Why be stubborn just for the sake of it? I’d make coffee like this if there was no other option. Other methods will maximize your beans and provide a more refreshing cup of joe. I won’t call you a heathen lol just confused, life’s too short for mediocre coffee

CaptDust , (edited )

It’s “bold” because you’re extended steeping the grounds. I’ve had it like that camping but I’m not really into gritty textured beverages, thanks. I assumed you were just being contrarian to ‘coffee filters’ but if you actually legit enjoy it who cares. May it grow much hair on your chest

CaptDust ,

This is legalizing drugs with extra steps. Tax the shops and manufacturers, direct that money split into social programs, safe centers staffed by professionals and school funds.

CaptDust ,

Power stone, Ikaruga, Rez

CaptDust ,

The visuals and music are what kept me coming back to it for years hah, but I’ve only beat it scrub style with the assistance of ROM rewinds. Some games are designed to eat quarters, I think Ikaruga was designed to drain paychecks.

CaptDust ,

I haven’t played on PS2, but Rez Infinite uses additional controllers as trance vibrators. Great for parties!

CaptDust ,

some late night channel

Adult Swim, which to be fair, can often be classified as mass hallucination entertainment. Waking up still half drunk with the 3am Off-the-Air show playing certainly had me questioning reality.

CaptDust ,

Shop may be my new favorite internet video. What brilliance

CaptDust ,

Woah, I thought this was a troll with a weird baby goat, I’ll be damned it’s a dog.

CaptDust ,

Counter counterpoint: no one cares what color the bubbles are, except the person reading em. Sounds like an iOS problem 😉

CaptDust ,

They can rip Niagara launcher from my cold dead hands I’m never going back to icon panels

CaptDust ,

The gap/spaced rows are impossible with current technology

CaptDust , (edited )

I just installed KISS to check it out, this is really nice too! I think niagara has a couple more bells and whistles, but it also could be I’m unfamiliar.

  • sliding across app for quick select actions is missing, haven’t figured out how to access these yet (ie to jump directly into composing an email or text)(See edit 2)
  • inline notifications is a big difference standing out for me, I still need to use the notification bar?
  • KISS seems very focused on their search bar which is feeling like a bit more typing. I can tap the circle for an app list but it’s on the far side of the phone? (See edit 1)
  • Niagara tries to be smart enough to bring apps you’ll want to the front homepage, when youll need it. ie connecting to Bluetooth headphones pushes my Spotify to the top. I know KISS doesn’t know my habits, but it seems simpler based on history of launches.
  • niagara relies on more gestures and swipes
  • KISS adding contacts to the home screen is a neat approach, people centric design is good

Overall It’s small details though functionallly they seem very close to me. KISS still great and I love it’s FOSS. They’re doing a solid job of a simple, get stuff done launcher. I don’t want to sound like I’m shilling, but Niagara has a free version you could evaluate for yourself

Edit: hmm after digging through the settings I see KISS supports a gesture for opening the app list - however none of the gestures are functional on my s23. Strange…

Edit2: Ah ha! Quick actions are available from the search, and add themselves to the history. I don’t love having visible duplicates but it’s workable.

CaptDust ,

Around that time WebOS (under Palm) had the Mojo SDK, it was pretty slick.

CaptDust , (edited )

I loved it, it’s a shame that phone failed to find it’s market. Luckily Matias Duarte eventually incorporated the best parts into android. Swipe navigation is almost identical to webos

CaptDust ,

Sleeping in a car isn’t illegal necessarily, but there are increasing popup communities that settle in empty/low traffic lots and live out of their vehicles. Like most of America’s problems, our politicans are sending police forces to “clean up” the effect, instead of trying to solve the cause.

Here’s an article on Vehicle Residency thenation.com/…/homelessness-vehicle-residency-ho…

CaptDust ,

Yeah, check local ordinances this is not legal advice lol

CaptDust ,

NHLC found a 213 percent increase of laws restricting vehicle residency between 2006 and 2019

Really Impressed

I was always on Linux since Varsity but two years ago when I bought a gaming Laptop, it had Windows 11 on and worked great. I thought I would give it a chance and it was great especially for gaming. Luckily a lot of the open source software I was used to were available on windows. I also liked some of the Linux tools like the...

CaptDust , (edited )

So true about Linux improving more rapidly than Windows, it’s incredible how the ecosystem has evolved just in the last few years while windows doddles along investing their dev resources into adding cloud and AI into all they’re offering.

CaptDust , (edited )

Mr google, please add a “search this number online” button for incoming calls. Sometimes I miss a call because I’m slow typer

CaptDust ,

How many hard drives you have in that beast? I see enough ribbon cable to wrap a gift

CaptDust , (edited )

That’s insane I absolutely love it. To put that in perspective, 1999 game storage requirements:

  • GTA 2, 70 MB
  • Quake III Arena, 70 MB
  • SimCity 3000, 230 MB
  • Everquest, 1 GB
CaptDust ,

For bedrock on Linux I’ve had good luck with mcpe launcher, I use it to play on a friends realm

CaptDust ,

I feel it, I prefer Java but I just go where my people are. for what it’s worth MCPE the store is broken, so it’s subjectively a better experience 😂

Believe it or not, inkjets have lower cost per page than lasers. Especially with the newer tank-based printers, but they were already cheaper before those.

