Ragnell , to RedditMigration in There needs to be a step by step migration guide
@Ragnell@kbin.social avatar

Maybe we need a Fediverse wiki with specific sections to guide people through choosing an app, an instance, account creation and migration from another platform.

One thing about Kbin and Lemmy is we are probably the best positioned to create these guides, at least, due to the redditlike nature of these apps.

DandalfTheWhite , to gaming in What is your favorite pre-EA Star Wars game?

I’ve always loved Galactic Battlegrounds because RTS are fun. Rebellion is another great one that another commenter mentioned. I was also a fan of Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy and replaced them on switch a year or two back.

I run my self hosted stuff on a k3s cluster at home on bare metal, then use cloudflare to protect the IP and access only by VPN.

Isn’t there a bug in the new version of Lemmy that messes up federation with Kbin right now?

Cr0xy , to gaming in Why I Probably Hate your Favorite Video Game's "Awesome Story" (an incomplete list)

Oh wow, kudos for sitting down and writing this piece out. Damn, that’s a long post.

But seriously though, all I could think of when I “skimmed” through the text was that you got too obsessed with the building blocks of a story and realised that you are critical towards that they’re all the same shape and/or made by the same material. So you stand very close to the wall and squint instead of backing up a few paces to get a good view of the actual construct in it’s entirety.

Relax and just be happy that we have the luxury in this day and age to appreciate gaming as a medium. Or don’t, whatever makes you happy :)

Brandon3399 ,

I really like this point. If you look closely most churches are built with bricks and wood, but still create beautiful structures. As I was reading through the list I was thinking a lot about games that did points good and badly. Tropes are tropes for a reason (check out OSP trope talks if you want break down on how specific tropes can be used well or poorly)

Lack of privacy is an implication of giving away control of social interactions.

king_dead , to gaming in Does an MMO with no way to turn money into power exist?

Runescape was like that for the longest time and tbh k dont think bonds really impact my experience all that much

Gabtraf ,

Ironmen stand alone. No trading with other players means no way to p2w.

liminis ,

Yep, OSRS ironman involves so little non-social interaction with other players* that their power from bond gold is almost irrelevant.

ShaunaTheDead , to linux_gaming in What’s the best distro for gaming on linux? Any tips and tricks?
@ShaunaTheDead@kbin.social avatar

Seeing as you're coming from Windows and already have familiarity with Ubuntu, I'd say go with Ubuntu. The difference between Windows and Ubuntu is pretty minimal, and Ubuntu has amazing support because of it's popularity finding an answer to any question is a simple search away. The FPS gains from a leaner distro will be minimal compared to Ubuntu and you still get a fully functioning, well maintained and supported system.

I wouldn't recommend you venture too far from Ubuntu but if you're feeling a bit adventurous, Pop!_OS is based on Ubuntu and is a great option. Any of the Debian based distros would also feel similar to Ubuntu and Windows and will generally offer a user experience that a Linux noob should be able to get into as you gradually get used to using the terminal rather than GUIs.

Que , to technology in Any good debloated TVs?

We’re looking to get our first TV in years, the current one is about 10-12 years old. We don’t watch normal ‘tv’, everything is streamed through another device.

What kind of adverts can I expect in a modern current-gen TV?

zoe_codez ,
@zoe_codez@lemmy.digital-alchemy.app avatar

Mine just pushed streaming services and shows I’m not interested in, and makes it waaaaay easier to accidentally get advertised at than to find the input select menu to get out of that.

The UI also lags hard while trying to stream video because the embedded computer is terrible
