I thought it was one of the most intense city builders I ever played. I love the genre, and I love this style. Pretty difficult as well.

Chee_Koala ,

So what you’re saying is you trust YouTube to do it right? With shorts? I got bombarded with bullshit in shorts, the 50 times they got it in front of my eyes somehow, I never watched any of that in my normal yt rounds. That algorithm is made to brainwash, not to serve you what you want.

Chee_Koala ,

My goal is to inform you that your N=1 is unrepresentative, I came in to say: “shorts algorithm suggestions were completely out of wack to my YouTube account(too!)” so now we have at least n=3, and if we can trust each other to say the truth, your ‘its a you problem’ is false. That’s important, because you accused someone of having certain interests, based on their experiences with that algorithm. I think that’s pulling the gun and putting too much ‘trust’ in a commercial YT algorithm, that worked for some (you I guess) but not for all.

Chee_Koala ,

With shorts specifically, on my old now non existant account, which had a scary good profile of me, I got washed with right wing bullshit and transphobia when it shoehorned shorts in my life. It knew very very well who I was and that I would not enjoy any of that. I notified YT through don’t show me this again buttons, and when it wouldn’t stop I informed them they had 7 days to get this out of my recommendations or I would close my activity at their website. They did not react, they did not make shorts an option, they did not get the right wing garbage out of the 3 shorts they managed to throw in my face somehow every day when using YouTube. This account was over 10yo. Seeing how good their normal recommendations were, I can only conclude it was broken or bought for shorts, and thus you should be extremely reticent/reluctant blaming it on the users when they get wierd stuff.

Headlamp tech that doesn’t blind oncoming drivers—where is it? (arstechnica.com)

TROY, Mich.—Despite US dominance in so many different areas of technology, we’re sadly somewhat of a backwater when it comes to car headlamps. It’s been this way for many decades, a result of restrictive federal vehicle regulations that get updated rarely. The latest lights to try to work their way through red tape and...

It’s great, I drive a low compact and because all the boomers around me drive a small tractor/SUV, whenever dusk starts I can look at all the pretty hard white suns behind me instead of traffic. If a big cargo truck can have good unobtrusive lighting, your fucking boomer mobile should also be able to have it, so it’s basically a choice made in the factory: yeah this will fucking blind everyone on the road, but think of how COOL it will look guys!!

Chee_Koala ,

It’s because this guy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prabhakar_Raghavan thinks that keeping people engaged on google search longer is what it is all about. Not finding what you search for, no, engagement with your search tool.

"He was the head of search for Yahoo from 2005 through 2012 — a tumultuous period that cemented its terminal decline, and effectively saw the company bow out of the search market altogether. His responsibilities? Research and development for Yahoo’s search and ads products.

When Raghavan joined the company, Yahoo held a 30.4 percent market share — not far from Google’s 36.9%, and miles ahead of the 15.7% of MSN Search. By May 2012, Yahoo was down to just 13.4 percent and had shrunk for the previous nine consecutive months, and was being beaten even by the newly-released Bing. That same year, Yahoo had the largest layoffs in its corporate history, shedding nearly 2,000 employees — or 14% of its overall workforce. " - www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-killed-google/

Advance Wars (1) for GBA, playing on the go in the forest!

Day 55 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (lemmy.world)

Today’s game is Red Dead Redemption 2. Me and a friend managed to find time to play Red Dead Online today and while we were delivering a bounty I came across this river and noticed how gorgeous the water looks (I have a thing for water in video games if you saw my Mario Galaxy Post). I quickly hopped over to single player to...

Chee_Koala ,

The start is really slow, did you manage to get past the prologue for a bit? Might be just enough te keep you interested!

Chee_Koala ,

That’s far enough along to know for sure it’s not gripping you :)

Is overwatch 2 really that bad?

I’ve played maybe 10 hours total of Overwatch 2 and it is incredibly boring (to me). But it seems to get lots of updates often, heavy monetization which sucks. The steam reviews are scalding. It really makes me wonder… is it that bad? Like really? It’s hard to gauge if the game is thriving or on deaath’s door…

Chee_Koala ,

Deadlock? If you need an invite (does anyone still, I genuinely don’t know?) HMU

Day 53 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (lemmy.world)

Today’s game is Mario Galaxy. I decided today was my day to be productive for once, and I dumped all my Wii games ROMs for safe keeping, along with all my Blu-Ray discs. While I was testing the Wii Games to see if they worked, I got distracted by Mario Galaxy....

