I do not think it is you at all. I am on the autism spectrum myself and I purposely sit away from others because being boxed in by other people causes me to be way overstimulated. I don’t believe it is intended to be a slight against you, rather it’s just people’s preferences.
I hated it, I only just barely put up with the toxic community so I could still visit my favorite subs only (I used apollo so I could ignore the garbage that’d be recommended to us constantly). I used the app-pocalypse as an excuse to leave. Now I only lurk there for the ooh-la-la subs, but as more and more creators there have lately been moving to lemmynsfw I might not even need those subs for much longer.
Yes, it’s great. I’d also recommend Memmy since it shows downvotes and upvotes separately instead of net score (which lemmy does, idk about the other reddit-like federated sites) to discourage circlejerking
Nothing to hide until a person has something to hide. An attitude of “I don’t have anything to hide” may catch up to a person. No one knows what the future holds. One day they might start tracking private information a person does not want tracked, for example financial or medical data. So better to put the fence up now than try to put it up during a stampede.
Personally I keep my data private with a reasonable amount of effort. I try to keep a small internet footprint and there’s stuff I won’t do for the sake of privacy. Going some years back the only social media I engaged in was Reddit until coming here to Lemmy. These are anonymous mediums. It blows my mind that so many people are willing to completely splay out their lives non-anonymously on social media.
