My mental health is so much better than when i scrolled reddit. Everyone here is so nice and doesn’t talk like 14 year olds with an ego. Also theres front page furry porn
I also find the limited number of posts and comments keep me at a healthy level of browsing. On Reddit I could get sucked down the rabbit hole of even one post, reading comments and replying to stuff for hours. There’s really very little of value that can ever be accomplished at that depth.
I agree with this, and on top of that the lack of infinite scroll is a feature to me because it requires me to deliberately consider each post before the next page rather than just spamming downward looking for that next dopamine hit.
which is the reason why some people don’t move to it.
If the first, there are other bad/tracking/adware things that people use and the people that try to help have a helpful tone. But for windows, people that ‘try to help’ always talk in a blaming tone and act like “I’m superior than you bc i use linux”
Or if the second
Bc you need some help to figure out Linux but if the community that is supposed to help act like that would people move?
I think you can find some jerks in any community, it’s people. But I doubt that GNU/Linux enthusiasts hate people for using Windows in general. I personally a GNU/Linux user and I never hate people for using Windows.
It’s just like Reddit - they have more content, but we prefer Lemmy because of freedom. And we hate Reddit (and spez), not it’s users.
Agreed, I went on reddit recently and realized how much anxiety it used to cause me. Fuck that place. There is definitely something to their algorithm meant to make you feel that way.
Not really if you get into political talk, you will be shit talked into oblivion, and in the subject of pornography, i find the one here on lemmynsfw bland af, its mostly tje same chicks posting over and over again. But other than that I have seen before complaints from people on the lemmy.nsfw community that they are surprisingly puritan with the nsfw content allowed, and if you look for that type of content you will realize that its true, like i can think of various extreme fetishes that are banned that i rather not type here in public, but some that are more perplexing are like csncs, which its just a type of roleplay between 2 consenting adults and thats banned for some reason, and rape hentai, while i understeand while that would be controversial, its still a fetish sone people would have and its in draw form so no harm done to anyone, also some other gross stuff that nobody likes like scat or guro (drawn ofc)
Which like i said nobody whants to watch those last 2 except for the people that do and there even are comunities of those in reddit, so its very weird that there arent any equivalents here.
(Btw when i say banned i mean that they dont allow comunities that post that type of content.)
(And before you ask no im not into any of that type of the aformentioned shit)
Now you could say “well change instances”, but i heard bad things from the other ones here that do allow some of that stuff, specially the hentai focused ones, which i heard are mainly legally dubius shit and a little dangerous to go there so i rather look for porn/hentai somewhere els
First consensus is a thing. Secondly not every subjective opinion is of equal value. One opinion may be grounded in historical context, technical understanding, philosophical ideas, and other contextual viewpoints, whereas another might be as simple “I like that color”. Those are not of equivalent value.
I’m tired… I don’t have the energy to argue a simple point against all this word-salad, analytical “look how smart I am” BS anymore. You’re right. Everything you say is correct. Your opinions are facts and you’re the smartest of the smart. Congrats.
Where’s the Julia programmer that hits every one of these with @benchmark and then works for six hours to shave three nanoseconds off of the fastest one?
Most vegans in the US do not eat food that mimics meat.
Most Western butt holes cannot handle Indian food that well. The couple times I went to Indian weddings, I was clamoring for anything that would not burn my butthole. The good combined with the ridiculous amount of alcohol made the toilets cry.
The fiber is not the issue. I’m good on that. It was the spiciness that was the problem. I can handle a little bit of spice but there was pretty much no reprieve.
I’ll have you know our British digestive systems can handle almost anything from over 60 years of Indian, Pakistani, Carribbean and Mexican food. When Taco Bell arrived on our shores it was bland disappointment compared to existing burrito outlets, especially given all the hype that it apparently puts an American in the toilet for hours :(
I don’t know, that’s a stereotype that may not be true. I mean, I’ll also make fun of my culture’s lack of spice and spice tolerance, but I’m the opposite data point. I love spicy food, prepare very spicy food for my kids, and on my one trip to India had at least the spice tolerance of my Indian co-workers. We’re not all white bread and mayonnaise
“spicy food” doesnt mean the same thing depending on cuisine. Different types of heat are used in different dishes.
