Elon has all but admitted that the hyperloop was just a distraction to derail California’s public rail plans, and now that thay ship has sailed he doesnt give a shit about hyperloop anymore. The Hyperloop concept is literally just a tool that Elon uses to prevent development of public transport in California so that people will buy more teslas instead.
now go check out who’s got the best rail services around the world. with the possible exception of japan, who’s still got some measure trouble with some of their private operators, nearly all of the rail operators who are consistently good are state owned.

I am certain that Elon will try to co-opt Trump’s cult following and be his political successor when Trump finally kicks the bucket, and that legitimately terrifies me. Elon will run for pres in the next 20 years I’d bet on it.
Seriously, how do you even get started? It’s like the tutorials are all, “This is a basic ‘Hello World’ module/flake. Now, you are a master.” I would love to figure it out, but I need a little more hand holding.
I HIGHLY recommend forking a nix-config that uses flakes, home-manager, and whatever window manager you prefer. Since Nix is so versatile (and the documentation of flakes and home-manager are BAD), I found it absolutely crucial to reuse a well-architected config and slowly modify it in a VM to sketch out my config until it was stable enough to try on a real machine.
Yeah, I’ve had the same experience multiple times, people have been raving about it but I can’t find a tutorial that is as noob-friendly as I’d need it.
Sure I guess if you can manage to get everything to work in the first place which involves following sixteen different guides across twenty-three different websites all of which with conflicting information.
As a non-amateur who every few months thinks “I should consider getting a license”, I’ve been hoping for an obvious bootstrap point.
The library has some old “here’s every exam question” style cram books, but I’m actually looking for a course for understanding, so I don’t pass the exam and proceed to have no idea what to do or how to behave. That went so well eith the driver’s license exam. :)
@667@HakFoo Unfortunately our club is fixated on scheduled instructor led classes (death by powerpoint for the most part) and in-person administration of electronic tests.
They deliberately conceal the fact that self-study and on-demand remote testing are options when people inquire about getting licensed.
That’s disappointing to hear. What would be the fallout within your club if you were to just go get licensed on your own? Does your jurisdiction permit licensure outside of clubs?
Ahh ok, I’m US licensed also. Was surprised to see your club insists on such a rigid learning experience.
You’ll know best for your present situation, but I’d encourage you to just go get your license on your own and get on the air. There’s plenty of media channels to learn.

Go through HamStudy.org and start taking practice tests. (I also picked up Gordon Wests books and did a once-through).
One tip is to grab the tech and general at the same sitting.
Got an cheap HT (handheld dual band)? Get on RepeaterBook, program repeaters in, and start listening to local nets. Test in person if you can but online is also avail
I always go grab the latest video game from my library. I don’t pay for em. You get them for 3 weeks at a time and can borrow them as much as you want. This is how I managed to play the entire PS4 library pretty much.
It seems to me that almost all native English speakers got principal and principle backwards. I’m actually surprised when I see them used correctly (which is not the case here).
As a child in the US I was taught “The Principal is you ‘pal’.” which is not true but helpful when spelling it. Like “dessert” has more ‘s’ than “desert” because it’s something you want more of.
Finally managed to get my uncle over. He’s not very worldly (depressed, probably autistic - just like his father) and is struggle with his first lady friend. I don’t think he really needed advice (he seems to have a good grip on the situation) but wanted to talk to someone about it. I think it helped. And I got a feed, plus some free Greek yoghurt. Bonus.

Tax applies to income. I don’t think that would solve the issue for billionaires with no income. We need to just take their excess money away, in addition to 100% taxes on their income above a certain level
Most rich people are rich because their parents were rich. You can do a death tax, but that doesn’t solve the problem because they’ll continue to unfairly hoard that wealth for the rest of their life
Indeed, most of the billionaires were born with a silver spoon up their ass. But their parents were only millionaires, there’s no way that their offspring accumulated billions without income.
3 billion dollars is three thousand million dollars. That’s enough to hoard for generations without being taxed.
Or that money could be taken and used to end homelessness and provide services to pull families out of intergenerational poverty caused by the crimes committed by billionaire families
One of my main tools has been SteamDB’s instant search - it’s basically a giant list of all steam games, sorted by review score, with a TON of different filters you can apply. Looking specifically for something released this year? You can filter for it. Looking specifically for a co-op action shooter, or a singleplayer 2d platformer? You can filter for those too. Wanting to exclude early access games or exclude games with a min/max number of reviews? You can do that too. Very handy tool
Who cares? I exclude genres I don’t like too. Play the games you like. I’m sure those poor indie games will do just fine despite a guy on Lemmy saying he excludes them.
Statistically speaking most people can find new games in their library they bought and never touched for years. It’s a genius marketing strategy on steam’s part.
