming a spectral?

ch00f ,

Water. Best way to put out an EV fire is to keep dousing it with water until it cools down enough to not be on fire.

deranger ,

I try not to go to Reddit so much, but the CyberStuck sub is pretty good and not replicated elsewhere. There are so many problems with these vehicles it’s astonishing. They aren’t nearly as capable as they were touted to be, either.

halcyoncmdr ,
@halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

You also don’t have a ton of idiots doing stupid things to make their vehicle have issues intentionally usually either.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of YouTube videos of people purposely putting the vehicle in extreme situations and situations it wasn’t intended for. Not to mention the ones just doing it because “Fuck Elon”, after paying $100k for the vehicle, because they’ll get the money back from YouTube ads on videos milking it as much as possible.

I’m not saying all the videos are that, many are legitimate reviews and tests. But a lot are also purposely trying to damage it.

I developed a taste for IPAs purely through Stockholm syndrome

agamemnonymous , (edited ) to lemmyshitpost in 7% ABV
@agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works avatar

IPAs are an acquired taste, but the longer you drink craft beers the more likely you are to acquire it. As your palate becomes more refined, you start to appreciate different hop characteristics. Hop varieties have a wide range of flavors: floral, grassy, piney, citrusy, tropical, skunky, etc. If you’re making a “proper” beer, a nuanced hop schedule is the easiest way to create a complex flavor. IPAs have probably the highest flavor variety of any style, and most of them are pretty good once you can appreciate hops.

Except anything with Simcoe, that stuff tastes like cat piss.

dejected_warp_core ,

I’ve tried to enjoy IPAs, really. I’m not discounting the role of interesting terpenes and flavonoids here, but the raw in-your-face excessive bitterness of IPA-level hops pushes all that great stuff so far from the stage of my experience, that it’s all left waiting in the lobby to get seated. For me, it’s like someone mixed LaCroix, light beer, and a drop of dish soap in a glass. Every time.

agamemnonymous ,
@agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works avatar

Try some West Coast IPAs. Pacific hops have less of that soapy bitterness with some pleasant tropical fruit notes. Galaxy is a particularly “juicy” variety, common in IPAs with “Space”, “Cosmic”, and other similar words in the name.

jewbacca117 ,

Other way around. West coast IPAs tend to be more bitter and resiny. NE IPAs are the hazy ones. Tend to be much fruitier and juicier.

agamemnonymous ,
@agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works avatar

Both can be quite juicy, though you’re right. I should have focused on Pacific hops rather than West Coast styles, since they do feature resiny qualities in their fat hop schedules.

Rather than look at style, look for specific hops: Galaxy, Amarillo, Azaca, etc.

tacosplease ,

Drink IPA without letting any air into your mouth and keep your tongue somewhat pressed against the roof of your mouth. It seems to block off the taste buds on top of the tongue and lets the beer wash around the sides of the tongue instead. This reduces the in-your-face bitterness and allows the secondary flavors to be noticed. At least that’s how I started appreciating IPAs.

Jayb151 ,

I was with you until the last sentence… From that, it’s obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about. /s

Yea… Microsoft has a history of doing this a lot… their “concession” to being a large software developer is that each version of an app seems to have an entirely different team that develops independently from the other platform versions (the best you can say is that they occasionally borrow good features from one another).

I recently got forcefully switched to “New Teams” at work which is a strict downgrade and doesn’t support half the shit the browser app (which, as a reminder, is a weird Frankenstein of calendar and email) supports. It also absolutely bombards users with unnecessary notifications that need to be individually muted.

Never have I appreciated Google more than when I was forced from GSuite to SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Visio, etc…

spongebue ,

I love how new Teams doesn’t even have a contacts list for chat anymore, it’s just your most recent chats. And if you search for someone, any recent group chats with that person show up first so you may still have to scroll to find that person’s chat. Oh, and we store documents on Teams so if I want to switch between looking through the document repository and chat I still have to do a whole bunch of clicks between the two.

I don’t fault them for when my project manager tags @everyone on the group chat with an important message saying “good morning and happy Monday” though. I wish I were kidding.

rbesfe ,
Sparky ,

I like how the teams team wasted hours making a new notification popup system instead of using the default system on the user’s os. They wasted time to just make a worse thing that’s also buggy. If users send too many messages at once, you end up having notification popups stacking on top of each other until it completely fills your screen.

