Months. Most of the time the potatoes go Eldritch horror and start looking for soil before they get in any way bad. I’ve had a few shrivel, but I’ve never had a moldy potato I had to throw away.

I also don’t eat potatoes very often. The ones In buy tend to serve a long sentence.

I think the argument being made here is that what you have described is egregious enough and also a fair take on what is alleged to have happened.

Unlike saying “a guy jumped a turnstile and police opened fire for $2” which now looks like a ragebait equivocation.

Liz Cheney blocked January 6 scrutiny of Ginni Thomas, book says (www.theguardian.com)

Liz Cheney, the Republican vice-chair of the House January 6 committee, did “all she could” to protect the rightwing supreme court justice Clarence Thomas and his wife, the political activist Ginni Thomas, by blocking an in-depth investigation of Ginni’s involvement in Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020...

In the most non-judgemental way possible, I have literally no idea what you or the person you are responding to are talking about, and it smells totally delusional.

Glad you are living your best life, but there’s some weird non-confrontational false equivalence that is extremely goofy here.

BTW…

Also kudos to you for your modding last couple days.

What jobs in the US (Kentucky) Allow employees to wear whatever you want?

I’m scouting for jobs I’d actually enjoy working at as opposed to just “getting a job cus I should get a job”. I’m 20 btw, not independent yet, but I’d still like to have a job ya know? The only Job I know of that is mega lax with their dress codes are (i think) Hot Topic and Spencer’s. Do you guys have any other...

But what could you do without throwing your life away? Basically you would have to hijack a plane to increase security. Regular appeals by a person claiming to be a time traveler… might not be taken seriously.

IDK, 1 day is prob insufficient for finding and neutralizing unless you’re Liam Nissan, John Dick, or Katie Holmes.

dream_weasel ,

This is a little different. Whereas executives might not have any requirement on education or performance, in the US at least you’ve got 6 years education And 2 years residency to become an MD. It is still crazy money considering I’ve got 11 years in a PhD with an actual contribution to a field, but not insane compared to a 4 year degree or less.

New Cheat Code Discovered in Sega Saturn Doom After 27 Years (www.retronews.com)

A new cheat code for the Sega Saturn version of Doom has been discovered, 27 years after the game’s original release in 1997. This newly found cheat allows players to make walls in the game semi-transparent, offering a unique gameplay feature that was previously unknown.

At that price point and size you are getting a junk TV. Probably of the “buy again in 2 to 4 years” kind of variety. You’re going to have to pick price, size, or quality, and I hope you’re aware you’ve kinda eliminated quality from the start. If you already know that, kick butt go do your thing. If you’re trying to get a good TV at 70 inches for less than $1000, you’re on a fools errand.

Maybe women hunted, probably they did, maybe they didn’t. Being able to run 100+ miles is freaking cool and great.

You DONT ENDURANCE HUNT into the next state. This is shit “evidence” of anything. It does not matter if you can lift 25% of not very much 2000% more than someone else can lift 25% of a lot, or if you can walk until 8 days from now and be less tired than someone else.

The premise is probably true that men and women both hunted, but endurance++ isn’t a cut and dry argument for being a good huntress.

Peace. Don’t associate with men. We will all be happier the fewer people you associate with.

dream_weasel ,

What does this even mean? What fraction of men do you presume are abusers for one, and for two, are you assuming every man knows every other man and we just bulk regulate?

This is some “all black people know each other” kind of stupid.

I’m a pretty good cook, but I don’t think there’s enough here to get it done. Do rice and lentils take about the same amount of water to cook? How much oil?

All our accounts are totally joint and wife and I carry basically the same credit cards. No reason to be separate IMO. Only need one check book that way and I can pay all the bills for all the cards in one place.

dream_weasel ,

Expensive is pretty subjective. Anything less than about $200 no discussion required. Above that, we usually have a courtesy conversation. We’ve never had a hard no spending if one of us really wants or needs something, but a required justification or notice prevents impulse buys.

Joint also doesn’t mean you can’t have an account (or a bucket or a tally) where you save for something you want, it just means it’s not a secret.

The pro tip that we had to give out in college for the newcomers to the ballroom team every semester to mitigate body odor (edit: done in exactly this order):

  1. Shower with soap.
  2. Apply deodorant with antiperspirant.
  3. Put on clean clothes.

You would be surprised how many people in college don’t understand the nuances of these points. Or other basically accepted hygiene practices of the area. For example, cologne or perfume is not “deodorant”. Also, most things are not clean after you wear them (esp if you sweat), and dont become clean again until they are laundered. You may also notice we had to specify “with soap” for a shower.

