I came here to make sure someone had said this. I usually have a wolf spiderbro in my bathroom. I talked to one this morning in fact, he was a new, smaller one though. They’re great. Eat bugs, no webs. Not significantly dangerous at all.

doingthestuff ,

They definitely slam white people’s heads into the ground for telling them no, too.

doingthestuff ,

It eventually got so hot it got SWOLL and rose up out of the sea.

doingthestuff ,

Man, Ohio is now in Turkiye. Not sure if I’m more excited about the mountains or dreading the time in the restrooms.

doingthestuff ,

You don’t need a spoon. It’s in a bowl. You eat the solid bits with chopsticks then pick up the bowl and drink it! It’s not rocket science.

doingthestuff ,

ELI5 please

doingthestuff ,

I don’t think I mentioned volume anywhere. I don’t make any sound when I drink soup. Why would I not just drink the broth after I’m done eating the solid bits out of the soup? Are you bound by some crazy social rules that no one actually should be bound by? You really need to ask yourself these questions. I am most certainly not bound by any of those societal bullshits.

doingthestuff ,

Yeah so useful for all the people who avoid going to Illinois for all of the obvious reasons. I was born in Illinois, and don’t even like to drive through there.

doingthestuff ,

So we’re back to genociding Israel again? I feel like no one has a plan that isn’t at least a little genocide.

I am a huge police accountability buff. But also, law matters, and court rulings matter. If police order you out of your car for their safety (in the US), you have to comply. If you do not, they are authorized to use force to pull you out and almost never do that gently. Cops absolutely use excessive force all the time, so not doing things that specifically give them permission would be smart. Him rolling up his tinted windows and refusing to get out of the car are what made this happen.

doingthestuff ,

The clip I saw at the link looked like it was edited right there, I’d love to see the raw video. It could have been too quick, it could have been longer. I don’t know.

doingthestuff ,

There are a lot of people who want to end qualified immunity and reform many realities of policing today. I am describing the reality today. There’s a reason I say I’m interested in police accountability/transparency.

doingthestuff ,

Thanks. Yeah they didn’t even think about de-escalation.

doingthestuff ,

If they can’t see in your vehicle, they can tell you to exit the vehicle. If you give off a hostile vibe they can tell you to exit the vehicle. Having overly dark tint creates a scenario where they cannot see what is going on inside the vehicle. I have seen cops pull out their guns and shout at people to get out of the car from 20 ft away because they couldn’t see inside. I’m not saying that’s the right response, I’m just saying that there are more court-accepted reasons that an officer can pull you out of your vehicle “for their safety”.

doingthestuff ,

Best thing to cook on in the world though. It’s worth opening a window or whatever.

doingthestuff ,

My microwave has guns too.

doingthestuff ,

Unloaded guns are useless if you need one.

I don’t know any chefs who agree with you but I know four who disagree. And I disagree. But admittedly that’s a small sample size. I paid to have the gas line extended to reach my kitchen.

Not all return situations are equal either. There is a difficulty factor. I’ve returned carts every time in my life except once. I was about 50 car rows deep in a massive crowded lot and I realized there were no cart corrals at all. At the back of the massive lot and much, much closer to me was a bunch of carts. I pushed a few together and added mine. The difference in this scenario was not me.

doingthestuff ,

Yeah we have a government that represents corporations.

I’ve only encountered the use of mulatto once in the wild. My girlfriend my freshman year at college had an adopted brother who was biracial. She used the word mulatto to describe him, but at the time everything she said about him seemed very loving.

doingthestuff ,

I will never financially recover from this.

My MIL is a lifelong vegetarian who eats bacon, because “bacon is a condiment.”

doingthestuff ,

I’ve never asked, but generally it’s something you put on your main food items to add flavor. She does require that it’s crumbled, and crispy. Bacon bits essentially, but she prefers the real ones to the fake ones. It’s not like she eats bacon every day.

It’s a lot harder if you have a family.

