They don’t meet the us safety standards. It could mean a lot of things like lacking 5mph bumpers, air bags, abs, etc.

Doesn’t mean they aren’t safe.

Brkdncr ,

Just because a vehicle doesn’t meet us safety standards doesn’t mean they aren’t safe. It also doesn’t mean they are safe.

Also, aren’t these all 25 years old or older? Safety expectations should be lower.

AMD has preemptively dropped support for Windows 10 on its new Ryzen AI 300 Series chips (www.tomshardware.com)

In another attempt to convince us that “AI PCs” are somehow fundamentally different from the PCs we’re already using, AMD has officially dropped support for Windows 10 from its new AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series platform. This can be observed by glancing at the official AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 specs page, which now only lists...

“Amd won’t support OS that isn’t supported anymore”

This isn’t news and it definitely doesn’t need the commentary it’s receiving here.

Brkdncr ,

No new hardware being sold comes with windows 10. They have no profit incentive to support it.

Feeling lost and with no direction, what skill should I learn?

Hi everyone. I am feeling like I’ve lost any direction after getting laid off earlier this year (was working as an analyst in telecom and very recently landed a much lower position in healthcare data entry due to necessity). I already have several hobbies but I am either burnt out on them or they have lost their luster...

I’m taking some welding classes later this year. Being able to fix or create things with a welder seems like a useful skill to have.

I suspect the intro classes are all the same regardless if you take welding into the art direction or the mechanical direction.

If you have a 1-click exploit for iOS, you’re not using it on a shitty movie site. You’re selling it for top dollar to governments.

Can't access webserver from WAN after Opnsense upgrade

I finally decided to upgrade my opnsense box after a couple of years of deferring and, in the heat of the moment, forgot to double-check I had configuration backups. After the upgrade to OPNsense 24.1.8-amd64 (FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE-p11), there were some issues with LAN clients accessing the WAN that I solved by resetting to...

“Per our discussion, you do not want to hear anything more about updating from a windows 7 machine that is no longer being updated, no longer receiving security fixes, and is end of support, to my recommended windows 10/11 machine. You’re aware that I have advised you that not updating is possibly a HIPPA violation.

This email confirms that I will no longer bring the subject up again.”

That’s it. CYA and print that Sent item out. Move on to the next issue.

Pass interference is basically attacking the person instead of the ball before it’s caught. It’s up to the refs to decide how much PI they let slide though because a 100% clean game wouldn’t be fun to watch and would get stopped nearly every passing play.

There’s a lot of other confusing rules too like designated receivers, illegal shift, and one about linesmen being to far forward.

110 is hot. 90’s in this area is fine in the shade with a breeze because it’s so dry your sweat evaporates easily and keeps you cool. Once you get into triple digits your basically slow-roasting.

$$$.

Front engine, rear drive is easy to build. Good driving characteristics until you lose traction in the rear, which isn’t hard because there’s not much weight back there. You get over steer which isn’t the easiest to deal with.

Front engine, front drive is cheap to build. Good driving characteristics until you start pushing the limits, then you get under steer which is easy to deal with by letting off the gas.

Rear engine, rear wheel drive. Same cost advantages of Front/front but has some quirky driving characteristics.

Rear engine, front drive: nope.

AWD: better driving characteristics, more cost and more weight.

Mid engine, rwd: similar to rear/rear, but costs more, better handling.

Brkdncr ,

AWD adds weight, cost, and traction regardless of the engine layout.

“The year of Linux on the Desktop” is in the article. This again? Been reading this for decades and it’s still not true.

Linux is close, but has some core flaws that will forever keep it out of mainstream acceptance by your average user.

Test your setup by camping in your backyard.

In the US we have KOA campgrounds which have a camp host and usually a store. I used them for my first RV trip and found it to be very helpful. Maybe you have something similar?

Can I refuse MS Authenticator?

So my company decided to migrate office suite and email etc to Microsoft365. Whatever. But for 2FA login they decided to disable the option to choose “any authenticator” and force Microsoft Authenticator on the (private) phones of both employees and volunteers. Is there any valid reason why they would do this, like it’s...

Brkdncr ,

While it’s not technically safer, MS does make it a lot easier to set policy’s where you check a box for MSAuth.

Since the config is less complex and easier, it’s demonstratably safer to implement it this way.

Are there any EV cars without any "technology"?

Like the title says, are there any EVs that just have a Bluetooth radio and that’s it? Like a normal car, not a smartphone on wheels? If not, do you all think that this will actually happen at some point? This is the main reason why I can’t (and will never) buy an EV. I like to have actual buttons everywhere on my car. I...

Mitsubishi has been selling one for nearly a decade. It’s not great.

Toyota has a Corolla hybrid that seems pretty close.

The issue is that why would they build a budget EV when they can sell an expensive, high margin, EV? The batteries are low supply, high demand so they should be wringing every dollar possible from it.

Things where federal and California regulations step in and force these vehicles into market.

Brkdncr OP ,

You can do that today with their setup I think. You would need to plug the pump into one of their batteries and run their solar panel to the battery. You’d also put the battery on grid power.

The article is focused on an inverter that pushes energy back to the grid, something we don’t have yet at this market level.

Brkdncr OP ,

Your breaker will pop. Just like if you were to run a hair dryer on each outlet.

Brkdncr OP ,

Maybe for a same-circuit device that’s consuming more than the breaker can provide? I don’t know enough about this tech but would expect this can be accounted for in some way.

Brkdncr OP ,

I’ve always thought that local gov should be able to provide a baseline level of access to the internet, with commercial vendors bringing services and value above that baseline. Sadly our elected representatives were convinced otherwise. I’m glad to see movement in the right direction though.

Brkdncr ,

That’s the point. Broadcom focuses on only the top consumers and desire everyone else to go away. They then focus only on what those top consumers want and their support staff can be cut down considerably.

It’s an interesting tactic that they have mastered.