The bit about antiperspirant is not strictly necessary, but nobody wants to put their hand near or accidentally in a sweaty pit.

Yeah that’s how it is pitched. Also why I picked numbers and not bullets, but I suppose I could have been more explicit.

Drivers Hate The Tech In Their Cars (jalopnik.com)

It turns out that more technology in cars isn’t necessarily something customers want, and it’s not really improving their driving experience. We know my thoughts on the matter, but I’ll do my best to stay impartial on this latest survey from JD Power that shows most customers don’t appreciate technology in cars unless...

I guess I’ll be alone in saying I don’t want a bmw cockpit with a button for every feature of the vehicle.

I like the rocking, turning console selection wheel Audi does, and I like the two wheels that also click forward and back on the steering wheel that Tesla does (and also gear stalks with buttons on the end). The only other thing that should maybe be a knob or button is climate temp or blower speed, but that is nicer when it’s adaptive like a thermostat.

Minimal interface for me please, just don’t force me to touch navigate the touch screen while I’m driving.

dream_weasel ,

So fucking true. After 5 years in a model 3, anything else is just too cluttered and full of junk.

I will say though I wish there was a console selection wheel that you can spin or push or click to supplement the touch screen. It’s too ridiculous to have to try to touch while driving for both the danger aspect and also the aggravation of the bumpy road making it difficult.

The climate controls are great and the selector wheels in the steering wheel are a master work. It’s too bad Elon is a piece of shit and the car itself is not exactly the pinnacle of quality construction.

dream_weasel ,

I have to say I prefer launching climate control from my phone before I ever get in the car. And also I’d rather have the cabin try to keep a temperature automatically instead of forcing me to dick with the temp of the blowing air.

dream_weasel ,

I need music control and that’s about it. I sometimes like to set “minimal lane changes”, but that’s mostly for long haul and I can do it before I leave. My wipers are by and large well behaved.

A nova explosion may soon be visible in the night sky. Here's where and when to look (www.pbs.org)

In the second half of 2024, a nova explosion in the star system called T Coronae Borealis, or T CrB, will once again be visible to people on Earth. T CrB will appear 1,500 times brighter than usual, but it won’t be as spectacular as the event in 1054.

dream_weasel ,

I preferred to do Windows as a VM personally. Dual boot cost me a year before my Linux switch BC it was easier to boot Windows when I needed it. With VM I could do mostly Linux with maybe just vm to open a word doc if I needed it.

dream_weasel ,

So you understood most of what I meant, but we missed slightly. I agree that irregular verbs might be misconjugated or that they may tend back toward regular conjugations (see for example “to plead” in the legal sense, or “to hang” in the execution sense), but I specifically meant mismatched count. As a stickler, I would sometimes put lack of use of subjunctive or adding it unnecessarily (though the second is pretty uncommon) in the realm of a mistake but that could be because I like it and hate to see it fall out of use.

Also yes that’s what I was meaning for indirect and direct object pronouns (to/for whom vs who, or maybe more simply him/her/me vs he/she/I). Here you could also include “myself” or “themselves” or the slightly less natural sounding “themself”. I was trying to craft an example of creating a misunderstanding in English but it didn’t work as well as it does in Spanish for example where you can accidentally create reflexive verbs with a different meaning. I suppose though you are right: these are not mistakes a native speaker can really make because they have the knowledge that the word is changing.

For countability, I assume you mean the question of less vs fewer, and when you might pluralize words like ”water" and when you don’t. That is indeed an interesting topic.

Prestige dialects are not an example of a direction I would like to go, but as a counter I really appreciate that French DOES have the French academy to decide what is proper and what is not.

Im an American, I only speak one language natively because there’s not exactly a variety of spoken languages in the Midwest. Since high school though I’ve been “collecting” languages though and am passably conversant in a few. My wife’s extended family is all in France so French has been an important skill to develop. For me, the fact is that “deviations” from the book usually result in losing track of the meaning or losing track of the conversation. English is already hard enough without adding even more irregularity, so I tend to lean in on being precise and I think it’s a worthwhile effort. It is a real source of stress when the shoe is on the other foot.
