.ml are outwardly and proudly tankie weirdo fuckfaces, doesn't suprise me at all to see them do something like this where the intent is to concentrate all political talk into a more easily controlled community.
Also them directing people to go use world news is telling because the .ml world news community is heavily gatekept by a huge pile of tankies that will crush, remove and ban any remote mention of “Russa/China bad”.
I prefer Sci-fi background noise so Surviving Mars is my favorite. Mass Effect is ok but I find it gets a little too cinematic and bombastic at times. FTL and Into The Breach, or really anything by Ben Prunty is good too
It’s not a good idea. Mostly because you need to be changing your mind about things and doing something like what you’re trying to change in your life is not helpful.
Everybody’s unique, everybody’s got a reason, but if you’re actually trying to get straight (as opposed to, say, the court/your parents made you go to $20,000 camp for 30 days) then don’t.
If you do, it’s not the end of the world, it’s just not a great plan. Hang around the barbershop long enough, you’re gonna get a haircut.
Overall, Surviving Mars might be my favorite work soundtrack. Assorted tracks from Stellaris plus the Age of Wonders and Civilization series are also good. Something about the soundtracks in 4X games and games like them always puts me in a productive mood while not making me emotional and thus distracted like RPG soundtracks can sometimes.
Since you like FF, I’d suggest looking into Uematsu’s other works as well, especially Lost Odyssey. For similar ones in the genre, there’s also Yasunori Mitsuda’s work in the Chrono and Xeno series.
Can’t go wrong with pretty much any pre-Skyward Sword Zelda. SS itself also has Ballad of the Goddess, which was good, but I can’t remember any other tunes from it or BOTW that aren’t just reprises of tracks from previous games.
Powershell may have a stupid syntax, but it’s actually pretty good if you look beyond that. Piping objects between scriptlets is so much better than the awk/grep workflows on Linux.
I tried to use it as a base scripting language for a while but I just can’t get over the super verbose command line. Probably great for scripts, but not great in an interactive terminal.
Yes, that looks quite similar, although the full version of Powershell also has access to almost the entire .NET framework, so it’s an interesting mix between programming language and shell rather than just a shell. This also allows for things like hashmaps and queues rather than plain old arrays, for instance. NuShell does the data exchange well, but doesn’t seem to go all-in on OOP scripting like Powershell does.
Some tools such as WinSCP expose quite a large set of features through this mechanism, which give you a lot more control than what most commands can handle.
It’s like C# but variables are kind of $phpStyle and methods are Capitalised-Kebab-Case for some reason. I find the syntax very easy to read, but rather annoying to write for long, complex commands. Luckily, you can leverage the many IDEs to make the process less painful (or chatgpt I suppose).
The composer for Super Meat Boy has done lots of great tracks for Binding of Isaac and Crypt of the Necrodancer too (Danny Baranowsky)
Enter the Gungeon - Abbey or Die
Enter the Gungeon - Behold the Boss Eater
Enter the Gungeon - Boss Battle Beating
Metal Gear solid theme
Nine Sols - Collage
Hades soundtrack (all of it) + if you search for the composer (Darren Korb) then you’ll find loads more great soundtracks he’s done (notably for Bastion).
Hollow Knight soundtrack (all of it + the piano cover version)
Street Fighter 6 - Viator (theme for Ryu + there’s a real cool metal cover that is on YouTube by an indie metal band)
Wipeout HD soundtrack (all of it)
Super Hexagon (all 3 tracks)
Hotline Miami soundtrack
Dead Cells
Lots of people have rightly mentioned FTL
Frank Kelpacki has done tons of great soundtracks across the whole Command and Conquer series and it’s worth searching through.
If you’re into chip tunes, then it is also worth checking out Streets of Rage 2 soundtrack.
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m really into video game instrumentals. If anyone else is interested, there’s a great podcast called Sound of Gaming by BBC radio 3 that is worth going through the back catalogue of episodes.
Right now, as we live and die, there’s enough food to keep every human fed, with plenty of enjoyable meals included (not just boiled chicken and broccoli).
It’s about distribution, which is a corporate problem.
Distribution is the problem. Authoritarians left and right are the problem. I work for a nonprofit that feeds the poor and temporarily under resourced and the government is our biggest obstacle.
What specific problems does the government cause for this non-profit, exactly? What “authoritarian” policies is this “left” you speak of enacting which harms the needy?
I somehow don’t think we will, considering the original commenter is seemingly pretending that they didn’t see the comment. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt, but it’s hard to believe that they’re actually telling the truth about any part of what they said considering they apparently think Trump is the best candidate we have. American centrist and right wing policies are pretty anti-poor.
He uses “left” to refer to Democrats in his comments so I just assumed he meant it here too.
My only guess is that they mean “a for-profit church” when they say “a nonprofit that feeds the poor and temporarily under resourced”. But I dunno, maybe they’re telling the truth.
