The core of my hobbies is learning how something is made or done. I learned to bake bread and sourdough by making tons of loaves. I learned to make my own beer. 3d printing is my peek into manufacturing industrially even though its a mere taste. I do meal prep to understand packaging and distribution.

I wouldn’t say it’s fun, most of the time, but it is incredibly satisfying and fulfilling.

How? Why? What? Never stop asking.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

These 3d printed ones. www.printables.com/model/59453-bookmark-basicI use tiny prints to finish up the last meters of a filament roll. I’ve made tons of these and give them away.

Do you still write notes with pen and paper?

With so much note taking apps nowadays, I can’t understand why does anyone still write notes with pen and paper. You need to bring the notepad, book or that paper to retrieve that information, and most of the time you don’t have it in hand. While my phone almost always reachable and you carry when you go out. For those still...

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Yep. I get distracted with my phone. I doodle on my notes. I enjoy writing in cursive, it’s so loopy! I like pens, they’re neat!

I also do bullet journaling, but not very strict to the original style. I just draw my own little boxes.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Risk of Rain 2: Get 5 to 10 movement items and just zoooooooom around.

Deep Rock Galactic: Drill thru the walls even when it’s not the best idea, because I just like the idea of destructible terrain and navigating in 3d.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Blech. Another military worshipping, boot licker clone. Whatever.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Good. If business plan relies on exploiting workers, then it’s a garbage business plan & deserves to fail.

They were all hot, white men with a bit of facial hair, and I honestly had a hard time telling them apart.

And sometimes they’re all named the same. youtu.be/MGurtL83zhY?t=107

A feud is heating up between Arizona workers and the world's leading chipmaker after the company claimed the US doesn't have the skills to build its new factory (www.businessinsider.com)

TSMC says the opening of its Arizona chip factory has been delayed due to a shortage of skilled workers. The company says it needs to bring Taiwanese workers to Arizona to get construction back on track. An Arizona union says US jobs are being threatened — and is urging lawmakers to deny the workers’ visas.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

It’s never a worker shortage. Pay well, and the workers will come. TSMC (as all big corps) are just greedy cheapskates.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

I 100% agree with you. All the carbon I save in my lifetime cannot compare to what’s emitted by an airline company flying empty planes just to reserve their airport terminals. nationalgeographic.co.uk/…/the-scandal-of-ghost-f…

That said, I can’t save the world, but I can save my tiny corner of it. Maybe I’m just a yard fence against a dam breaking flood, but something in me compels me to try. I’m not gonna lose sleep over the tiniest shred of plastic I trash instead of recycle, but I will do my best.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Never heard of Escape Simulator, but looks like I’m about to give it a shot. Portal is literally top 5 game for me.

Looking for games with strong female leads for my daughter (even just to watch as I play). Came across this link, but they're a bit age-inappropriate. Any suggestions from the community? (gameranx.com)

Edit: Daughter is only 5 so she’s unlikely to play much but she watches me and as long as it’s not too violent, it should be fine

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

I second this. The violence is to be avoided! The mc is terrible with guns, intentionally. I tried a few times to fight, as it’s an option, but it was always worse than parkour-ing around.

Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak' (www.rawstory.com)

Evangelical Christian leader Russell Moore revealed this week that many evangelical pastors have become alarmed that their Trump-loving congregants have become so militant that they are even rejecting the teachings of Jesus Christ. In an interview with NPR, Moore said that multiple pastors had told h...

GrayBackgroundMusic , (edited )

Moore also said that one problem is that many Christians simply feel alienated and lonely, as politics have come to take over the community outlets that churches once held.

Oh, hey, it’s basically me. There isn’t room for “love your neighbor as yourself” in the Republichristian party. I don’t feel welcome at church anymore.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

I’m frustrated by the current largely-unethical state of the games industry

It’s the fate of any large enough company in a capitalist system. Greed creates/incentivizes this behavior and then rewards it. Microtransactions and dark patterns wouldn’t exist if they didn’t work. Greedy people know this and the rest of us are plagued by them.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Risk of rain 2. It defaults to medium difficulty when you close the game. Sometimes I forget to switch it and I’m swiftly reminded of it.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Adam Hays, who owned Red Rock before selling the franchise in 2021, said his sales representative did not observe that Casteel’s mother had any cognitive issues. He said HomeVestors demanded its franchises maintain a “strict standard of integrity and honesty.”

