DS9 dabbled into politics in ways the other series never did, to the point of a culture conflict, war, genocide, oppression, occupancy, etc.

Probably one of the best games I ever played. I came for the visuals because I finally got an RTX card and stayed for the halflife vibes.

It’s the closest thing I’ve played to OG halflife. You get that similar feel of isolation and heroism, a lot of WTF is going on, some weird entity that is omnipresent, great gun play and action, and is almost entirely indoors. Story is more robust like HL2 evolved the genre.

Mike Johnson Said Same-Sex Marriage Would Lead to People Marrying Their Pets, Wanted to Sentence Abortion Doctors to “Hard Labor” (www.vanityfair.com)

By now you’ve likely heard that Representative Mike Johnson—the congressman Republicans finally elected as the new Speaker of the House after 22 days of chaos—played a significant role in the plot to overturn the 2020 election, a lowlight on his résumé that is obviously deeply concerning for the future of democracy. Also...

yup like this guy former Idaho Senator Larry Craig - staunch opponent of LGBTQ+ rights caught cruising for dick in a public bathroom. To be clear, the problem isn’t that he was doing gay stuff, but that he was a hypocrite about it and was clearly projecting his own insecurities into law.

Gambling is designed to be addictive.

It’s similar to how tobacco ads are not allowed.

I used to be like this. Once you learn to let go the anxiety won’t keep you up. It’s counter intuitive in a cruel way. But that’s life the more enraged you are at the lack of control you inevitably have the farther you are from achieving your desired goals.

If you guys think that’s cool you should see what I can do with a double negative.

In english a double negative is a positive, and is syntactically incorrect.

On modern phones you don’t even have to switch carriers. You can have multiple lines on a single phone and use them at the same time. Ie I can use one phone to text from my work number and my personal number at the same time. Or if you live/work near a country border you can text/call/data from either line at the same time.

Yeah but youre also saying that the bridge of the enterprise was about the size of a container, which i am not sure is accurate.

No Google fit connects into this. It allows apps like Fitbit, Samsung health and Google fit to all have the same data.

So I don’t have to tell my watch how much I weigh, my Fitbit scale tells the Fitbit app and that syncs with google connect so that Samsung health can then pass that to galaxy 5 watch.

Lol ya right?!

The NSDAP was a real socialist party. The Democratic Peoples Republic of North Korea is actually democratic and governed by the people.

The idea of a revolution that leads to a dictatorship of the proletariat is inherently flawed.

Not all Communists are Marxist-Lenninists or Stalinist… But obviously Lenin and Stalin were. Non-ML Communists would agree with you.

I love that they haven’t really fucked with it too much. It’s still the same basic design principles modernized over time. I was worried Lenovo would ruin the line but personally I feel they’re still some of the best machines out there…

These guys have such a crazy social media presence for a shawarma shop. First the toktiks and yt shorts, now this.

ELI5: Legitimate-interest cookies (kbin.social)

So almost every GDPR cookie consent banner out there has a section for "legitimate interest" cookies that they can leave on by default and you will inadvertently accept even if you choose "Reject all" unless you go to the detailed settings and disabled those too....

I set my browser to clear out all cookies for websites unless I’ve whitelisted the website. The whitelist is a very short list of sites I visit that I actually want it to remember that I’ve logged in.

I have all 3rd party cookies blocked.

I’ve lived in both US and Canada.

In Canada, my mother had cancer stayed in a private room for weeks until she died and we only paid for the phone bill for her room and parking. I didn’t get a bill from the hospital at all. No claims on insurance.

I had a baby in 2021 and again my wife had a private room while she recovered from her C section and my infant was in the NICU for a week. No bill from the hospital, no claims on insurance. Just paid for parking.

My wife who is type 1 diabetic had 100% of her needs covered through the ontario healthcare system.

I hear stories that in Ontario you have to wait for non-urgent care due to Premier Doug Ford not paying nurses enough, but I have not seen this personally.

I had work coverage that provided dental, vision, and drug coverage if needed.

In the US, I’m 100% dependent on work provided benefits AND I have to pay $4k a year for those benefits. Wife went for some routine work done and it was covered by work insurance. In ontario it would have been a no cost thing too, no dealing with insurance. We wouldn’t have waited in Ontario, we didn’t wait here either.

There seem to be waits here for specialists. Haven’t had to go to the hospital for anything yet.

Many company boards (of which CEOs sit at) have requirements where they must vest a minimum dollar amount into acquiring company shares. The purpose of this is to ensure they have an interest in the success of the stock and thereby the success of the company.

These same companies will then additionally have blackout periods typically 30 days before the announcement of quarterly earnings where employees are restricted from selling shares.

Not sure what unity’s board rules are but if they are a public company it should be in their investors materials, annual reports, etc

All execs sell their own stock all the time. You’re just aware of it today for one company so it seems like an issue.

Riccitiello has 3 million shares. He sold 2k (.06%) recently and 50k (1.5%) YTD.

You should also be made aware that when you are identified as a director of a company, trades like this are generally automatically scheduled due to MNPI regulations.

Tim Apple sells about a million shares of AAPL every year, while holding roughly 3M continuously. Likely all pre-planned on a schedule.

Do younger people go home earlier now? Or go out less? Is it since COVID?

Someone asked a question about how frequently young people have time to socialize and it made me think about what people do with their evenings. I recently asked my son to go to a concert (free ticket to see a band i know he likes) and he declined because it was an hour away on a weeknight. If we invite our kids or niece/nephew...

Your kids aren’t kids and probably understand the value of a good night’s sleep in order to work the next day?

I generally don’t go out on week nights especially not late because I want to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep or I’m a grumpy unproductive mess. My evenings I’m making dinner, getting ready for the next day, and trying to find an hour or two to relax before doing it all over again

The MA1 specifically was out of stock for a while which lead to high prices on secondary markets. Like most secondary markets when the primary market supply goes up there’s a bit of a lag before the prices fall down again.

The US is massive and each state and city can have wildly varying costs of living and pay.

So it’s a bit hard to compare someone from NYC to someone who lives in Austin Texas.

Generally on the north east coast the cost of living is high due to density and so wages/salaries tend to be higher than somewhere with a lower cost of living. As you move into the mid west and central US things tend to come back down before going up again on the west coast.

There were a few months in my life where I was remembering my dreams and where I was able to start realizing i was dreaming and then I would start flying like Neo in the matrix.

But I don’t really remember my dreams 99/100 nights and it’s been that way most of my life. If you can’t actually experience the dream you can’t even start to lucid dream.

Not trying to prove you or anyone else wrong… that’s a really odd and unnecessarily defensive take.

It’s just a discussion.
