Yes yes everything that doesn’t go your way is unfair and fake.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah sorry I should have been more clear that’s what I meant, but it didn’t go exactly the way they imagined in their head

18+ I wish I was Asexual.

Seriously I hate that. I always fantasize about having sex with very attractive women. It really grinds my fuck gears because I know that I will be a virgin forever because prostitution is illegal in Canada. So I unfortunately can not pay a very attractive 18 year old woman to have sex with me. I really wish that I was Asexual...

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Sex doesn’t need to define you, neither does being a virgin.

Sex is part of a healthy life but putting it on a pedestal and letting it impact your image of yourself will only lead to toxicity.

I wonder if we have any statistics for non-violent crime like theft, grocery stores keep going on about rising pretty theft and I have my doubts.

Don't you all get tired of the constant negativity?

Despite not subscribing to political communities and having a large number of content filters based on keywords, my feed here is still for a large part all negative articles and ragebait. Elon Musk this and Israel that. Microsoft ruining windows, AI ruining internet, right wingers and capitalism ruining the world, police being...

There’s always going to be important issues that are going to be difficult to debate without some level of emotion, especially when talking about politics or the environment, you have to remember that this personally affects people’s lives.

However it can get overwhelming and it’s important that you have the self-awareness to know when you need to step away.

I know it’s easy to judge the Internet by its worst actors but you have to remember that everyone needs to learn and be part of the discourse it’s not just the internet, that’s humanity.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

You have to be playing Devil’s advocate for the sake of it because every significant study done on the subject shows that piracy has a positive or at worst neutral effect on the industry.

Listen Microsoft is super evil but I I think most pharmaceutical companies have them beat.

I really like Deezer personally.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

You got me!

franklin , (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I wasn’t aware of that to be honest I knew they were all pretty low but I didn’t know Deezer was the lowest.

I just like their app. Going to have to look into tidal I guess, although considering I haven’t really changed my music taste for a while, I might consider band camp at this point.

Actually you know what I’ve talked to myself into it. I’m just going to download my music with Bandcamp and use syncthing to have it wherever I need it. Thanks for the inspiration stranger

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I just gave Bandcamp a look and was able to find some stuff that I wasn’t able to find anywhere else and got a chance to support the artist so that was pretty cool thanks.

No arguments here Linux gets better every day but I understand why some people still need Windows in their life

Can I refuse MS Authenticator?

So my company decided to migrate office suite and email etc to Microsoft365. Whatever. But for 2FA login they decided to disable the option to choose “any authenticator” and force Microsoft Authenticator on the (private) phones of both employees and volunteers. Is there any valid reason why they would do this, like it’s...

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

When setting up the authentication when it asks you to set up Microsoft authenticator there should be a drop-down at the bottom of the page that says use another option that will allow you to use a phone call or text message as your chosen method of authentication.

It’s fundamentally easier to do things when Congress licks your boots, who knew.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

With how much climate anxiety I have I always think about ways I could cut back and use my car as little as possible, which makes it all the more upsetting when my work tries to get me to go back to the office and burn unnecessary fossil fuels, then I remember that the reason they’re doing this is mainly financial justification for the office space and political favors and it’s deeply upsetting.

Main issue is Gemini traditionally uses it’s training data and the version answering your search is summarising search results, which can vary in quality and since it’s just a predictive text tree it can’t really fact check.

Since it was the chip from the Nintendo switch that was used for the original Nvidia Shield I wonder if what the switch to we’ll see a revision?

Probably just wishful thinking, it seems like Nvidia’s core strategy isn’t the consumer market anymore.

Imagine if someone took every mistake you ever made and magnified it as if you weren’t allowed to grow or change.

That’s you, that’s what you sound like

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

You can’t say if he’s proud of it or not currently. All I know for sure is that actions speak louder than words and it’s the most action we’ve gotten a long time.

Is it the solution we need? No. However anytime he tries to do anything broader he’s blocked by Congress so I can’t hold too much at his feet.

franklin , (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Unfortunately, it’s well understood that political engagement especially when in a debate is an emotional undertaking.

