In all that is wrong with recycling to begin with, do I even need to put cardboard and paper into recycling; or does it just break down easily in all the garbage?

Edit to say - I’m really glad I asked my stupid question. I was so jaded by the con artists in recycling I forgot that when done right there’s so much good - and still loads of consequences to not finding a place to reuse the paper products. I’m not huge with using packaging - and thanks for all the thoughtful answers :))...

Best way to transfer local files to my Android device.

I have a Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G. It comes with the painfully slow USB 2.0. I wish to transfer local music files to it, but it’s taking a long time to get copied over USB connection as well as it fails in-between sometimes. Is there any way to transfer the files in a quick and reliable manner?

Mastodon handles lemmy communities a bit strangely, doesn't it?

I know that communities don’t translate well to Mastodon, I just find it a little odd how it seems to be a firehose of all comments in a community when viewed in Mastodon. I was expecting it to “repost” posts submitted to the community and have comments in the replies to those posts. Just something odd I was thinking...

How are you all planning to watch the 2024 Olympics?

Do any of you have a plan in place for how to tune into the 2024 Paris Olympics? I’ve got a good Jellyfin ecosystem set up to watch my video files and listen to my music, but I haven’t explored many ways to watch live sports content yet. What is the best way to tune in to the events at the Paris Olympics this summer?...

Am I overthinking it?

I’m working on my transition plan away from Windows and testing out various things in VMs as I do so, and one big hurdle is making sure the VPN client my work requires can connect. Bazzite is my target distro (primarily gaming, work less frequently), though other more traditionally structured ones like Pop!_OS and Garuda are...

How long would it take to create a Pyramid today?

Just a shower thought. Seeing how these structures took decades to build in their times, and that too entirely with manual labour, I was wondering how long these architectural marvels would take to be built in this post modern era with the help of our technological advancements....

What reading style do you consider more tedious to read, A) short, concise, and precise, but using non-layperson vocabulary, B) using layperson vocabulary, but it's longer, drawn out, and not precise?

I’ve seen a lot of people on here be teased for difficulty expressing themselves. Either people complain “you’re using big person words to describe mundane things” when they’re aiming for precision or “woah, we don’t need that damn wall of text” when they’re aiming for clarity. It’s like people just want to...

Why does a state like California that has supermajorities in both houses of the legislature not have a livable wage, housing guarantees, universal healthcare, and other very progressive policies?

I keep being told it’s because of the Republicans that we can’t have nice things. So what gives in California? We should be overflowing with progressive policies.
