A VPN operates on the network layer (3) meanwhile a proxy works on the application layer (4) that sits on top of first.

This means that using a vpn will send all network traffic from all apps over it (if configured accordingly) meanwhile a proxy will only work for the http(s) traffic in a browser configured with it.

For most applications, you won’t be able to tell the difference.

I was explaining to my daughter about the differences between Gimp and Photoshop and saw that Adobe had a page that claimed to compare the two. It never compares the two. It barely mentions Gimp. (www.adobe.com)

I expected ridiculous propaganda from Adobe, but they give absolutely no reasons why Photoshop is better than Gimp and list a bunch of things that Gimp can do too....

How do you get people to wash their vegetables when you're at their house and you don't wanna seem rude?

So awkward, but come on it says right there on the package to wash those mushrooms or whatever it is… You’re not their mom but you don’t wanna eat feces or whatever ended up on the produce. A quick rinse is never going to be perfect but it’s better than nothing....

  • Except vitamin D, deficiency is very widespread
  • And iron for most women
  • And sometimes magnesium for sports (which we should all do)

VPNs for internet access, at least the way they are advertised

The shoes I get but what’s unhealthy about shaving and redrawing eyebrows? Just curious, if you just don’t like that then that’s valid ofc.

Every of your links is about the webmail app not nextcloud as a whole

Actually no, a VPN does not protect your computer at all.

Edit: Neither your privacy. You’re mostly tracked though cookies and other identifiers on the application level. A VPN only helps to hide your IP address on the network layer, but you don’t really need that.

Because newspapers are not forced to give out their news for free. But they have to give you an alternative to selling your data; taking money from you in this case.

I used to wash them daily but it made them shrink a bit whereas wearing for 2-3 days makes the fabric a bit wider. As I have pretty wide feet, narrow socks just hurt at the end of the day. So I wear them 2-3 days depending on sweat and dirt.

finn_der_mensch ,

This! And at least over here socks come in shoe sizes.

It’s true

Valve being a cool company might be true and all but I think there’s also the real reason that steam makes money by selling games, and making it easy for users to stick to gaming (with steam) ensures ongoing income. Imagine someone who now loves gaming on TV but being annoyed by their broken steam link - what are they going to buy next? A PlayStation and years without a game sold to them.

Nah come on. Fedora and Gnome have to be aware to be very big Linux related projects and of course both have a responsibility for the default applications they ship; i.e. it shouldn’t be malware and neither should it be shit. The Linux desktop community has to pick up users where there are if this all is supposed to be actually used. As is „users“.

I Guess it should be capitalized, but still.

You have the answer to your problem in your own post. So what exactly do you expect to happen here?

Edit: Just noticed you actually wrote it the second time in CAPS LOCK so that way it isn’t marked.

Another clue in your own post 🤣

Why are people downvoting ? Yes I love Linux too and all, but be honest. It is not relevant in the mass desktop market. That didn’t make it more easy for Ubuntu touch.

Overall you‘re right but in which world is tor generic and unmodified 😂

Like GEMA in Germany? You don’t want that.

When there isn’t any stored data to be sent, they could easily send fake/random data in requests though. So then it’s not detectable if data is stored and sent or not. How would you make up for that?

finn_der_mensch ,
@finn_der_mensch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Easier to calculate with years AND longer days? Take my money, I’m in

finn_der_mensch ,
@finn_der_mensch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

At home either you’re responsible on your own or your landlord is, in fact in Germany many people rent. Here there is a law already: if requested, the landlord has to install an EV charger. In many parking lots of businesses at least where I live chargers already exist. I don’t know if this is another law or if it just works in that field.

Nginx is supported and a good choice. What database are you using? I’d recommend MariaDB.

finn_der_mensch ,
@finn_der_mensch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Ah right, sorry; the company doesn’t support it directly but the docs provide an example. To me as tinkerer that was solid enough 😂😅

So in the graph you can see how windows lost some market share, macOS is the winner in that and all the others incl Linux are unaffected.

Exactly, lift what’s left in the picture and pull towards you. It will push a hole through the carton with the right part which you can push down to support the plastic a bit. Note these cartons cannot be closed again. EDIT: they can at least partly, see below

finn_der_mensch ,
@finn_der_mensch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Well, they can be closed in the sense of „no fly gets in“, but oxygen does. Not to mention that juice would definitely flood out if you lied this on the side.

I find that to be a good manual for beginners, thanks for sharing :)

If I subscribe to a community that's from a different instance than my "home" instance, where should I browse to see that community?

For instance, I made an account here in Lemmy.world because it seemed like a nice, well rounded place to start. However, I want stuff from TTRPG.network to show up when I browse my “frontpage,” but all I see is my Lemmy.World communities....

You should be able to switch to the “subscribed” or “all” feed from the top in the liftoff app.

As we have ultimately have set all of our private clocks with public ones as well, we always have to decide which public clock is more trustworthy in those moments. Except if you use a very precise sun dial.