Complicated further by the fact that we tend not to change our assumptions even when presented with data that proves otherwise.

We are a tribal species whose emotions are not geared towards understanding the far reaching and nuanced decisions we are faced with.

Connected cars’ illegal data collection and use now on FTC’s “radar” (arstechnica.com)

The Federal Trade Commission’s Office of Technology has issued a warning to automakers that sell connected cars. Companies that offer such products “do not have the free license to monetize people’s information beyond purposes needed to provide their requested product or service,” it wrote in a blog post on Tuesday. Just...

In the past I would have been dismissive however the FTC seems to have been very active with enforcing consumer protections as of late so I remain hopeful.

The insane part is that college has a good chance to have no effect on your overall earning potential. Polymatter did an excellent video on it recently.

Sadly all too common, one of my friends has a master’s of structural engineering and he drives an Uber for a living

My area in particular gets a lot of housing market “investment”.

The going rate for a one bedroom is $1400 a month or $460,000 for a single family home in the suburbs with no access to public transport.

It’s rough out here.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

It does get that high $1400 are basements in tare down neighborhoods

franklin , (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it’s an inelastic demand.

Our zoning codes, car centric infrastructure, and investment firms having control over supply have priced an entire generation out of a human right.

franklin , (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I wasn’t trying to build a statistically significant argument, just giving my anecdotal woes of the local economy.

However median income for my area is $62,000. Rent range is $1400 - $3000 I gave the low end. Average is about $2,300. Hopefully that gives context.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I wish it was possible, a citizen’s co-op sounds amazing.

I will say I’ve seen it tried with varying degrees of success so It’d have to done carefully.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

A $1 million median is insane, even going by median cost of ownership in my area for a fairly standard single family home is $550,000, you could get away for $450,000 on the low end though.

I guess it can always get worse. The part that strikes me is that I live in an area that is fairly low density and was previously known for its home affordability. So I would say you’re right, that plus investment firms buying up a lot of the available housing. Not to mention the additional cost that car centric infrastructure lays on the individual.

I really hope things improve but I won’t hold my breath.

RISC-5 is a CPU architecture like x86 (AMD and Intel) or ARM (Qualcomm, Apple, Samsung, Google).

It’s main differences are that it is an open architecture. It is still early in it’s life cycle but it’s already showing promising advancement.

I’m not as well educated on this part of it but I remember reading that it is more efficient for a certain types of common calculations that have long since been an issue for x86. As noted though citation needed.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

The second! Thanks I’m not the most well versed on the subject but I help where I can

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah but also it’s a bullshit requirement. Should be removed imo.

It doesn’t need it for crossplay.

I think they know this, it’s why they’ve been releasing everything on of PC. It’s just a win win for them they can have their timed exclusives and get access to another market of players.

Please Sony, give us Bloodborne

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Fair, PS4 emulation is going to take a couple years though at least for bloodborne level optimizations

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

It really bothers me how they’re so willing to lay every Injustice at one side without considering the other or the other areas of the political apparatus they can effect.

But I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised that’s business as usual

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

You’re right upon submitting it to scrutiny of the source that had originally broke down that quote I believe I was incorrect about the part of the violent protests.

I’m very aware that it was about the Democrats lack of support for his movement and their inaction during that time. The failures of the democratic party are very clear.

I’ve never taken issue with what you’re saying. You can repeat it as much as you want, not even telling you to delay action I wish you would take action right now. What you are encouraging though is absolutely inaction in every sense of the word.

To put your logic to the test please explain to me how the 20-year low of voter turnout for the Democrats in 2016 was able to meaningfully affect policy.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

If you don’t make a choice one is made for you, even if the choice is a flawed one.

franklin , (edited )
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

None of that addresses my critism of your point of view.

This is literally advocating for inaction. Not even local participation or groups they can support in the meantime to achieve your goals.

Well I think I’ve got as much out of this as I possibly can. At this junction I will agree to disagree.

franklin ,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I sure hope that dude is a troll or a bot I really try to give most people benefit of the doubt but those might take the cake was the most insane takes I’ve ever heard.