I can eat mexican meals for days and have no issues, cholula and all.
Meanwhile mild indian is usually a treat that sets off a small bomb in my gut.
Also, people make fun of americans like we dont have fuckloads of hot sauce brands all over the place. We live next door to mexico, guys, we have plenty of spicy cuisine.
It’s why you keep calling the early bird people at 8pm for work stuff and giving them shit for not working late until they get the message that them calling you at 8am is just as annoying.
It’s biology. When winter comes and we switch daylight saving times again, I wake up an hour earlier according to the clock while walking up at the same sun time the entire year.
Communism, especially Marxist-Leninism, seems to require some sort of benevolent dictator who is willing to work towards destroying their own power, which obviously never seems to happen. ML theories state the need for a Vanguard state, which is a dictatorship that is supposed to be there to simply enforce the rule of the working class until a time when it is no longer needed.
So the idea of dictatorship is built into the major form of communism that has been tried, basically. One of the main problems with this is that the steps a nation has to take before it gets to “true communism” in ML theory are ripe for abuse, and hard to get through without someone corrupt seizing power.
I think there are some good theories in Marx writings, it’s just the methods for attempting to implement it definitely need to be reexamined because they don’t work.
This is where I tend to disagree with Marx as well.
Capital is a fantastic book full of scathing and prophetic analyses of capitalism and its innate degradation of value and connection.
The Communist Manifesto is a book with some good ideas but some implementation that I find flawed. And that’s not a knock on Marx-- critiquing problems is a significantly easier prospect than offering solutions.
But a lot of Marx’s proposals for the implementation of Communism are rooted in authoritarianism, even if their end goal is the dissolution of the state and capital. Also, for an ideology versed in the formation and interdependence of worker communities, the Day of the Rope is kind of antithetical to establishing solidarity and mostly serves, I believe, as masturbatory schadenfreude.
But hey, I’m willing to fix some of the stuff that doesn’t work instead of throwing more fuel into the machine that over-harvests people and our planet to the point of destruction.
I really like this nuanced take, btw. Thanks for posting it.
The vanguard state is a mean to reach communism, it is not communism itself. That’s a pretty big difference.
The difference is the same with the gouvernement révolutionnaire in France during the revolution, and you can make parallels with US revolution too. I’m pretty sure the US government is very different from what it was during its war against UK.
Such as the Russian revolution that modern communists have mixed praise for until a dictator emerged and so it doesn’t count.
Or the Chinese revolution that modern communists have mixed praise for until a dictator emerged and so it doesn’t count.
Or the Cuban revolution that be serious you know goddamn well what we’re talking about. I wasn’t being coy. People call these dictatorships communist because they’re the only countries that were ever called communist, and - generally speaking - they became dictatorships after genuinely attempting to implement communism.
If you want to say it’s like shitting on democratic republics because of the French revolution, hey great sure, that’s an attempt gone terribly wrong. Revolutions are pluripotent and dictatorships can emerge from nearly anything. But advocates of secular democracy can point to examples that went right.
Dude!! I’ve done this!! I shaved my beard except for my mustache for my cousins wedding, no one started a conversation with “how’s work”. Everyone wanted to talk about the stache lmao
The guy has made Peugeot a profitable company. This is a bona fide miracle, given how shitty the cars have become. BUT! Now they are shitty and 40% more expensive, you absolutely need to buy one.
Upgrade your fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, and plug wires. The ones they stick on at the factory work, but don’t provide optimal fuel consumption. Doing this, and watching my tach I got an old Forester to get around 25mpg delivering food.
maybe make sure injectors are working properly (defective injectors have more fuel return thus higher consumption) ? or throttle body uncalibrated ? or good fuel pump motor. After changing the fuel pump motor i had a diesel mpg (60mpg) with my gasoline car (which used to be at 30, sometimes 20mpg, which was too much :/)
I can vouch for this, having had a 308 van that was bleeding me dry annually through the revisions, even if they’re not expensive to buy, the maintenance is ridiculously expensive.