Nintendo + Water = beautiful efficiency

Day 52 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (lemmy.world)

I was playing Sea of Thieves again with a Friend. We figured out we could get on top of the mast and were messing around with emotes. We thought it was the funniest shit ever. Here’s a screenshot I took of me laying on the Mast. I have another of me in a barrel too.

Chee_Koala ,

I had a lot of fun galavanting around in black flag, but then FU-bisoft pulled the big one on me, and did NOT cloud-backup my progress (even though cloud save is plastered all over the ui, thats only about the achievements). Then I was sad and stopped singing chanties. Maybe. Someday…

Chee_Koala ,

Didn’t know psychopaths were just showing themselves like this on Lemmy, wtf

Chee_Koala ,

Foamed up shit, but yeah… still shit.

The biggest difference currently would be the ability to be piloted? These glide bombs have huge range and can turn, so that’s my bet: these can be piloted through some connection and have a target location fallback or something.

iv.melmac.space/watch?v=5ArBt0AFKyU

Looks like it can have a connection or function autonomously, and the other factor making it a ‘drone’ would be cost compared to competing glide bombs. It’s also ground launched, which is similar to drones, but it does require a launch system of some sort, which a lot of drones do not :)

Chee_Koala ,

And you can’t stay underwater for the same length, you’ll get the bends. Maybe better to just scan it, what a nightmare.

Day 36 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots (Jedi Fallen Order) (lemmy.world)

Took this relatively early on, but while in the At-At i noticed the Storm Troopers in the chairs looked a little off while i was messing with the camera mode. You can definitely tell i’m not supposed to look too long at them. I thought it was cool though. Slap a Parental advisory logo on there and you have Album Art

Chee_Koala ,

36 Already damn… Keep on trucking sir/madame! Inspiring journaling shots :-)

Chee_Koala ,

Hahahaha, wow, what a bunch of wet noodles. If you don’t want negative discourse, maybe don’t be misogynistic. Or don’t publish your work in countries where free speech and personal freedoms are more abundant. No one is forcing you to publish here, so please keep your demands in your pants. Pffft, I was really interested in this game, now it’s such an easy pass!

Chee_Koala ,

I read some articles from 2020 that touched on the culture @ Game Science, but it doesn’t even really matter. It’s just the way they single out stuff that feels really put of touch, pretty (ignorant) boomer attitude. I’ve only heard the word “feminist propaganda” from folks who are misogynistic, it’s not something I associate with caring about inequality. Can you imagine being a woman influencer that got this message? I would think 3 times before partnering up with a party that gave me this dos and don’t list.

It’s probably something that can be attributed to cultural differences, but that doesn’t mean that much to me. You move in a culture, but you are still responsible for you actions and words.

Chee_Koala ,

Thanks a lot, I can imagine! It’s moot for me, sadly. Google maps is amazing too but I’m not on board with choices they are making so, can’t use that either. There’s enough games to take my mind of of missing this title. Have fun though!

Republicans ask Supreme Court to block 40,000 Arizonans from voting in November (www.latimes.com)

The Republican National Committee is urging the Supreme Court to intervene in an Arizona election dispute this week and block up to 40,000 of the state’s registered voters from casting ballots in the presidential race....

For NL:

Your ID costs money, but you are required to have one if you are not at home, so it’s difficult to make obtaining one difficult. :) you need it 100%.

Also prices are in a set range, from 0 euros to 75,80 (2024), depending on what the local municipalities decide is fair (in that range).

Proof of address is obtained from the “basic person administration” (BRP), when you obtain your ID. That address is used to send you your Voting Pass and candidate list, so this is where the loop closes. If you have your ID and Voting Pass, your address checked out.

Chee_Koala ,

Yeah but the time is ticking now for the lost Russian territory, so they can try and make retaking that more expensive :)

Most of desktop users don’t care at all about these gains. Slap in normal ram and an SSD and a 1000 series Ryzen is ready to be a run of the mill desktop, that browses and can show media no problem.

I care! But I’m a power user. Most aren’t.

