Honestly this isn’t even true anymore. Most major ISPs have implemented dual stack now. The customer doesn’t know or care because it’s done at the CPE for them.

I use a browser extension which tells me if the site I’m at is 6 or 4 or mixed. In 2024 most major sites support V6. A lot of this is due to CDN supporting it natively.

The fact that GitHub doesn’t is quickly becoming the exception.

@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

Do you have an example? Because it works great on openwrt, dd-wrt, pfsense, opnsense, unifi, mikrotik…and then if you’re using the isp equipment it works out of the box.

IPvFoo

There is a chrome version too.

Most of China can’t reach Google so the reporting is off anyway. But in 2023 the govt mandated ipv6 support to all carriers and manufacturers.

Globally it’s at about 47% and growing at about 4% per year. If the rate remains unchanged it’ll be about a decade for >95%.

But the reality of it is, you don’t need global adoption out of the box. You just need majority adoption in the countries you visit, which for me are western countries (north America and Europe) which now have a majority adoption.

If by AI he means LLM or generative AI then sure. But LLM and GenAI are not truly AI in the full sense of the meaning. They’re building blocks to it. A mind is more complex. The singularity still approaches at blistering speed.

Edit: downvotes don’t change the fact that these "AI"s are not intelligent. It’s a misnomer by ppl who want to sell you shit. bigthink.com/…/artificial-general-intelligence-tr…

Ah yeah I see your point I suppose - i didn’t think that’s the line that would hang people up though. By definition of the theory of the singularity is that it will be blisteringly quick - though that’s my word for how quick it will be. The whole concept that the last 50 years equivalent of tech advance will be achieved in the next 25, and so on … to the point that it creates the singularity. I think we will see it in our lifetimes and it’s going to be much closer than people are comfortable with.

It’s not up to Chrome.

@Album@lemmy.ca avatar

They can do it all they want but it won’t work…

If I “opt in” it falls back to non doh immediately because using doh on my network is not up to Chrome.

use-application-dns.net + nxdomain for any known doh provider

I don’t use pihole but doh blocking works great on my network. It should work on a pihole tho it’s pretty basic stuff.

If you can’t resolve the domain you can’t validate the TLS certificate.

I don’t use linux on desktop anymore but that seems like a major step backwards from 10 years ago where your worst worry for running multiple DEs was the bloat from having to run GTK and QT in a mixed environment.

We live in a society that teaches us to value others based on their ability to work. So naturally people think homeless are humans with less value then themselves.

Once you’ve been taught you’re better then others really it’s really all downhill from there.

It doesn’t really surprise me that a self hosted project cant afford to self host it’s own self or be able to find a neutral hosting location.

Has ethernet become illegitimate? A librarian flipped out after spotting me using ethernet

I plugged into ethernet (as wifi w/captive portal does not work for me). I think clearnet worked but I have no interest in that. Egress Tor traffic was blocked and so was VPN. I’m not interested in editing all my scripts and configs to use clearnet, so the library’s internet is useless to me (unless I bother to try a tor...

The reality despite what you or i might do, is that 99% of people don’t carry around an ethernet or hardwire in when there is available wifi.

The library might be public, but it’s still a good idea to communicate your intent or obtain permission prior to using someone else’s network in away they might deem to be unexpected.

“Do you have ethernet or wired internet?” is actually a common library question and the response from whoever works the front desk will likely tell you everything you need to know.

It’s kind of all that matters though. We don’t need to trust her - we need her acceptance of the act for which she is the gatekeeper of. If we don’t have it - trust over what she said is irrelevant since we don’t even have the basic trust over the act.

If the LIBRARIAN doesn’t understand this as a service the library offers - then they don’t offer it - or if you think they’re wrong you need to have an adult conversation that they do and that it should be ok. It’s weird to just assume you can go around sticking your cat5e into other peoples ethernet ports like that.

Then before it add commands for whatever method you update with.

If tiktok can be considered owned by the Chinese gov so can facebook en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRISM theres tons of programs secret and public that shows american tech companies have to obey to the US government demands.

“In 2014, ByteDance established an internal Chinese Communist Party (CCP) committee.[47] The company’s vice president, Zhang Fuping, serves as the company’s CCP Committee Secretary.[48][49]”

This is not a defense of FB or american companies, but rather an indictment of tiktok and an acknowledgement that the degree of CCP involvement in tiktok is not the same as neolib involvement in FB.

Man as someone who named themselves Album because i am a fan of Albums as a piece of art - I do NOT agree. Illmatic is one of the best albums ever made, no challenge - but it’s an odd take to try to frame it as one of the last. Super narrow view. I’m not even entirely convinced that Albums are “dead” though they’re certainly less popular than they once were. It’s also important to remember that LP/Albums were not always popular either.

There was no damage or disruptions so it wasn’t terrible by any means.

It’s definitely a rare event for the north eastern coast of north america.

I’ve never felt an earthquake, sometimes you can feel a 2.0 where we live - a little rumble.

So having a full on 4.8 is noteworthy because it’s rare, novel, and many people did not know what was happening until it had passed. I was worried my house would be damaged from it but i don’t think anything even fell off the shelves.