I’m struggling with this, what inkjet can I run cheaper than a laser? My real world example, we switched from HP 62xl (480 pages @ $50) to Brother TN660 (2600 pages @ $60) which seemed impossible to beat. We only do black and white, and can burn through a TN660 in a month. Please teach me the ways

CaptDust ,

I’ve seen a few of these posted now, is this whole “movement” just a delusional attempt to absolve themselves of responsibilities using magic legal incantations?

It’s never like “I want to build a community park on my private land but government won’t recognize my independence” it’s always just seeking advice to wiggle out of debts and court hearings… so boring

CaptDust , (edited )

Moustache seems generic for an id, maybe you meant to apply as .moustache? Let’s keep things consistent please

Edit: center also seems unnecessary, in the beta moustaches are already aligned as a child of .facial-hair

Appeals Court Bails Trump Out of Having to Post Massive Fraud Bond (www.rollingstone.com)

Donald Trump was supposed to have to post a $464 million bond by Monday or else the state of New York could begin collecting on the massive civil fraud judgment leveled against him earlier this year. An appeals court bailed him out, blocking collection of the judgment and giving the former president 10 days to post a drastically...

CaptDust ,

Do these judges have to explain their decision? Is there an opinion published somewhere? I’d love to understand what context brought them to this conclusion, I’ve never heard of someone gaining leniency because they couldn’t afford the fine.

There’s an old saying in Tennessee, I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, “don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time”…

CaptDust ,

The whole point of the bond is to prevent pointless appeals in the court (which I have to assume this will be) and, more importantly, serves as a guarantee the defendant will fulfill their obligations and pay at the end of an appeal failure, which … trump is absolutely a risk of not paying. And these judges have now effectively cast the guarantee aside.

CaptDust , (edited )

Sure, and frankly there is nothing preventing trump from appealing. However an appeal is not a green light to ignore or discard the lower court’s decision in the interim. Specifically outlined in the NY Court website

"Filing a Notice of Appeal does not stop or stay the winning side from taking steps to collect or enforce the judgment from the lower court. To put the collection on hold, you may have to ask the court for a stay. You may have to pay an amount of money equal to the judgment amount, called an undertaking, to the court while the appeal is being decided. "

And further to the point, I’d still like to understand what context he’s appealing under that was so compelling. This is a financial case, the facts and accounting figures supporting the judgement will presumably not change, leaving little room for a successful appeal.

Ultimately I’m of the opinion this is a frivolous appeal, and trump will not find the full amount owed at the end of it. By lowering the bond the appeals court has neutered the purpose of securing the bond in the first place, which can only to lead to more delays and difficulties collecting in the future.

CaptDust ,

How you gonna personally attack me like this

CaptDust ,

What bugs me is we have fsr and dlss and all these cutting edge scaling techniques for the 3d game space, but we’re stuck fighting pixels on desktop I guess

CaptDust ,

FSR and DLSS work well if you have a lot of pixels to work with, but it gets drastically worse the fewer you have to work with.

I’m not sure I understand this, I use FSR to scale from 480 to 1080 which I thought was the intent? Render small image and then fill in information to make it closer to native resolution?

But yes it definitely it struggles with text, I wouldn’t expect to apply existing solutions and have it all just work, more like something specialized for text and desktops, using tensor cores or whatever.

I’m ultimately just frustrated we live in a time with tech to generate an image of a potato bug juggling flaming swords, while simultaneously failing to have a good UI experience with HiDPI displays that are becoming more and more common.

CaptDust ,

Oh, true! Perhaps someone could remind russki police of that next time they’re being arrested for holding a blank sheet of paper. Y’all sound dumb as hell.

CaptDust ,

I guess I’ll take comfort knowing it’s still a useful skill for some video games… but even those are becoming increasingly simplified

CaptDust ,

The number of pizza drivers just sending it through 4 way stops was crazy

CaptDust ,

Likely nothing, too much backlog from last sale still. I wish there was a deeper discount on bg3 though

CaptDust ,

Copilot isn’t wrong, they are the best person for the task. 🤷

CaptDust , (edited )

The White House had a budget previously approved by Congress for Pentagon operations, and that budget was not fully expended due to internal cost savings, giving the WH room to reallocate some of it. But this is just a drop in the bucket, Congress needs to act on the larger support package and provide dedicated funds for the effort.

CaptDust , (edited )

Off topic tanget but I’m pretty tired of being told “housing is affordable, just not where YOU want to live” I’m in a midwest state and buying a home anywhere near a city is apparently now a luxury.

All my home owning friends keep telling me to stop throwing away my money on rent, and just move somewhere the nearest grocery store is quick 40 minute drive away. There are USDA loans to help, no city tax, no homeless or crime, if I could only stop clinging to “societal interactions and infrastructure” I could have a great homestead!

What a joke.

CaptDust ,

There are games that won’t get fixed upstream? I’m curious, do you have any examples?

CaptDust ,

Ironically, telemetry information, and it’s a slim host os. At least from a corpo-tech perspective. It’s nicely integrated into azures dashboards, logs and monitoring tools that kind of thing

CaptDust ,

Given that it’s GPL software, though, I expect someone else will pick it up before too long.

But I can think of 2.4 million reasons why it won’t be. So sad.

CaptDust ,

I didn’t migrate and abandoned anything Meta, I view this as an absolute win! Saved me the time hah