Not Google, this has been added by the manufacturer of your phone. Probably they got too many complaints like “I disabled data and now there’s no internet” because average users don’t read what’s on screen
or more accurately users just have no grasp of what things come from. No shortage of times in tech support where I’ve heard things like “Yes I know the internet is down, I’m not trying to go to the internet I’m trying to go to facebook”.
I feel your pain - “Daaaaad! My internet’s on but I can’t get to YouTube” - but I feel this one’s a little less obvious than that. It’s not always apparent whether a given feature is stock OS or vendor specific.
I’m not able to reproduce this in my pixel 5, maybe Google removed this as a pixel exclusive feature? Or maybe because I used that adb command to separate the “internet” button in two buttons (WiFi and data)
Very much possible that Google changed it, since the buttons appear to be combined on Pixel devices. LineageOS and multiple other vendors definitely have it.
Right? Looks like their Bethesda purchase was the best investment for new content. Starfield, Hi Fi Rush, the Quake II remaster (we don’t talk about Redfall).
I just bought a CD player a few weeks ago. It’s not very good (it’s a combination CD player/alarm clock, and the speakers are crap) but it’s nice being able to just put a disc in and press “play” instead of booting up one of my game consoles or plugging in my USB optical drive. I’ve started hitting up second-hand stores for CDs to play with it.
I just download from youtube with yt-dlp or using blackhole app to import spotify playlist or using some telegram bot to download songs from spptify links.
Convenience is because you have been using it and made your liked playlist there. I download the songs I like and play it locally because that is even more convenient to turn of mobile data or put airplane mode on and play song with much longer battery life and no other app notifications. Also you can play it on any device with the added benefit of not getting tracked and getting advertisements
Offline mode on spotify is local media with extra steps. Offline mode is premium only. Also you still get tracked with the proprietary app. Spotify songs cannot be played in your favourite music player, device or whatever. I can copy some songs into sdcard to play it on an old speaker set.
Pirated music gets more convenient than what you paid for. Moreover, restricting saving and sharing media is kinda dumb and does not actually hurt artists or their revenue
Offline mode on spotify is local media with extra steps.
It’s really less steps. I don’t have to do anything other than click a single button once.
Pirated music gets more convenient than what you paid for.
It really doesn’t. I like piracy, and I have a Plex server with around 6 TB of media but pirating music on a large scale is just annoying as fuck and my PC would have to be on all the time for my phone to access all my Music. My phone obviously can’t fit 5000+ songs.
I even have Radarr, Sonarr, and Bazarr; and I am of a few private trackers. So I am not unfamiliar with piracy.
All I play is 75 songs mp3s and i pkay it in shuffle. When i really like a song i downloads it. I really hate having to load every songs from internet to play it, everytime. Still having to load from your pc is easier than having to load from internet, for me. Also you get tracked online, always. Offline doesnt work for non premium.
Btw 5000+ songs with each 10mb file size would be 50gb and you could fit it in phone
Yeah, I love streaming for music. About $10 a month and I get seemingly every song I’ve ever looked up. Streaming video has a lot of problems with fragmentation, but music doesn’t seem to have nearly as bad of an issue. I use YTM and have never not found what I wanted to listen to. $10 is like the price of a single CD (or was – it’s been well over a decade since I’ve even looked at the price of CDs).
I’ve also listened to a lot of full albums on streaming (it’s often what I do when I discover a new artist that I like) and there’s never an album that I’d want to buy every song from. My music tastes are also very diverse. My liked songs are full of tons of songs that may as well be one hit wonders to me. That doesn’t translate well to buying CDs.
I actually really love the idea of spotify, but their execution is fucked. Joe Rogan’s getting billions and musicians who make up the overwhelming majority of the plays get microscopic returns per play. That’s bullshit.
Systemd is huge. It’s a complex project that covers not just the init system, but also process management, networking, mounts, sessions, many other things. Many people think its monolithic design run counter with the Unix philosophy and wish to use distros without systemd.
Just to avoid misunderstandings: it's not a monotolithic blob, it is thought so because its first project was a system daemon that manages system services. It is described as "a software suite that provides an array of system components for Linux operating systems.", it is highly modular and offer many optional components that each have their own purpose.
