Lemmy.world is overwhelmingly Liberal (think Reddit 2), Lemmy.ml is largely Marxist, plus FOSS and Privacy enthusiasts.

I assume they believe that as large, catch-all instances, they are slowing growth of smaller, more niche interests.

Here’s the thing: I agree with you on .world, but last I knew, .ml was STRUGGLING to not be seen as ‘the default catch-all’. I don’t believe ALL OF THEM belong on the flamethrower-ing list. I mean sure, the third of .ml that is loudly and obnoxiously anti-marxist can get on that list, but surely not the whole instance.

Fair, .ml can have a lot of awful takes on it too, that’s why I have a couple accounts with the same name on other instances.

it seems important to me to advocate that we don’t completely alienate new users. Lemmy.ml may be the second largest most diverse instance behind .world but I vividly remember when migrating over that I wanted to sign up with at least one instance that maintained populated discussions on more than one current event. Lemmy is still pretty niche on its own, generally speaking.

I wrote my own ansible role to deploy/maintain a matrix server and a few goodies (element/synapse-admin). If you’re not using ansible you should still be able to understand the deployment logic by starting at tasks/main.yml and following includes/tasks from there.

I’ve never used Native Alpha, but from what I saw at a glance, Firefox does have that same functionality built in through the “Add to Home Screen” option, but only if the site is a PWA. Otherwise the home screen icon will just open the site in the browser like it normally would.

native alpha works with any application, and is a manager of sorts. so it’s quite a lot more ergonomic and reliable to use.
