• The episode title of course refers to a popular party game. In the PRO episode, “Mindwalk”, the Protogies where had to communicate with Dal using charades, because he didn’t learn any Morse code....
I’ve been fostering a family member for a month or so, and it all came to a head today. My wife and I tried, but the behavior was just too much for us to feel safe with our existing children. I hate that we’re giving up and I hate the circumstances that caused this, but it is what it is. If you’re in the same place please...
First off, I know ultimately I’m the only person who can decide if it’s worth it. But I was hoping for some input from your collective experience....
What sort of Post to Comment Ratio would you say is a good range for Lemmy / KBin?...
Say you have a script or something that gets run in cron/task scheduler and it needs a password… say to ssh to a raspberry pi elsewhere in your house....
I always struggle trying to decide whether or not to stay home when I’m feeling under the weather. How do you decide?
It’s Thursday, one of the worst days of the week. Not yet the weekend, but we’re already tired....
I am going on holiday in 3 days and of course my body decided a couple days ago to catch a cold…right before my long awaited holiday!!...
It seems like rumours and suspicions have solidified today. So I was genuinely interested to see who was presenting the 10 o’clock news this evening – and how the current BBC-related story was covered.
You are serving yourself pasta and you have zero access to tomato sauce. All you have in your pantry is ketchup (catsup.) Would you eat the plain pasta, or add ketchup for flavor?...
I don’t tend to eat much fish, but in the supermarket earlier I saw some smoked salmon which didn’t need cooking, and some salmon fillets which did. They looked the same really - both ‘raw’. I decided to buy some of the fillet. It was nice, but a very different flavour from when I’ve tried smoked salmon in the past....
With SSD storage, what what your thoughts on redundant storage devices (e.g RAID1), is it a waste, a nice to have or a must?...
I’m trying to understand how an app would even get that info in the first place, how that’s classified and why a mobile operating system even has a way to provide that data....
I’m thinking of things like heliocentrism where there was some modern discovery or revelation by science that invalidated a common assumption prior....
Since usernames are only unique to the instance it’s created on, what’s to stop someone from creating a copycat username in order to impersonate another user?

Every single time I talk to my friends, whom also want an *arr/Plex/VPN/Home Assistant setup like I’ve got, I can see the fear in their eyes when I mention Debian, Docker, and the terminal. It could be a case of “git gud”, but I want to help them out with a setup like this, but with as low friction as possible. Ideally...
While editing in an input field, I’m so used to going for Ctrl+W instead of Ctrl+Backspace because it’s more ergonomic. But almost all modern browsers use Ctrl + W to close tabs. Since when was this a convention? I’d love to go back in time and git revert this change. Incredibly frustrating....
It seems like for at least a decade every application/framework has had their own paste buffer, and honestly I’m surprised this isn’t “just working” out of the box by now....

Sorry if someone has already asked this. This is my first post on Lemmy. I mean, I guess you could ask the same question about Reddit but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be Read-It. But what does Lemmy mean? Is it a cute word for a small lemon?