Kamala Harris to propose up to $50,000 tax deduction for new small businesses (www.reuters.com)

Vice President Kamala Harris will propose a tax deduction of up to $50,000 for new small businesses on Wednesday, a tenfold increase over existing relief and her latest economic policy aimed at winning over middle-class Americans after jumping into the presidential race over a month ago.

They way I understood it from the '70s until today was the German shiiters meaning, or bullshitters. Liars, cheats, scammers. Our family has a strong and recent German heritage and connection still, there are some original German speakers in the family still living. So maybe a translation bias.

I hate Walmart but honestly they make the best cheaper off-,brand I’ve found.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford says his hopes on Epic Store were 'overly optimistic or misplaced' (www.tweaktown.com)

I’m genuinely shocked how much Epic poured into the store and it still lacks so much basic features. Sorting games is still extremely barebones, store is filled with NFT/crypto garbage, the store still looks like a college student’s first front-end project, and last time I used the launcher to pick up free games (last year),...

doingthestuff ,

I own a handful of games on Epic that I actually play. But whenever I see one of those games under $5 on steam sale I buy it. I think I’m down to two games left. Playing Fallout London on GOG gives me the same heebie jeebies

doingthestuff ,

I’m 50. I’ve never had 10 days off in a row. I tried to plan two weeks last year and left but had to come back early.

doingthestuff ,

Yeah that doesn’t work for kitchen staff.

There is no mention of lawns in the post. Is this maybe supposed to be a response in one of the comment threads?

doingthestuff ,

Yeah I’m up at 3-4 am every day so I’m waiting for our local ordinance to say it’s okay before I’m being loud. We have quiet hours 10p -7a. There are definitely people who make noise during the quiet hours though. I’m m in the US but I couldn’t care less about my lawn though. Probably some of my neighbors wish I did.

Microsoft is bringing annoying Windows 11 Start menu ads to Windows 10 (www.neowin.net)

Let’s put it this way; when Microsoft announced its plans to start adding features to Windows 10 once again, despite the operating system’s inevitable demise in October 2025, everyone expected slightly different things to see ported over from Windows 11. Sadly, the latest addition to Windows 10 is one of the most annoying...

I have been installing Linux on a number of my work PCs that I manage. Most of them are pretty straightforward, office products, printing, web, basic video player. But my personal PCs have so many different programs installed for different niche uses that it’s been a massive roadblock to me switching over. I know it’s coming because I’m not moving to Windows 11 even though my PC is compatible in theory. But man is it going to take me a lot of time to figure out all of the different screen capture, video editing, audio extraction and editing, disc imaging, photo editing etc. I know I can figure it out, but it’s about the time. I have a huge steam library too,but most of that should work.

Any of you playing Fallout London on Linux?

doingthestuff ,

I guess there are different rules in different places and we should know what applies to us. Where I live it’s okay to clarify sex vs gender. So you could say she’s a woman but that her sex is biologically male. But Australia is saying she’s biologically female? Like I said, good to know.

If planning to invade Russia, plan for winter. Theyll never see it coming.

How do ants survive in frigid northern regions? Do ants survive the winter or is it spring egg hatching?

Having just eaten Taco Bell for lunch yesterday, they should have done some testing and charting of flatulent frequency using baseline testing and various amounts of Taco Bell and sauces.

I haven’t bought a console since the N64, PC gaming has just been better ever since. I still have my N64 and NES though.

doingthestuff ,

My last console was a N64. I still play those old games on occasion. My PC gaming experience isn’t equalled by consoles. I’d actually buy a Blu-ray player for my PC, it’s connected to my TV and sound system - but I hate most of the movies made today. Maybe I still will, just to preserve some old classics in my library.

doingthestuff ,

Do you have a tower PC? I have a stack of DVD read/write drives +/- that I need to get rid of pretty soon, I won’t have a place to store them after the next couple of months. I’d offer to ship you one, but I have to put an asterisk in there. The last time I offered to ship a guy some RAM it turned out there was a lot of international barriers and it was going to cost me about 10 times what the RAM was worth to ship it to him, with no guarantee he’d actually receive it. So… ?
