Fontawesome and its consequences have been a disaster for web development.

AI+

Absolutely not. This thing is going to perform horribly because half the processor die is dedicated to something nobody’s gonna use.

If this were a business laptop then I’d understand adding AI. But this is a gaming handheld, how the hell will this help?

Microsoft starts bundling Windows 11 with its 'PC optimizer' app in some regions (www.neowin.net)

PC optimizers are not a new concept, and they have been around for quite a while. Nowadays, many consider them unnecessary, but having an official program made by Microsoft that is capable of (allegedly) speeding up your PC may sound quite appealing....

Oh so they’re just straight up including malware with windows now. Cool.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

So statistically speaking, at least some of the cool kids are doing it?

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Linux is about on-par with windows xp/7 as it stands, and it has been for a while. The reason people haven’t switched is OEM and software support.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Same honestly. Like it was a hunk of junk that didn’t work half the time, but I think people kinda forget that the scope was pretty ambitious. Being able to scan people’s bodies and get each limb’s position in 3D, and to do so in many different lighting conditions and room setups, is stuff we still barely have working today even with AI.

Like don’t get me wrong, the tech was jank as fuck, but as a kid it was genuinely really cool.

@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Applies to snakes as well.

Slight tangent, but it always cracks me up when in movies they show a pit of venomous snakes and it’s a bunch of pythons, boas, and colubrids. Even better when they add hissing and rattling in post lol.

I don’t get why people hate semantic whitespace. The whitespace would be there anyway, and if anything it’s easier to read as long as you avoid 15 nested if statements, and you’re not using a dynamically typed abomination like python.

S-expressions are a hack because the Lisp devs didn’t know how to make an actual compiler, and instead had the users write the syntax tree for them. (For legal reasons I am being facetious).

In all honesty, I can understand the reason people love s-expressions, but to me they’re just unreadable at a glance.

So sick of the ignorance in this community. That is NOT an accurate velociraptor! The earth has FEATHERS.

Technically linux users need third party tools to even boot into a usable OS.

At this point ARM is a CISC architecture

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m a computer engineering major (still a student tbf), I’m well aware of the difference between CISC and RISC, I was making a joke.

Also, I understand your point, but you should know though that a load-store architecture and a RISC instruction set are not the same thing. The vast majority of RISC ISAs are load-store, but not all load-store architectures are RISC.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I think it’s AI unfortunately.

Either that or just regular photoshop.

I had a feeling it was a parody tbh

Yeah I don’t know why I thought my pseudointellectual comment was relevant here.

DumbAceDragon ,

That’s not what the meme is about? It’s about how everything is marketed as AI these days, even if there’s no machine learning involved whatsoever.

My favorite example

I’m conflicted on science, but math is absolutely blue.

“My laptop died before I could push these”

Not a good commit name I know, but my laptop stopped booting and I just really needed to continue from my desktop.

It’s a student project anyway.

DumbAceDragon ,

Brave is basically all of the above. I genuinely don’t get how anyone is braindead enough to fall for their “privacy” advertising.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

AI is a marketing term, the association is a deliberate choice by companies trying to market “the future”

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

A lot of vegan “alternatives” are actually really good when you know what you’re doing with them. I will take tofu or mushrooms over meat any day tbh. Problem is some people don’t know that and will just prepare tofu like it’s meat, and then wonder why their tofu tastes like shit.

Penguins have some really janky hitboxes that absolutely break the meta

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I literally just learned about it last night. A lot of it is just obvious conspiracy bullshit though. As far as I’m aware it all centers around one consultation studio being responsible for every single “woke” thing in modern games.

It’s either that or the fact that they censored someone’s camel toe in a game I haven’t heard of until last night.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m a zoomer and honestly I had no problems with it. I only failed the Michael Cera one because I didn’t notice one of the images had a secret hidden Michael Cera

DumbAceDragon ,

I have never really seen arch or gentoo unironically pitched to new users. However, I have seen new users try to use arch because they didn’t get the joke.

Lost a couple hours of work on the snap version of krita since it couldn’t save the file for some reason. Switched away from Ubuntu as a whole after that experience.

The article is just really bad tabloid garbage

  1. Does not even show the section of this bill that it is talking about
  2. Source is just “Edward Snowden said a thing on twitter” (not shitting on Snowden, he’s done some great work. I’m shitting on the article)

Honestly, fish is the only thing I hate about Garuda. The variety of commands is good, but doing any kinda scripting in it physically hurts me. Wish they kinda just stuck with a more conventional shell like zsh.

I’ve only dabbled a bit with ML art, and I am by no means an artist, but it doesn’t scratch that itch for me the same way that drawing or doing stuff in blender does. It doesn’t really feel like I’m watching my vision slowly take shape, no matter how precise I make the prompt. It kinda just feels like what it is, a transformer iterating over some random noise.

I’m also a very technical person, and for years I was stuck in that same mindset of “I’m a technical guy, I’m not cut out for art”. I was only able to get out of this slump thanks to some of my art friends, who were really helpful in pointing me in the right direction.

Learning to draw isn’t the easiest thing in the world, and trust me I’m probably as bad at it as you are, but it’s fun, and it feels satisfying.

I agree that AI has a place as another artistic medium, but I also feel like it can become a trap for people like me who think they don’t have an artistic bone in their body.

If you do feel like getting back into drawing, then as a fellow technical person I’d recommend learning blender first. It taught me some of the skills I also use in drawing, like perspective, shading, and splitting complex objects into simpler shapes. It’s also just plain fun.

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some https://twitter.com/t3dotgg/status/1777425000133468582 began https://twitter.com/___frye/status/1777432913497465082 that posts https://twitter.com/__justplaying/status/1777433986500853845 via X for iOS were...

I don’t get why he’s so stubborn on X dot com being a thing. Especially since when I hear dot com I think of the 90s or early 2000s, and specifically the dot com bubble.

x.social or x.net sound way cooler tbh.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes but to a lesser extent. The name Twitter doesn’t sound like it’s trying to be “cool internet thing” as much as X

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Cool. It should still use it though. If for nothing else than the parallelization improvements it allows.

If we stuck with the “it works fine so I’m not moving away from it” approach then we’d all still be on x11. Nvidia sucks and they should be more of a team player, but I think they were right to push for explicit sync over implicit. We should’ve been doing this from the beginning on wayland.

  1. The hack mainly targeted Debian and fedora
  2. Arch doesn’t directly link openssh to liblzma, so the hack doesn’t affect arch users.

It’s not a real slang term as far as I’m aware, it’s just a mock slang term that showed up because skibidi toilet happened to also be a meme around the time zoomer slang became a meme.

I see more posts complaining about annoying arch users than I actually see annoying arch users

That being said, hell yeah mint

Vinyls break easily and sound kinda meh, even with decent equipment. CDs have fairly good quality and are easy to store and handle. Honestly I get why people like vinyl, big discs are fun and tinkering with analog stuff is its own hobby, but when it comes to collecting I prefer CDs.