Fiivemacs , to programmer_humor in One Note enshitification

Microsoft doesn’t know how to make/manage/deploy software at all. They are clueless to their own products and the problems THEY cause, and their information the public is ALWAYS outdated and a convoluted mess of bullshit…but it’s somehow out fault for not knowing

take a drive by the Tesla service center in Pensacola… you can see a bunch of them parked there.

shalafi ,

Hah! First one I was over near Holt off I-10. Honestly, it seemed pretty cool, guy had some low-key black graphics on it. But after seeing the fail-train these things are, they can’t look cool to me anymore.

Also, I’m practical with my purchases, or try to be. I have a beat up 2004 F150 that actually runs, can get wet and hauls 5x what a Cybertruck can. I get buying stuff for the cool factor, but what’s the use case here?!

Rentlar , to pics in [OC]One of the only cybertrucks I've ever seen

Yikes. Appears that this one might have caught fire?

partial_accumen ,

I looks like there was fire, but it doesn’t look like it came from where the battery is. The battery runs from front to back on the bottom of the vehicle. This looks like the fire was only at the front. So perhaps whatever was impacted caught on fire but the battery never ignited perhaps?

expatriado ,

the battery can provide the energy to start a fire somewhere else in the vehicle via short circuit connection

nomous ,

Reaching a bit there, what’s located at the right/passenger side that would burn?

Noodle07 ,

A Samsung tablet

partial_accumen ,

Tesla’s have a pyrofuse that blows on impact detection which disconnects the battery:

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/a40448a5-4ac4-46dd-8d45-bf5c98c26084.png

Trilobite ,
__dev ,

Not sure what you’re expecting that fuse to do when the battery is on fire from crash damage?

halcyoncmdr ,
@halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world avatar

The High Voltage battery has a pyrofuse that blows to isolate the battery in case of a crash.

Theoretically I guess the 12V system could short circuit, just like any other vehicle. Except there can’t be any gasoline spilled for a short to ignite.

partial_accumen ,

Theoretically I guess the 12V system could short circuit, just like any other vehicle. Except there can’t be any gasoline spilled for a short to ignite.

And modern Tesla vehicles, like the Cybertruck don’t use a standard car lead acid car battery (which would have 48Ah or so). Instead they use a 16v small lithium battery (which has only 6.9Ah). Further, this battery system has short protection built into it with an auto resetting breaker.

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/c3eb3a3d-1fee-43bd-b81c-b4d62d2104fc.png

So this battery, with its significantly less energy stored, has less chance of fire from a short than a standard car battery.

EldritchFeminity ,

It’s impossible to tell from a single photo, but it looks like the fire was possibly localized to the wheel-well. I can’t think of anything that might ignite in there, though.

aniki ,

Brakes yo. They get HOT

papabobolious ,

on EVs as far as I understand the brakes are barely used due to regenerative braking, so they should not be running hot unless the car is being driven very hard.

This is generic knowledge and not necessarily applicable to the Cybertruck however.

aniki ,

The system is only so useful and the cybertrucks absolutely have a hydrolic system with rotors and pads:

tesla.com/…/GUID-6DD1AA33-2FE0-44B0-93EA-17CF5BB8…

It’s completely disabled “significantly limited” limited when towing.

papabobolious ,

I never denied the presence of brakes, I just mean for regular driving they are barely used, mostly with hard braking.

aniki ,

I can’t think of anything that might ignite in there, though.

Brakes yo. They get HOT

papabobolious ,

They will only get hot if they are used and I am implying without hard braking or hard driving they are barely used, so they are unlikely to achieve very high temperatures.

If the vehicle is being driven hard or jerky however that is a different story. Its very heavy and probably heats them up quite a lot when driven hard.

All of this is of course speculation based on what I know about regenerative brakes and regular disc brakes.

foofiepie ,

Spot on if it has regen braking. I haven’t had to change brake discs/shoes for 5 years.

I used to cry in my car during lunch. If it’s because of your work, please find a different job. Good luck!

Kyrgizion OP ,

My place of work used to be downright awesome. Pulled me out of some deep pits when I first ended up there.

Few years ago the owner/CEO sold his 51% shares to another company, and it’s steadily been downhill from there. No more bonuses. No budget for fun stuff. Openings never get filled, but no raises for the remainers either. All the really top people (management & dev) left, most of the ones who stayed weren’t that great (including myself). And then they started filling positions, including the CEO, from the “mother company”.

On paper, it’s still awesome. In practice, it’s anything but.

Took me the better part of two decades to finally land a decent job and I feel like I’m back at square one with nothing to show for it.
