The article had stuff about how the raised acids in the blood after a struggle make the effects of sedatives more dangerous. Plus the unknown state of chemical use before the encounter (a lot of arrests involve drugs or alcohol). Sedatives are pretty risky, imo.

I recognize the Plato shadows on a wall ref and someone commented about Sisyphus. Obviously, Saddam was in a hole. What’s the rest? Looks like pick-axe people are part of a 2d video game. I don’t get anything other than what I’ve described.

That “Mission Accomplished” banner still pisses me off.

South Dakota governor, a potential Trump running mate, writes in new book about killing her dog (apnews.com)

The Guardian obtained a copy of Noem’s soon-to-be released book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” In it, she tells the story of the ill-fated Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer she was training for pheasant hunting....

some_guy ,

“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, deeming her “untrainable.”

Sounds sane to me. Hating animals is cool.

I’m sure those Palestinians were born in handcuffs. And filled with bullets.

some_guy ,

Strange case. He was a leftist who meant to combat fascists but then chose to cheer them on in the fight against the system.

For serious, if an individual can’t get by on $10m (a number I pulled out of thin air) they don’t have what it takes to be in the world.

The new class war: A wealth gap between millennials (www.cnbc.com)

There may be another factor creating so much wealth among millennials: inheritances. In what’s known as “the great wealth transfer,” baby boomers are expected to pass down between $70 trillion and $90 trillion in wealth over the next 20 years. Much of that is expected to go to their millennial children. High-net-worth...

some_guy ,

The surge in wealth among millennial heirs is also creating a lucrative new market for wealth-management firms, luxury companies, travel firms and real estate brokers.

Leaches.

With the artillery that’s out there these days, it’s almost a certainty.

some_guy ,

Ha. My partner caught our longhair on the table happily chomping the flowers she’d brought home just yesterday.

some_guy ,

This was in January. Why is it being posted now? I mean, I guess I’m happy to know that this org made their position known on this issue of genocide, but I’m not surprised three months after the fact.

some_guy ,

Suspended for having an unpopular (with the establishment) opinion. It’s funny how young people across the country are against genocide. It’s almost as though the older generations are completely out of touch. Kind of like with the USA war of aggression in East Asia (Vietnam) protests back in the day.

The olds have been indoctrinated to think Israel can do no wrong. They are steadfast against finding out that they were themselves wrong.

some_guy ,

I thought we’d have mass uprisings when we saw all the videos of police over-reach / violence in 2020. That it didn’t happen then sort of quelled my expectation that it could ever happen, but who knows? This conflict is sustained in a way that has really touched a nerve with young people.

Instagram Advertises Nonconsensual AI Nude Apps (www.404media.co)

Instagram is profiting from several ads that invite people to create nonconsensual nude images with AI image generation apps, once again showing that some of the most harmful applications of AI tools are not hidden on the dark corners of the internet, but are actively promoted to users by social media companies unable or...

some_guy ,

I would’t have thought to train an LLM to create nude but say nothing about that when presenting it to Apple for App Store review only to then advertise that feature elsewhere. Damn.

Bucky Fuller

Now I know the source of that sample in the Incubus song New Skin. I’ve been curious about that for two decades. Thanks!

And Trump’s jackass reversed the Obama guy’s thing in like January of his first year. Now we get proper regulation for less than a year again, assuming Biden continues kissing Israel’s ass.

some_guy ,

I emailed the Ars Technica article to my Trump voting mother on jackass what’s his face when Trump appointed him and accused her of harming the internet. We have a no-politics rule now because of how angry I grew over time with that orange fuck. It was my idea. Saved our relationship.

I used it for my earbuds case for a long time. I don’t buy many pairs of jeans and wore the same pair for most of the pan (I didn’t leave home for more than a couple hours of walking and listening to podcasts most days, so they only got washed sporadically). It eventually wore through and frayed. I’ll probably resume that usage when it gets warm enough not to carry a hoodie.

Oh, second post: Steve Jobs taught us that that’s where you put your iPod Nano.

New York prosecutors in Trump's hush money trial say former president continues to violate gag order (apnews.com)

Prosecutors said Thursday that Donald Trump again violated a gag order in his hush money trial, as the criminal case resumed on the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court weighed whether he should be immune from prosecution for actions taken during his time as president....

some_guy ,

Someone said they thought this was due to Trump abusing the appeals system. I have no way to judge the merit, but it seemed logical enough.

some_guy ,

Thanks for reminding us.

some_guy ,

Does anyone know the basis for this judgement? I consciously avoid looking up news because the world is terrible and it makes me depressed. But getting it filtered through Lemmy is somehow easier to digest because we support one another in viewing terrible things as terrible.

some_guy ,

Didn’t know about her, but now I do. Sounds like a great person on the side of users / the people.

Wu has been absent from social media since June 2023, reportedly after receiving a police visit due to her public criticisms of Signal and Chinese keyboard apps.

