I haven’t been homeless, but I’ve been desperately broke and unemployable. I lived on a limited income that didn’t stretch the entire month. All my dishes had broken and I couldn’t save enough to buy new ones cause I had to keep buying paper plates for my meals. My mother bought me dishes for xmas and it was one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received because it freed me to start saving a little bit each month.

It costs more to be poor than it does to be rich. It’s a never ending cycle. You can’t go to CostCo and bulk up on frozen foods if you have no electricity to keep them frozen.

I lived in a nice place with direct sunlight late in the day and no AC (Bay Area, it’s pretty common here). During a particularly hot summer, I felt trapped late in the day and literally had to leave the house during the day because it was hotter than it was outside. I felt terribly trapped and I could fucking leave. Locking people in a hot room is cruel.

I really appreciate your pointing that out. He went into the “experiment” with completely wrong assumptions and never acknowledged that he was wrong. The valuable lessons that he could point out to people about why reversing living outdoors are completely absent.

It’s the sort of scenario where my brother said he wouldn’t give money to a panhandler cause they can get a job at McDonalds only for me to point out that McD’s likely wouldn’t hire someone who hasn’t bathed in a week and has no permanent address and they wouldn’t get paid for at least two weeks so now how does he buy a meal when he hasn’t panhandled all day. I’m thinking in the U.S. and Canada. For example, if you’re on vacation, you’ve checked out of your hotel room and have several hours until your flight, and you have some cans of beer left over. I know you could sneakily drink them in a park or something, but I’m just curious if there’s any way to do it that’s legal.
