This reminds me in broad strokes of the thesis of Sakai’s Settlers, which is roughly contemporary. Socialist enterprise and markets can be competitive, in fact more competitive than a capitalist system. China is actually super innovative now, having caught up technologically with the west in part by leveraging the same import substitution policies and general disregard for other countries’ capitalist’s “intellectual property” which drove industrialization in the western nations.

The two big differences between socialism with Chinese characteristics and western neoliberalism are the fact that SWCC places at its core collective ownership of the means of production and state investment in developing said means of production. Whereas the west privatizes everything and only invests state funds in the further enrichment of the few who own said privatized means of production.

The switch to Forgejo is super easy, if you don’t mind everything being called “Gitea” you can just switch out the Docker image and carry on.

I just switched recently, maybe around version 1.19.

Forgejo is also working on federation which will give the system an advantage moving forwards. They’re also sticking with Gitea as an upstream source so reasonable changes Gitea makes should make their way to Forgejo pretty quickly.

Germany is doing this all very consciously, while knowing clearly what the outcome is.

In fact Germany claims one of its official reasons for existence is the defence of the Israeli state and its supposed right to exist. It’s considered anti-semitic and anti-German to criticize this position or to even express sympathy for the colonized peoples of Palestine. Allegiance to this official position may be required for naturalized citizens moving forward.

Meanwhile actual anti-semitism (violence against Jews, vandalization of Jewish property and symbols) goes on uncommented.

Countries are already moving towards bilateral currency swap agreements where possible, and some regional blocs are proposing multi-currency baskets or a non-aligned unit of account for their settling of accounts. We will see this trend accelerate as more and more countries realize that they are now free to make these agreements with the US no longer able to convincingly enforce its Bretton Woods dollar hegemony across the world.

There are also discussions occurring around a sort of Keyensian Bancor for the 21st century, something that BRICS is positioning itself to be able to facilitate, realistically maybe beginning sometime in the 2030s.

There are likely more options being discussed, yet more theorized, and maybe some new ones will be born out of the experience and knowledge gathered in the trial phases of various systems. What I do know is there will not be one single currency taking the place of the US dollar as global reserve currency. Not only is it unsustainable, it’s the opposite of conducive to a peaceful and prosperous humanity.
