Anyone else find their brain's particular quirks get in the way of creative processes?
Example: trying to compose a piece of music but you fixate on a single passage and cant stop playing with it like endlessly transposing it etc. and you get completely stuck at that point as a result?

Professionals get highly irritated if one knows too much stuff on their field.

Was today at the pediatrician with the kid. When I said that I think the wound between his toes might be athletes food, because there was some fluorescence under UV light, he was kinda confused and asked me about my profession.

Just by getting informed I create often remarkably irritating unusual encounters. I take that as occasional confirmation that I am a bit different.

I'm curious—how do we feel about any/all of the following labels? Are we ok with them? Offended by them? Have attitudes changed at all recently? I've noticed we don't all use the same vocabulary here.

• on the spectrum
• ASD
• has autism
• with autism
• is autistic
• Autistic
• Autist

Hypothesis to be discussed with the @actuallyautistic:

The high prevalence of in Autistics might be just the symptoms of an overstimulated life, misunderstood communications and lots of trauma that led to cPTSD.

Would also explain why ADHD meds very often don't work for Autistics - but certain antidepressants do.

What do you think?

RavenLuni ,
@RavenLuni@furry.engineer avatar

@rebekka_m @hauchvonstaub @actuallyautistic Can you talk about what led you to this hypothesis? I'm AuDHD. I wasnt diagnosed till I was 26 but the medication was definitely a life changer for me. I went from not being able to hold down a job to being successfully self employed. I've also eaten meat my whole life. As for earliness of symptoms, I was a nightmare for teachers the second I started school (which I think is the usual pattern anyway) :p

Is there a way to stop being tortured by every awkward moment youve ever had /assuming the worst about someone must be thinking when you see the confused look on their face?

Feeling pretty rattled after an interaction with a beggar but I guess even an NT would have trouble with this one:

  • walked by the first time

  • felt bad, so passed again and put what I had in my pocket in her cup (which happened to be £10)

  • saw her again later sheltering from the rain in a doorway and she called me over and thanked me which was fine but then she asked if I could give more and really started pleading.

Whats the moral here - are you not supposed to give people more than a certain amount?

I frequently have to re-read the same paragraph over and over again before it sinks in. It is really frustrating, and makes reading a book take forever. It even happens when I’m listening to an audio book.

Do you struggle with this?

Looks like I'm completely shadowbanned on youtube again (I can see my own comments but nobody else can not even the channel owners) meaning I cant participate in any live stream chats. As far as I can tell its the stupid AI reacting to something completely random then blocking everything from that point onwards. I've definitely said nothing wrong or inappropriate.
As an example of random comments that get blocked: "lycan subscribe if youre a werewolf" is one - crime of the century that one...

The vast majority (but NOT all) humans live with alexithymia, making it difficult for us to either engage or express (sometimes both) with our emotional state.

When combined with interoception issues (in our bodies) we lose access to just about all feelings besides those that we intellectualize.

Getting in touch with both our emotions and our physical embodied sensations is essential for living fully.

I once had a relationship with an AuDHD male. He had a certain trait. It's not very common, but I have heard from people that experience this.
It was scary and it ended the realtionship. He used to get into a form of meltdown where he would be uncontrollably agitated.. Rage, despair, IDK what to call it. It looked like anger. And then he would loose the memory about what had transpired. He did not recall what he had said or how he had behaved. It must be hard to live with this, cus I am sure, it wrecks relationships, period. Now I am curious, have any of you this trait, has anyone experienced this, either in my role or in his? I would be interested to hear more about this. I recently talked to him after many years of silence. It brought this all up. He didn't know about his neurodivergence at the time. And it scared the heck out of him to be hearing me describe, what took place, when he stopped having memory.

I know this feeling well. Its one thing the medication doesnt help with. Helping her is probably the best thing you can possibly do - going through whats needed and whats not needed (that can cause terrible cognitive dissonance).

Does this happen to you:
I often have trouble focusing while my hearing fades in and out at about 1 second intervals. It's like there's some muscle or something pulsing behind my ears at the back of my nasal cavity.
I used to think it was an anxiety thing, before it was diagnosed with autism (but after I was dx GAD and CPTSD). But I have never heard of a similar experience in anyone else.
