I finished this not long ago on my steam deck. The story was engaging but the gameplay was a bit of a slog. Had to push myself to finish it but was probably worth it in the end.
I replay this game annually on my Steam deck. One of my Top 3 games of All time. The gameplay was definitely one of my favorite parts along with the story. But I can see why it wouldn’t be for everyone with how unusual it is sometimes. Have you played the second one? It goes much closer too a traditional survival horror game then the first with gameplay
I didn’t play it when it came out so it’s not carried by nostalgia (like the old Resident Evil games which have also aged badly but I still do enjoy). Will give the second one a go someday. If it’s anything like the RE remakes I’ll probably enjoy it.
I will say that I’ve only played the RE2 remake, but the entire time I was going through Alan Wake II the gameplay very reminiscent of that (at least imo)
I felt the same way, enjoyed the narrative of the first but the action felt like a bit of a chore after a while. The second one is a lot more fun from a gameplay perspective, in my opinion. Just be warned that it is pretty demanding for the steam deck
The first game is more of an interactive movie than anything. The kind of game you play on the easiest difficulty. But at least the story is engaging. Keeps you at the edge of your seat the entire time.
Alan Wake 2—on the other hand—not so much. The story is boring and dare I complain that it has too much gameplay. It feels more like a completely different franchise than a sequel. I have severe ADHD so I’m not a fan. They overcomplicated everything and removed the waypoint; I found myself constantly having to pause the game every 30 seconds or so to orient myself, and most of the time I forget what I was supposed to be doing in the first place.
People with normal brains will probably enjoy Al 2 way more than the original, but it’s not for me.
You might enjoy Bramble: The Mountain King. It’s basically a walking simulator with a good (and spooky) atmosphere and a couple of simple puzzles sprinkled in.
At my high school a noticable number of students could barely read. They got passed through from a combination of parents trying to fire people if their kid is held back and teachers who either didn’t care or couldn’t spend the one on one time to help the kid. There was no functional system in place at my school to help kids who were borderline illiterate
Depending where this is, between that and possible mental health stuff English could be their first language
It’s tragic because a lot of these people aren’t just missing competent literacy but all the skills required to understand the world around them, and even worse often those ways of understanding have been replaced with religious nonsense by the people that raised them.
Imagine trying to make sense of the world when you think scientists work like preachers and prophets simply saying whatever feels right or suits the moment.
I’m thinking someone went nuts with the Photoshop. It’s what Elon Musk thinks he looks like, and I don’t think AI would be able to get that look just the way Elon wants it.
Honest (and depressing) answer: dogs are larger and more expensive, so anyone who isn’t living on dual-income will prefer a cat. Being a woman is expensive, transitioning is expensive, being a guy who “just needs a bed and 4 walls” is cheaper, so dogs are back on the table.
Yeah you have dog lesbians (me) and cat lesbians (my wife if she wasn’t allergic). Mind you cats love me too, and I love them back. But yeah both groups exist as internal stereotypes.
Hmmm, it being wrapped in a flat usually indicates being repackaged from larger foodservice sized containers, which my own experience with West Virginia food desert grocery stores has led me to understand is common in some areas.
I’d expect fresh ground to be oily-er too, enough that stocking it upright like that wouldn’t be a great idea.
The sad part about palm oil (other than environmental) is, it blocks the taste of most foods. It's too heavy. Things just taste greasy and almost flavorless.
This was my biggest complaint about an abroad stint in the Netherlands — all the peanut butter* was JIF style/huge ingredient list. Agree completely — only acceptable ingredients are peanuts and salt.
The beer wasn’t all my style, but I could certainly appreciate it.
*“pindakaas” literally “peanut cheese,” I think because “butter” is reserved for dairy products.
I’m sure there are, but they were not available at Jumbo (or any of the other stores I went to). In the US, I generally find them at any store I go to (a long with JIF, etc. of course) — I never have to “look hard enough” to find it.
I haven’t been to the Netherlands in a while either, but at Albert Heijn they had PB made from peanuts only, and I remember there being several brands that were like this. Miles better than in other parts of Europe.
2% or less of added oils. I get natty PB as well but it’s not quite as good as a bad food. I’m 6’3” and 195 at near 40 years old, my diet is fine. Jif is probably the “worst” thing I enjoy regularly. I still maintain it’s the best PB of the commercially produced varieties.
The package isn't resealable, either. That's just shady, pricing it so high, and making the consumer pay more for resealable packaging is just next-level greed.
