I love talking with kids in that phase. The raw curiosity and interest in the mundane is so refreshing.
Sometimes I feel like many adults hate to learn new stuff and even get offended by the idea. It’s heartbreaking seeing those interact with inquisitive children, when they answer honest curiosity with indifference or worse anger.
I like it when they are circling a question where the answer is "Nobody knows yet.’ And when they get there I can hit 'em with the finishing move, “Maybe you’ll be the first person to find out!”
my kid has been teaching me shit constantly. either by having facts about animals i didn’t know before (which i have checked and verified) or asking me questions where my answer was “i don’t know, let’s look it up”.
i was always a curious person myself and constantly asked questions as a kid as well, but as you grow up you sometimes take things for granted and forget to ask why something is the way it is or how it came to be so. now my kid looks at the world with fresh eyes and asks questions i haven’t asked, so we can both learn. it’s awesome.
reminds me of the monologue that woman delivers in Love Death and Robots episode Pop Squad.
For clarification, in case it is needed: I hate absolutely everything going on in Palestine right now. The fact that this continues, and is condoned by the west crushes my soul.
That second one may do a lot more than just no tides. The planet may not be habitable without the moon. I don’t remember the specific details right now, but those tides have something to do with levelling out our weather patterns.
I just ask them to please do anything they can to fix whatever my hair is doing, inasmuch as possible, and to remove as much volume as they can without it getting out of control (too long, and it’s a chaotic uncontrollable mess; too short and it’s also a chaotic uncontrollable mess; these two states sometimes overlap… but I don’t want to shave the whole damn thing).
It usually works for a week or two until it starts getting long enough to start getting completely out of control again.
While I believe they really could, that would be really stupid. Is creating a hotspot with your phone suddenly also not allowed? Because that’s all it essentially is.
I’d rather Lemmy burn to the ground than become famous, seriously watching AND experiencing twitter, reddit, Facebook, MySpace, my-yearbook, and (does Skype count?). I would like to make Lemmy my forever social media. Only time will tell if it lasts though.
It was said as a common sense criticism of the Republicans by VP candidate Tim Walz. It serves as a criticism without giving them any intellectual credibility, which is important against fascism. Fascists love when you try to debate them or allow them in the conversation, and calling them weird shuts it down.
Two answers. First, WTF are you doing asking in here, go see a doctor. Hell, see 3 of em.
But also, life is just a meaningless struggle against empathy anyway. You’re best off just accepting it and trying to have some fun before your inevitable natural death.
And don’t worry, existential crises get easier to live with after your first few. It might help to get a low-dose anxiety medication.
