I don’t have any more helpful advice besides what the others said but I am very interested in hearing how this goes. I hope you can get some peace of mind!
Do they have a hearing aid, or one of those hearing enhancers?
That would be my guess. Cheap Bluetooth devices are creepy, I have a $2 pair of ear pods from Ali and it somehow automatically connected to my wife’s iPhone the other night and I was able to pause and even change the music she was sleeping to. That all happened by accident (she was not happy), so I totally could see that happening.
Thanks for creating this community! I must confess I wasn’t part of it on the other site because it was too active. I was however part of deliciouscompliance, which was a lot of fun.
I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone has to share. Who knows I might have some things to share, too!
I am new like most of us. When I signed up I had now idea what an instance was. To me the name Lemmy.world sounded like it was more general and therefore would have more content so I picked that one.
That seems to be a question that pops up during the initial application process, e.g., on the form that you submit if applying online.
I can't recall ever being in a position to specify that after I've joined a company. HR and payroll systems have always been preconfigured for me without issue, for instance.
So, as long as you didn't misrepresent it on your initial application materials, probably should just clear it up, OP—to be consistent. Although you're probably gonna be okay anyway if you don't (assuming you're not benefiting from it somehow).
Skyrim. It’s a beautiful game, even now when I play it I take a moment to just look at how gorgeous the scenery is. I love the quests and that you can own a horse/house/child/ get married. I love the potions and crafting and customisation.
I don’t think there are many games quite like Skyrim
It’s a “parable of the broken window”. We’re wasting time and effort on proprietary software. You (OP) are now spending that time and effort on other stuff that you otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. So somebody is still getting paid, it’s just not the ad industry.
I was just thinking about this today! I thought it was high time I dug out the old ones. I have to buy an adapter for the AV but these games were some of my favorites. Double Dash is still the best Mario Kart.
I got a Boox Nova Air and it has some trade offs. None of the ereaders are open source/Stallman-esque ethics friendly really but I do like that with Android based readers like Onyx Boox you can read in whatever app you want (like I had some purchased on Kindle, Kobo or even the Libby library app or Scribd subscription service.) This works for me since I can have those multiple sources. However, I found the Kobo Libra H20 to be a more polished and enjoyable experience so if all you’re doing is putting files on and not worrying about having multiple source access then I’d recommend that form factor.
Nusiance about video on fediverse systems would be in deduplication and distribution. Central sites like youtube can take a hash of any given video and if it matches one already just link to that file. I’m pretty sure the same exists on systems like minio or using an S3 bucket per instance, but to link videos across a federation would either need to replicate the file and serve it P2P style, or hosts with a parculularly populat video are goin to get their bandwidth hammered.
