I wouldn’t do this if I were you because any of your activity can be traced back to you via your credentials.

rDNS is something that is not set up by your domain registrar. It’s set up by your ISP or cloud VM provider.

All it is going to take for AI to go away is when it makes a serious mistake that injures or kills a patient. The wrongful death and negligence lawsuits would be in the high millions or even more if it is a young child. In my opinion, AI is a very bad idea. I would sooner put my trust in a human being than AI. I can see AI being a tool to assist a doctor in making a diagnosis, but certainly not to replace doctors or reduce their numbers.

I am kind of - no, I am really - anti-capitalist. In some evil sort of way, if the hospital ‘boss’ decides to replace enough medical professionals with AI and robots and this causes a patient to die from inadequate care, then not a small part of me believes that the hospital boss should pay with their own life. Yeah, I have an anger management problem when it comes to the wealthy.

I don’t know of one specifically for clothing but I know of a great ERP free open source software called ERPnext. This could easily work for you.

That’s a real shame but it says a lot about the motivations of politicians and the fear they have of education. If I ran my own school, I’d be reaching out to him to hire him.

If I had a LinkedIn account, they could have at it. LinkedIn is capitalist pr0n.

That’s truly all it is! There is nothing of value that can be learned on LinkedIn. It’s bootlickers dry humping the wealthy.

RustDesk is briliant. Its interface is virtually identical to TeamViewer except it is free and open source. I swear by it. You can even set up your own RustDesk server and self-host it.

NVIDIA is going to be its achilles heel unfortunately.

I have to agree with you here because it comes in waves for me as well. But often spread out between 4-6 months and then I’ll get it for 2-3 weeks straight. It’s very unpleasant and I’m sorry you’re experiencing this.

I’ve just started Rexulti, Klonopin, Chlonodine, and Ambien. Even though I’m only 5 days into it, I’m already starting to feel better.

I hope you can find some healing and stabilization.

There’s rumoured to be an immigration window that will be opened if a Christo-Fascist gets elected. This should be in the Scandinavian countries.

I don’t like confrontation either but it is important to set boundaries. I’ve done this. It’s okay for someone not to like me but I will not tolerate disrespect. I had somebody at work call me stupid because I could not solve their problem right then and there. When I get very angry, I speak quietly and enunciate my words. I said to this person, “I’m going to leave now. You let me know when you’re ready to work with me.” To which she responded that she would call me and I retorted, “No, you will not call me. You will send me a Teams message or an email.” And I walked away. Naturally I got accused of all kinds of things but I documented what happened and signed and dated it. HR found in my favor.

This is my take on it as well. My phone is for basic quick communication. My real productivity happens on my laptop and desktop.

I want to switch to Linux but there are a few major hurdles.

So I have a situation. I really want to switch to Linux as my main gaming/production OS but need the Adobe suite as I am a graphic designer. Adobe is the golden standard for this industry (and likely to always be) so while Gimp and Inkscape might work, they are not feasible for my career. I also know that there will be...

I’m working on my free online, self-paced web development class called The Odin Project. I’ve an idea to eventually write a blogging platform for my own use as I don’t like what’s out there. And I’m thinking of a career pivot from desktop support to web development.

I cuurently use one of three registrars: Namecheap, Cloudflare, or Porkbun. Porkbun is my favorite and I will move my domains to them as they expire.

That just read like a whole bunch of corporate whining. Looks like I won’t be using anything HashiCorp related. Don’t press on my back and tell me it’s raining. This BSL license is not free open source. Fuck off with that shit.

It’s honestly not because you have to watch shows (more or less) on their schedule. The true advantage of streaming is that you can easily pause and rewind.

Not only is a DIY UPS unreliable, but it could be potentially dangerous unless you are an electrician, an electrical engineer, or somebody that has extensive knowledge of both the engineering side and safety side. How many CyberPower units do you have? It’s impressive that you have enough UPS power to run a NAS for that long.

housepanther ,
@housepanther@lemmy.goblackcat.com avatar

What is your NAS? Is it something you built or a Synology?

housepanther ,
@housepanther@lemmy.goblackcat.com avatar

Ah, I thought as much because they’re really power-efficient unlike something DIY.

housepanther ,
@housepanther@lemmy.goblackcat.com avatar

I use BTRFS simply because I run a rolling distro of Linux. For the average user, I don’t think it is quite as necessary but the snapshots are nice. Of course, you could use timeshift to make snapshots as well.

I have a Dell OptiPlex 7050 acting as a router. But I don’t do any port forwarding. Instead, I have an Oracle Always Free VM that is connected to my server via a WireGuard tunnel. The cloud VM acts as reverse proxy to all of the services that I host. The OptiPlex 7050 is running OpenBSD.

Will Corpos try to force all computing on the to cloud and make privately owned local storage illegal?

Seems like the next logical step. Most big games are always-online Games as a Service where your local storage is useless if the company server doesn’t handshake. A lot of business and productivity software already requires subscriptions and is partially online. Every single fucking company wants to have an app on your phone...

housepanther ,
@housepanther@lemmy.goblackcat.com avatar

I’m no Nostradamus but I don’t see this happening because the companies that make their revenue on storage would be crying foul. I don’t see any successful pushes to make local storage illegal. Put it this way: I hope I’m right.

Well, then we are facing two bubbles at the same time: AI and cyber currencies. Once both those bubbles burst, the fallout is going to make the dot-com era bubble look like small suds by comparison.

You're lying down, trying to sleep. Some part of your body is itchy, scratching will wake you up, not scratching will remain itchy. Do you scratch or wait for the itch to go away?

I have this issue often. I know if I scratch, it will wake me up and take longer to sleep because of my body movement. If I don’t scratch, my mind only focuses on the itch. Sometimes I’ll wait 5 minutes for the scratch to go away and then I just cave and start scratching any minor itch I have on my body. Has anyone just not...

Well, imagine someone opening the door if the water hasn’t fully drained out and the ensuing mess. If you’re wondering if someone is stupid enough to do that, then the answer is unequivocally yes. There is a reason the door locks for that amount of time - so somebody doesn’t brain fart, open the door, and flood the laundry room.

It’s shenanigans like this that make me never want to buy a Canon or HP product. If I need a high end inkjet for printing photographs, it’s Epson all day. For anything else, I swear by a good used bulletproof Brother.

Hmmmm … that’s definitely disappointing!

Old PC as Server

I have an early 2000s PC (pre-SATA) with 512MB RAM (I’d love to tell you about the CPU, but its under a cooler that isn’t going anywhere) that’s been sitting in closets for about 15 years. Assuming I’m willing to buy into it, can something like that reasonably host the following simultaneously on a 40GB boot drive:...

You could simply gut it, keep the case and power supply, and put modern components in it.
