This is a common thread and question that I've seen pop up all over the internet since I first joined message boards in the early 00s. It's you and I dont mean that in a judgmental way, but it sounds like you're probably burned out or being brought down by other factors in your life.
I said it in 2002 on gamefaqs, I said it in 2005 on my small local game message board, I said it in 2010 on reddit, and I'll say it again. The best time for gaming is now. Because there are still good games coming out regardless of the bad contemporary trends, and the indy revolution of the 10s has only made that more true. On top of that all the classics you know and love are still behind us and playable.
I think you need to take a step back and try to figure out exactly what it is about gaming that you used to enjoy and try to figure out why you may not be enjoying games anymore. It could be the type of game youre playing, it could be that you're just burned out, and it could be external factors in life.
Did you used to play games with friends and family that have drifted apart as you got older? Does work leave you drained and with little time and energy to play your long playsession single player experience? Is the game that you're playing one with a toxic community? Do you feel unfulfilled in other parts of your life and feel guilty that instead of working on that you're engaging in your hobby? Are you experiencing other mental health issues like depression or anxiety that might be tinting your enjoyment of things?
There are a number of reasons you might fall into and out of gaming. I'm in my 30s and I personally go through seasons and times when I play a lot of games and when I focus my hobbys on something else. Ive felt like "maybe I'll never get that immersive feeling again like I did at 18" a bunch of times in my life and then picked up games I couldnt put down. Once you find out the why you can try and tackle the problem.
I’m not OP, but I feel like I want to add on to this if that’s alright. I think it’s often easy to get into this mindset when a trend seems to overtake a lot of the industry. For instance, personally I’ve noticed a common game that seems to get churned out a lot in recent years: it’s open world, but has nothing in it and is given light RPG elements that don’t really add anything. That doesn’t mean every game is like that, of course, but I think it can be easy to fixate on what we’re tired of seeing. Eventually, someone will come up with a new trend, and the empty open world games will fade out, and the cycle will continue as it always has. It’s also interesting to point out that humans tend to remember the past more fondly, so it’s easy to remember old gems and ignore the flops. Anyway, thanks for entertaining my ramble.
for anyone looking for the answer. I was able to get it working see below: I was able to get tailscale working after reading many comments it all started to click in my mind and I realized it needed a full url say blabla.local/api… so i was able to adguard home add a dns entry for blabla.local using my tailscale device ip. Reverse proxy on the device aiming the tailscale ip to blabla with the port. Then i found a comment in github comments of old issues the dev mentioned in the data folder of the config files you can change the ip that the api listens so i just changed from local ip to tailscale ip refreshed and it all worked. With no issue to my home browser but api working with tailscale on mobile.
I look around for cameras and if I find one, I stare at it for the whole ride. No one really watches those things unless something is being investigated so on the rare chance someone sees it, I’ll just be an oddity in a much more interesting tale.
Usually I just take the stairs though. I hate surveillance.
Reddit is too popular and has too much group think, too many of the same types of comments that will get a lot karma, and too many comments that will just be ignored.
NEW is a garbage dump or a pile of duplicates. So why comment on a new post? It will never go anywhere. HOT is already full of comments, so your comment will just be lost.
Agreed. On reddit each community has one way it thinks and screw you if you don't have the same opinion on something. People here are more civil and willing to have a discussion over disagreements.
In a post and comment, yes. However your up vote vs down vote counts are not stored on your profile. It reduces the game-ification of the interactions.
It also depends where you're reading from. Mastodon doesn't sort at all, Kbin sorts differently from Lemmy, and one Lemmy instance might differ from the next. Even vote counts might differ between servers.
In the end, the user experience here will be much more individual than on Reddit. What is the top post for you might not be the top post for me. :)
I’m already noticing tons of comments getting down voted for seemingly just because people disagree so human nature makes a proper discussion difficult
They don't have the same power over here. Especially on kbin where they pretty much equal "thank you for posting" and that's about it. Boosting is where you become the algorithm and say "I think others need to see this!"
Agreed. I felt like I lurked reddit a lot because I felt like my thought was already found wherever I went unless I was the first one to comment. It’s nice to see a comment section that is growing but not thousands of other thoughts already in it within an hour or so.
I just hope the alt right doesn’t latch on - but w/ this being the Fediverse we can at least use reason & spin them off in their own little corner.. for better or worse. (Better for us & worse for them)
I don’t know what else is the answer though - they either drag us down w/ them or we rise above it & leave them to wallow in their messed up world views.
If this turns into an Odysee then this will be a very sad place built w/ good intentions.
Installing Lineage OS (or most custom ROMs) isn't hard. It's getting the phone to the state to accept custom ROMs that might be tricky.
I think Xiaomi's process is actually quite painless, once you get the boot unlocker working. I remember they make people wait to get the unlock going, did that happen to you?
I personally preferred the Twrp custom recovery route for loading ROMs, it makes it pretty quick and easy. Also good if you like trying out ROMs!
Do you have "hide viewed posts" checked? I don't think that is the exact wording, but it will hide posts that you have opened, commented on, voted on, and also the posts you have created.
AHA! That's it but I see why I had it set the way I did. At least in the interface I'm using I read it the way you suggested as "hide viewed posts" so I unchecked it but it's actually "show read posts." Basically opposite functionality from when I had glanced at it and thought I understood. Thank you!
One other thing I want to add: I’ve read a bunch of comments about how the Rebuilds were used in educational and scientific settings, and that there is a prohibitive cost for RHEL in those environments. After reading so many comments about it, I have to believe that Red Hat is going to make some modification to their Developer License program to allow more than 16 ‘seats’ for those use cases.
I don’t have any expectations of them doing this (but I also have no expectations to the contrary), but I think it would be a good move from Red Hat to make the official RHEL more available, as you suggest.
In another thread I compared the RHEL rebuilds to piracy, and in that vein one could quote Gabe Newell and say that piracy is a service problem – part of the reason Alma/Rocky/etc. exist is because there is a group of users who want to use RHEL but cannot afford it. Red Hat seems to believe that these users should be satisfied with CentOS Stream, and maybe most of them would be, if they only gave it a try. But making RHEL more widely accessible, both to paying users and developers, would probably be good too.
Wikis serve mainly lurkers, and federation of these sites does not matter much for them. The main advantage of wiki federation would be ability to edit several wikis under the same account. However, you can achieve the same effect with OAuth (that is, logging to many sites with the same account on another one).
No, communities on different instances will not have the same content. This is one of the features of the fediverse.
Each instance can have it’s own /c/memes and they won’t conflict. So, there could be lemmy.world/c/memes and lemmyverse.org/c/memes and they could each be different with different content and rules. If you want to see each instances ‘memes’ community, then you will need to subscribe to them individually from your home instance. Once you do that, the ‘memes’ community will be ‘cached’ on your home instance and it will show up in everyone’s feed on your home server.
Right now its a bit of a mess while things are quickly developing. Ultimately, federated communities should look the same across the fediverse, with a slight delay.
There are some caveats to that around defederation.