Distribution is a problem but trucking food from one country to a poor country is not the fix to end world hunger forever. Food aid is fine as a temporary solution but moving food from one country with a surplus to a poor country as a long term solution will just destroy the local agricultural industry which would keep these nations dependent on other countries for food. This happened with the clothing industry in many African nations. The West dumped so much clothing into many African nations as charity that local clothing shops and tailors have to compete with free clothing, thus the clothing industry is unable to flourish. The best solution is to help these nations improve their local food productivity and grow their economy.
I never said we shouldn’t feed people. Just that fixing the distribution problem alone isn’t the end all fix to end world hunger. And this isn’t about capitalism since even in a socialist country where all the workers own the means of production, you know like farmers, there is an economy that can collapse. Yes we should feed hungry people by giving them food but we should also help them increase their food productivity so that their economy doesn’t collapse because of the influx of food. Since most poor countries are agricultural economies.
Keeping poor nations poor and dependent on aid isn’t good either.
It also doesn’t account for corporate price gouging or the fact that the only reason people go hungry in the world is because letting them starve is more profitable than feeding them even the leftovers and about-to-go-off.
As well as what you said, theres also no reason not the presume the number could be much lower too.
Makeup and makeup companies promote unhealthy beauty standards and are responsible for a disproportionate amount of microplastics. No one should wear makeup
I used to think that and tell my wife that. She told me she wears makeup to feel all sorts of things: strong, assertive, sexy, dignified, powerful, invisible, whatever. Who am I to tell her she shouldn’t use eyeliner to feel strong when she’s got a big meeting at work? If you like makeup live your life
As someone who militantly refuses to wear it to work, I appreciate it as an artistic and stylistic choice. It’s never a tool to hide my face or imperfections but rather to express myself at times. And yes sometimes it makes me feel powerful, much in the same way a dress cut just right for my body makes me feel powerful or wearing steel toe boots into a business meeting makes me feel powerful.
The problem is the expectation of it. If you can’t treat people with respect whether or not we wear it that’s on you.
People have been wearing and using make-up well before capitalism and make-up companies were even a thought in people’s brains. It’s just a thing humans do, and that’s okay.
…okay? If you’re alone with other people, you can tell them that you’re fine with them being homophobic. But in a public space, you’re not the only gay person, and just because it’s okay for you doesn’t mean it’s okay for everyone, so you can’t just say that it’s okay.
Yeah, I kinda hate the types of comments that you replied to. “As an x-person, you can make fun of this person for doing x thing.” That’s a really bad precedent to set, kinda like black people having blanket “n-word passes” to give out to white people
Yeah. Even if it doesn’t hurt you, you’re not the only person existing. And it can hurt other people in the same minority, you don’t just get to say that it’s fine for everyone.
I have to say the mascara is probably the coolest thing about him. Everything else about this guy is absolute dogshit. DeSantis was destroyed by his own base for using heel shoes. It would be funny if Vance got annihilated by MAGA for being a “makeup wearing soyboy” and not being an empty vessel for corruption and political donors who will say and do anything for power
I agree he’s a piece of shit, so why not make fun of the things he’s a piece of shit for and not “lol he’s a BOY who wears MAKEUP and is mean to other BOYS who wear MAKEUP!” It’s a bad look for a group of people who don’t want to be, you know, bigots.
Take your smug self righteousness and give it to someone who deserves it. This piece of shit would attack anyone who claims that he wears makeup even though he does. It’s not about the makeup. It’s about the turd that’s wearing the makeup
Then make fun of the turd and not the makeup? There’s plenty to make fun of. Why are you mad that you don’t get to be a bigot even when the target of your bigotry is a piece of shit?
i liked this meme because it can be read as celebratory if you are chill, like we are, but also as mocking, if you are a biggot, like his voterbase. so win win
Idk I find all the memes mocking closeted or queer presenting republicans for being closeted or queer presenting pretty gross. A bunch of people who are suffering because they can’t be out is sad, not funny, to me. Even if those people suck. I can still hate the parts that suck and feel sympathy for the parts that don’t.
It is terribly sad - they must live in a world of hurt.
However so many of these people actively try to hurt LGBTQ+ and trans people by inciting hate and changing laws to harm the non-straight. In particular they have been preaching that being gay/trans equates to being a child molester. This is horrific and needs to stop. Exposing the hypocrisy is essential to reducing the harm they are inflicting to real people right now
Fine, then mock them for being hypocrites. So much of the criticism is shit like the Grindr search volume in Milwaukee. What’s the joke - a bunch of gay people came to Milwaukee? They can’t be out? They aren’t who you’d think you were? It’s not funny if you apply it to some other group. It wouldn’t be funny if Republicans made the same comment about the DNC convention.
If you want to mock someone for being a hypocrite, mock them for being a hypocrite. JD Vance sucks in part because he’s a hypocrite, because he wears makeup while criticizing people who don’t adhere to gender norms. To just criticize the makeup alone is not good enough to expose the hypocrisy.