Sigh…

I think a lot of people just got trolled in this thread.

Otoya Yamaguchi (山口 二矢, Yamaguchi Otoya, 22 February 1943 – 2 November 1960) was a Japanese right-wing ultranationalist youth who assassinated Inejirō Asanuma, chairman of the Japan Socialist Party, on 12 October 1960. Yamaguchi rushed the stage and stabbed Asanuma with a wakizashi-like short sword while Asanuma was participating in a televised election debate at Hibiya Public Hall in Tokyo. Yamaguchi, who was 17 years of age at the time, had been a member of Bin Akao’s far-right Greater Japan Patriotic Party, but had resigned earlier that year, just prior to the assassination.[1] After being arrested and interrogated, Yamaguchi committed suicide while in a detention facility.

Yamaguchi became a hero and a martyr to Japanese far-right groups, who as of 2022,[2] have continued to hold commemorations to this day.[3] Yamaguchi’s actions inspired a number of copycat crimes, including the Shimanaka incident in 1961, and inspired Nobel Prize-winning novelist Kenzaburō Ōe’s novellas Seventeen and Death of a Political Youth.[4][5] A photograph of the Asanuma assassination taken by Japanese photojournalist Yasushi Nagao won World Press Photo of the Year for 1960 and the 1961 Pulitzer Prize.[6][7]

These shitheads and their fucking political violence. If you thought your party could win the hearts and minds of the people, you wouldn’t need to resort to violence, you weak fuck. Same as shitheads defending their all-powerful god from someone slandering them.

Baltimore County educator framed principal with AI-generated voice, police say (www.thebaltimorebanner.com)

Baltimore County Police arrested Pikesville High School’s former athletic director Thursday morning and charged him with allegedly using artificial intelligence to impersonate Principal Eric Eiswert, leading the public to believe Eiswert made racist and antisemitic comments behind closed doors....

Ravenell told police that she had forwarded the email to a student’s cell phone, “who she knew would rapidly spread the message around various social media outlets and throughout the school,” and also sent it to the media and the NAACP, police said.

Time for a civil suit. This one needs greater penalties than loss of employment. Stick within the system so it can be investigated rather than throwing it on social media and ruining innocent lives. What a complete piece of shit. Oh, and she should have to compensate the school district for all the time and taxpayer funds wasted.

some_guy ,

There isn’t much way to regulate it without banning the programs from the internet and our computers and only letting us use the tools through “certified” distributors with subscription models.

Enhanced sentencing for using it to commit a crime. Deterrent is likely the only partial solution.

some_guy ,

I just got done posting in another thread about how southern states elect leaders who attack their constituents. Tennessee is in the spotlight again for being horrible. It wasn’t until the last handful of years that Tennessee wanted to challenge Florida and Alabama for shittiest place to be. Most of my life, you barely heard about them.

some_guy ,

Netanyahu can suck it. He’s a piece of shit. So are all zionists.

some_guy ,

Nazi dogs are the worst because they look like good boys but then they’re nazis.

I didn’t realize bald eagles are crazy old men.

In response, Xiaolei Wu said he would “chop [the woman’s] hands off”. A federal judge has ordered that the 26-year-old be deported after serving his sentence.

Good. Get this piece of shit outta here.

He told her that he had informed Chinese authorities about her actions and that China’s public security agency would “greet” the victim’s family, the US Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts said on Wednesday.

Fucking asshole.

Science and history are fun because we keep adding new information and proving / disproving theories.

some_guy ,

The statement did not address media reports that the agent got into a fight with other agents and had to be handcuffed before being taken in for a medical assessment. The Washington Examiner first reported on the altercation.

some_guy ,

And I call him a genocidal lunatic racist piece of shit.

some_guy ,

Also allows the application of leverage on them after conviction to become cooperators, I’d think. Make the offer after conviction but before sentencing and then recommend leniency to the judge in light of promised cooperation.

some_guy ,

You’re clearly fluent if you describe “tickling any resemblance” of an effect. Learners would likely say something akin to “make me confused” or similar or less.

some_guy ,

The USA south elects leaders who attack their constituents in every way. Missouri is technically midwest, but it’s also southern in spirit.

some_guy ,

This will finally solve the problem. Just like arming all those cops in Uvalde.

some_guy ,

Interesting context. Thanks, I’ll keep this in mind.

some_guy ,

You’re right, it’s more nuanced and I jumped on the majority who (I perceive) conduct home schooling because they’re religious nuts. Glad you all turned out all right. Find some further left spaces. I bet you’ll want to push even further.

some_guy ,

I think the media needed an excuse for how Trump came into power that didn’t examine the societal ills that led to former Obama voters switching teams. Did Russia gaslight people on Facebook? Yes, undoubtedly. But I think it’s our crumbling society that he knew how to grift and exploit against people who don’t have a very good understanding of history and politics that got him elected. The media didn’t want to talk about that because it could lead to calls for change and they are big business.