Utter bullshit. I’d bet they totally did and don’t care in the slightest. A sale is a sale. Greed is greedy.

What are some game genres / styles you like that aren't being made anymore, or are being mde but not very often?

For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Turn based strategy. As others have said, RTS’es, as well, but TBS. Yes, Civ series isn’t dead, but everything else seems to be. Master of Magic (1994) is literally one of my favorite games of all time (none of the sequels or successors measure up). Colonization, also 1994, (warning, MANY ethical issues) had a great logistic and economic model… (Just ignore eeeeeeverything about the white-washing of history/slavery/indentured servitude/genocide.) Alpha Centauri. Maybe I’m just old.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

limited inventories are kind of abused currently and that unlimited inventory systems would give more player choices.

In some sense that’s correct. You’d have more options, but you wouldn’t take them. Having a limited inventory forces you to make choices. Yes, you can use that scroll/potion/whatever, because you’re gonna run out of room, so feel free. On the other hand, I think that many devs don’t consider inventory management enough! I think that it’s often an afterthought and could use more dev attention.

What game mechanics do you love and hate?

Hate: instakills. Diablo 4 and Risk of Rain 2 are my current games that have this. ROR2 is not as bad, you can prevent this by getting enough defensive items. D4 is worse about this. You can be chewing thru trash mobs just fine but get to a boss and immediately die. There’s no ramp up to this.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

I do. Thanks! I didn’t even realize there were mods.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Is this really a meme? It’s a screen shot.

Oxygen Not Included

2nd vote for ONI. Many hundred hours in it.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Prison Architect.

Space Haven, though it’s EA.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

That is amazing!

Reminds me of the Reboot version. youtu.be/k7SqlwATPeI?t=32

Which reminds me I’m old, lol.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Sounds like my situation. Running a program, it has an error and crashes. Support page says ask in discord. I do. Crickets. I ask again a day later. I get told off bc I asked once already and the devs know. I ask how I’m supposed to know that since literally no one replied to me. I was further chastised that I should know that they know. I gave up.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Do you have NSFW stuff blocked? I do, so I never see anything from that instance. 99% of the posts from there are flagged. (Some of the mod discussions are not flagged.)

This dude is your first, then lol. Angry reactions on tiktok. youtu.be/7XQpbEScIBI

What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

Have you ever played a game and wondered what if you could do something that it doesn’t really allow you to do, for example being able to move around blocks in Minecraft fluidly instead of in sectors, edit the world in Hogwarts legacy with spells, be able to fly in a world like Elden Ring or Elder Scrolls with epic sky...

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

I want Master of Magic but modern. I want all the same style of gameplay (squares, not hexes) with similar art style (not grimdark browns) but uprez to modern resolutions (still pixel, but tiiiiny ones). I don’t think turn based strategy with tactical combat is popular enough right now to justify it.

I want World of Warcraft but it’s an actual role playing game. It’s not. It’s got roller coaster dungeons and the main characters are putting on a stage play, not actually there. They hide main characters when they’re not needed or inconvenient. There are so many Plot-By-Stupid writing mistakes. I don’t know if it’s possible to create a world that actually seems plausible (not realistic, but plausible). I want to love the story of Warcraft again, but it’s been years.

I want a game that doesn’t get corrupted by rich executives trying to squeeze every last dime out of people, but has the fidelity that large resources allow. I hate microtransactions, even if I don’t use them. I play games to get out of the world and its disparity of incomes and being poor. People running around with things I’ll never buy just reminds me that rich people are there.

Stray really disappointed me. I want a real cat game.

Just an open world survival game, only you’re a cat, dealing with regular cat problems. You have to hunt, avoid larger animals, compete with other cats, figure out which humans are dangerous and which will give you treats, judiciously spray things to maintain your territory, maybe mate and reproduce (your sex and fertility...

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

So, maybe instead of Goose, Untitled Cat Game?

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

This double posted fyi

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Yeah, it doesn’t matter much except when you wanna view several communities on the same topic. I’d like to be able to see all the 3dprinting communities at once.

GrayBackgroundMusic ,

Sometimes I just wanna see all the 3d printing stuff, not everything I’m subbed to.