Chee_Koala ,

Welcome! I have noticed the last week or two that there has been a real influx of activity, and it’s now basically the same experience for larger subreddits/lemmy communities. All we need is some niche community and better cross/instance community combining and we’re golden. Enjoy!

Chee_Koala ,

What about all those usb handshakes? It think it will just drain itself with heat and damage the battery slightly while doing so.

Chee_Koala ,

Marc Anthony is a singer/songwriter, pfffff.

Chee_Koala ,

Interesting! thanks for elaborating. A week or month ago, a local Ukrainski politician, I thought it was a lady person, proclaimed that using the Russian language the invaders use is like spitting in the face of your home country. She got a hell of a lot of pushback on that. That made it seem that a lot of locals still prefer Russian to Ukrainian language. Can you shed some light on those conflicting sentiments?

Was inspired to educate myself a bit extra on Cyrillic script, so, from the english wiki:

"As of 2011, around 252 million people in Eurasia use it as the official alphabet for their national languages. About half of them are in Russia. " … "The Slavic languages are conventionally (that is, also on the basis of extralinguistic features) divided into three subgroups: East, South, and West, which together constitute more than 20 languages. Of these, 10 have at least one million speakers and official status as the national languages of the countries in which they are predominantly spoken: Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian (of the East group), Polish, Czech and Slovak (of the West group), Bulgarian and Macedonian (eastern members of the South group), and Serbo-Croatian and Slovene (western members of the South group) "

Chee_Koala ,

Or they want to have others say: “I thought you were defending, why are you crossing the border” and so discredit the defending nation. As if cross border defense is somehow immoral in the face of total fascism and expansionism…

Chee_Koala ,

The duplicate community across instances could really use a solution, maybe like a multimunity?

Chee_Koala ,

There has been an upward trend in this, so ‘that has generally always been true’ is not true. I know because I drive proof of it, an EP9 1997 Toyota Starlet. I think the only thing that would really suck is replacing the electric cable tree or bigger dashboard stuff, everything else is basically directly accessible from the hood and trunk. Everyone that has owned a car around me knows that older cars are a lot more accessible for home repairs, so I’m interested to know where you got this?

Chee_Koala ,

That might be what really happened, but what does Trump think happened?

Chee_Koala ,

True, I think a doping league is something we could try. We just have a year or 2 of ONLY doping league, then open the clean league and have 100 % controls. But not all doping is testable, currently…

I’m riding this 6a all the way to bricktown, then I’m switching to a repairable alternative. Also never buying Google hardware or registering for Google services ever again.

Chee_Koala ,

No not really. I said it a bit vague because I think because of EU mandates more phones will be repairable(Soon TM hopefully). I wholly agree with you about the price of, for example, Fairphones. On the other hand my usage has changed radically from 10y ago, and consequently my phone is holding on much longer, so I’m saving up in the extra years this phone is surviving for a more expensive and arguably worse phone except for the repairability. Every day, it becomes worth more and more to me to be as independent from (large) corpo’s as possible, so effectively it’s becoming a better and better deal 😊. Same story for laptops, except it’s Framework instead of Fairphone

Chee_Koala ,

Oof, state actors already going against their own word and arresting/abducting protestors while they first confirmed they wouldn’t… Can’t make out if this is happening now or before PM resignation.

Hackers hope to democratize laser-based processor hacking — $500 RayV Lite relies on 3D printing, a laser pen, and a Raspberry Pi to bring costs down (www.tomshardware.com)

… “The first of two versions of the RayV Lite will focus on laser fault injection (LFI). This technique uses a brief blast of light to interfere with the charges of a processor’s transistors, which could flip them from a 0 value to a 1 value or vice versa. Using LFI, Beaumont and Trowell have been able to pull off things...

Here are the best Google Maps alternatives for finding your way: With a number of community-driven, open-source mapping projects, picking a navigation app without ads or tracking has never been easier (tuta.com)

repeated media reports of Google’s disregard for the privacy of the general public led to a push for open source, community driven alternatives to Google Maps. The biggest contender, now used by Google’s direct competitors and open source projects alike is OpenStreetMap....

Chee_Koala ,

Best info i could get is that they do a lot of bussiness to bussiness data stuff, and this nav app is like a showcase. That doesn’t feel great for long term, but you could use it as a secondary app?

Chee_Koala ,

Same!
